While driving, Low Engine Oil light illuminated. Vehicle has 9968 miles at time of incident and had one oil change at 5873 miles. So in the span of 4095 miles, engine had burned enough oil that none was showing on dipstick at time of incident. Vehicle was taken to dealership where it was confirmed that there were no leaks and the engine was consuming oil at a rapid rate. Mazda has issued a bulletin to dealerships concerning this issue, so the company is aware a problem exists with this engine. Had the oil level decreased to a low enough level, the engine could have feasibly failed, which could have resulted in a dangerous situation if it happened on the highway or in heavy traffic. Mazda currently has no fix and encourages that oil be added when necessary. Given the unpredictable frequency of the oil consumption, this does not feel like a safe solution, putting the onus entirely on the owner.

At about 3,605 miles, I received a low engine oil warning. The car is only 4 months old. When i took the car to the dealer, apparently there is a TSB that was issued in October 2021 about the problem. I bought the car in November was not advised of this issue. At this time, it appears at this time Mazda is unable to determine the root cause. It appears that I am to take the vehicle to the dealer every time I have this experience. I am worried about the potential impact and the lifespan of the engine.

The contact leased a 2021 Mazda CX-30. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to start up after multiple attempts with several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that an unauthorized independent tow company towed the vehicle to a dealer two hours away from her home and that the vehicle was stolen from the dealer's lot. A police report was filed. The contact then stated that the vehicle was recovered and returned to the same dealer. The battery was replaced, and the vehicle was towed to an auto body shop to repair the damage to the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 2,100. The VIN was not available.
