626 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 139,000 miles
1998 madza 626 transmission failure while entering interstate with vehicles traveling at 60+ mph. Before purchasing this vehicle, I did my research. I found that transmission failure was a know problem in Mazda but the car salesman assured me that the transmission problem existed only in the model previous to the 1998 which I was interested in. She stated that after the design of the emblem was changed, this problem as well had been corrected. This was a lie. I was entering interstate ongoing a ramp when all of a sudden my car stopped pulling and all I could see was car rushing towards my rear end and steering to avoid hitting my rapidly slowing vehicle. I called the lot where I purchased the vehicle but nothing could be done.

The transmission performed poorly. Been in the repair shop twice, the first time because it was leaking transmission fluid and jerking when accelerating past first gear. Had around 40,000 miles. Second time it had 54,000 miles for the exact same thing, and currently, the third time the vehicle was still leaking fluid and it will not go forward but will only going backwards. The first time was around 2001.

Well this is the second time I have had to replace my transmission due to poor design. This is a dangerous problem and very costly. Mazda says there is nothing wrong with there transmissions goin out every year or two. Well I am upset that neither the government nor Mazda has done anything about it? just glad I will never have this problem again.
