March 22, 2013, airbag light appeared on dash. Dealership service man advised me the light indicated the airbag may not inflate upon crash. I was charged $39.95 for miscellaneous repair to the electrical system but a diagnostic cost would be $89.95 and replacement cost would be approximately $1600. Due to cost, neither was the diagnostic nor the replacement completed. Today, the airbag's alarm beeping and the airbag's dash light continue to operate. Is there any pattern related to airbags in 2006 Lincoln products?

Seat belt alarm started going off. Ford service department said they knew of the condition. The seat belt is not working correctly and in case of an accident the air bag/S will not engage. This is a safety hazard that the Ford company has known about and refuses to fix at their cost. It is about $1,000 and I do not have that kind of money.. this to me doesn't seem any different then GM knowing there is a safety problem but refuses to do a recall. Ford service department claims there hasn't been enough reports of the problem to do a recall. So not having the money to fix this, I'm risking my life and anyone riding in the front seat with me each and every time I drive the car. I would appreciate any and all help on this matter.

Driver was parking Lincoln Town car. Stepped on brake while putting car into park position. Car suddenly accelerated over concrete parking stop and slammed into an entrance to shopping center sign that was in front of the parking space. The car ended up with the front of the car against the sign and the rear wheels of the car up against the parking stop. Also, the rear door locks failed, and passengers were unable to exit the vehicle and the air bag light illuminated. Updated 06/10/14

The contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Town car. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's side seat belt kit needed to be replaced but did not guarantee that it would rectify the failure. The contact mentioned that the passenger's side seat belt kit was previously repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 46,019 and the current mileage was 57,000.

Upon driving the vehicle the air bag light would come on....and the seatbelt alarm would sound over and over again. So I took the car into allan vigil Ford to be checked. They told me my seat belt needed to be replaced, which they said they had to pull the dash out to get to the proper parts. The cost of this repair was $594.27......the light came on again in September 9, 2013...at which time I carried it back to allan vigil and was told it was then the passenger side seatbelt with the same issue..... they repaired it at the cost of $630.88......I feel this should have been handled by Ford, at no cost to me...because upon my further internet searches found this was an issue that has been going on several years with the seatbelts...of the 2006 Lincoln towncars. Also I feel I should have been given more consideration due to the fact that my husband retired from Ford with 35 years service. Please respond.

Air bag warning light came on. Took to dealer and they diagnosed failure of the driver seat belt pretensioner and replaced at a cost of $628. Thirty days later, August 13, air bag warning light came on again. Took to dealer and this time I was told the passenger side seat belt pretensioner was faulty and replaced at a cost of $764. It would seem that a safety requirement such as these should last more than a 100,000 miles?

The contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Town car. The contact stated that when he turns the ignition on the air bag light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised him that the right side seat belt pre tensioner and buckle failed. The vehicle was repaired for that component. Approximately one month later the left side air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they advised him that the left front pre tensioner and buckle failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The current mileage was aproximately 31,500. Updated 1/3/2013

The passive restraint indicator light (shows an airbag and seatbelt), also called seatbelt retractor, came on and remained on with an audible alarm (5 beeps, 5 times) repeating every 30 minutes. The problem diagnosis was for the left front seat belt pretensioner ( driver's side). A Lincoln dealer service employee said the airbag will not work with this problem. At another Lincoln dealership I was told many 2006 towncars had the same problem. It started beeping at 122,000 miles and I was not involved in a crash. A Ford employee told me last year's supplier went out of business, so they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. The price went from $150 for the pretensioner to $360 for the kit (from the new manufacturer), which is the only thing you can get to fix the problem, even though you don't need a new seat belt, buckle, etc. Because of the additional installation costs ($200 to $330), many people may not be able to afford the fix, putting their lives at risk as well as their passenger's.

The passive restraint indicator light (shows an airbag and seatbelt), also called seatbelt retractor, came on and remained on with an audible alarm (5 beeps, 5 times) repeating every 30 minutes. The problem diagnosis was for the right front seat belt pretensioner (passenger side). A Lincoln dealer service employee said the airbag will not work with this problem. At another Lincoln dealership I was told many 2006 towncars had the same problem, but on the driver" side, mine is on the passenger. The problem started around 114,000 miles, my car is now about 117,000 miles. And I was not involved in a crash. A Ford employee told me last year"S supplier went out of business, so they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. The price went from $150 for the pretensioner to $360 for the kit (from the new manufacturer), the only thing you can get to fix the problem, even though you don"T need a new seat belt, buckle, etc". because of the additional installation costs ($200 to $330), many people may not be able to afford the fix. In my situation, neither Lincoln, nor Ford were able to get my part. It is not because my part was the wrong number, it is because the part in the box was the wrong part. We are supposed to get number five, I believe, tomorrow, 5/15/12.

The problem diagnosis was the left front seat belt tensioner. A Lincoln dealer service employee said "the air bag will not work with this problem". at another Lincoln dealership a service employee mentioned "this has been a real nightmare", many are having this same problem. I hear they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. Because of the part and installation cost, perhaps many people may not be able to afford the fix, therefore leaving them in a dangerous situation.

The passive restraint indicator light came on and remained on with an audible alarm repeating 5 times for 5 cycles, and then repeating every 15 minutes or so. I took my 2006 Lincoln Town car to a Lincoln authorized repair station. Parts were back ordered and, after approximately 3 weeks, the vehicle was repaired and the indicator light and alarm functioned properly. This occurred in early 2010 with approximately 46,000 miles on the vehicle and was repaired under 5/50,000 mile safety device warranty. The problem repeated in July, 2010 and the vehicle was returned to the same dealer for repair. The vehicle was still under warranty with mileage being 49386. Parts were back ordered. As of 10-5-2010, the parts have not been received and the dealer stated that the supplier to Ford Motor Company was out of business and the needed parts were unavailable. The dealer also stated that the parts were only available from Ford Motor Co. Dealer stated that seat belt are functioning and he thinks the air bag will function. I am continuing to drive the vehicle on limited basis. Updated IVOQ 12/16/10

The contact owns a 2006 Lincoln Town car. While driving approximately 15-20 mph on an icy road, the vehicle began sliding sideways. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked trailer on the shoulder of the road. The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle sustained major damage to the passenger side doors, roof, and dashboard. The passenger side windows, windshield, and side view mirror were also damaged. The contact sustained major injuries due to broken glass that was embedded in his scalp, in addition to a concussion. He was transported to a hospital because he was unconscious. There were no passengers in the parked vehicle and he was the only passenger in his vehicle. A police report was filed. The manufacturer stated that they would be in contact with him. The dealer was not notified. The current and failure mileages were 36,000. Updated 02-26-09 the vehicle was totaled. Updated 02/26/09.
