Overdrive light flashed. Took vehicle to dealer, and they stated that transmission failed.

Transmission is defective, transmission will make a clunking sound when trying to accelerate, and when on highway if the driver speeds up, vehicle will start jerking. Dealer informed consumer at the time vehicle was still under warranty that the problem couls not be duplicated, consumer tried to move the gear from park it would not move.

After repeated attempts to get the transmission checked it finally failed. Every previous attempt resulted in no problems diagnosed. It was always a sensor or a connector. The problem with the O/D light was brought to the attention of the dealer and everytime the car came back in two to three days the light would come back on. The problems started in the summer of 2001 and the service was in August. Now the transmission is gone and needs to be replaced after being diagnosed O.K.. in 3 1/2 months a perfectly good transmission goes bad?

Without warning the car started driving very sluggish in 1st gear (not going any higher than 5 M.P.H.), but would drive normal in all other gears. I took it to the shop immediately (same day), and they said that I needed a new transmission (rebuilt) and quoted me $2,300. I took it from the dealer the next day to take it to another trans shop for quote, & after 20 miles it wouldn't drive in any gear except reverse. Aamco quoted me >$2,000 + said it may be the computer box also. This car is too new to have a transmission problem, something needs to be done. Of course the dealer is not willing to pay because it's no longer under warranty. This seems to be an ongoing problem with this car, when will something be done about it"????????????"

I had many problems with this 626, Mazda from the day I drove it off the lot and I tried to get the company to take it back and they would give me lots of excuses and were not helpful. In the end I was told the air flow sensor was gone & I paid $300 for repairs. 2 days later the car started having the same problem and had it towed in and the transmission was gone, catalytic converter needed replacing again and another part. I asked for a refund on the mass air flow sensor telling them that the O/D light had been coming on and I think that was the problem, but would not refund me for the cost. They then wanted $6000 for it all and I told them, I have replaced so many parts on this car and tried to get you to take it back and they refused. I also asked if they would give me a credit towards another vehicle, since I was sold a lemon. They refused. I had to turn the car back in to the loan company. I could not afford to pay $6000 for repairs and pay $350 monthly. I was ahead on my payments too. Turned it in to the loan company and now my credit has been affected. Because of all the costly repairs that I had to do and make payments along with it all. I want some help and restiution in this situation.

I have a 1996 Mazda 626 that is currently having transmission problems. This is now the second time I am about to have to have the transmission rebuilt. The first time was when I first got the car at 56,000 miles. I then paid for the repair, which cost me about $1600 at a transmission shop. Six months later, and after warranty, my transmission is what the mechanic would like to call "slipping" in second and third gear. This is now a concern to me, since my brother has the same car, and is now having to get his the same service done. I once went into a store, and a guy who had a Mazda 626 came up to me and said nice car, have you got the transmission rebuilt yet. And also, my best friend who thought it would be cute if we got the same car, about a month ago was having transmission problems, and had to return the car, because it was such an expensive repair, and her car did not come with a warranty. I really don't believe that the car has had any other problems beside this transmission issue, and maybe it should have been recalled. It is really costly, and for me to have to pay for another repair, I don't think that I will be able to afford it. Please help me get started in trying to get this problem resolved. I have tried before to send them a complaint, but could not find any mailing information. I then decided to look deeper into the matter, and came across your web page, which is totally helpful. Purchase auto used with less 48,255 miles on it on 5/1/98. On 5/22/98 the check engine light along with the SRS light began burning intermittently. Part was ordered on 5/22/98 and replaced on 6/6/98. Problem still existed and was worked on again 6/10/98. Didn't repair problem and so it was again worked on 6/18/98. Dealer's statement is the car was driven over 100 miles and problem couldn't be found. Something must have repaired it as they stopped burning. On 1/13/99 engine light began again along with the od light. At this time auto was returned to dealer who replaced the transmission. Luckily I purchased a warranty at purchase of auto. At this writing the engine light has begain to illuminate again and my wife state transmissions is slow to shift. I am beginning to think that this particular year Mazda was one which would hurt Mazda's reputation after owning 2 Mazda 626S and 3 Mazda pickups. I have the statements from dealer where they replaced the computer, sensors, modules, and controls.the auto stock number at andy jones was 8992 @ dealer# 34018 sold May 1,1998.
