Dashboard on Mazda is melting, leaving the surface sticky and giving off a chemical odor. The sticky surface is shiny causing a bright reflection in the windshield. Not only is this unsightly, but it could be hazardous if vision is compromised.

I love this car and would like to purchase another Mazda in the future for sure, but I will not if this dash is not replaced. My dealer claims they have never heard of it, which I doubt since I Googled a bunch instantly and there are class action suits. I want them to replace it at no cost.

Dash is melted and sticky above steering wheel and continues to melt. I have researched the problem and found several Class Action Lawsuits against Mazda. I would just like to have it fixed or replaced.

"My dashboard in my vehicle is melting. It is very aggravating. It distracts my driving, as the sunlight reflects off the dashboard and interferes with the vision. Mazda needs to repair the damage on their dime not mine as I have done nothing to prompt the dashboard to melt."

Have a 2010 Mazda 3 and my dash is melting into a shiny black tar like substance and the glare is reflecting onto my windshield blocking my view of traffic I called Mazda they said they have no complaints about this issue. I called dealership they said" o well that happens to Mazda dashboards, they melt so it's gonna cost around 1,000 dollars to fix it." Like, o well we know they melt but there's nothing we can do. Pay to have your defected part replaced.

My dash is melting too, and is beginning to crack. I have never used anything that would have caused this. Now I can't even clean it, the cloth would just stick to the goo. It's gross and bugs get stuck there. Guess that's the only positive.
Mazda should replace it.

My mazda 3 dashboard just melted, I have definitely not put any chemicals on it, its just poor quality of the materials. Heard about a class action suit, but did not know what happened with that. Anyone that knows anything please let me know.

Dashboard continues to melt 4 years later, started on the summer in the Southeast when I purchased the vehicle.
I didn't realize this was a problem other people were having until I visited this site.
I also didn't realize this could be some defect in manufacturing. Apparently a class-action lawsuit was filed just yesterday arguing that this poses a safety hazard. I would have to agree that this causes significant glare in the wrong light.
I do not know how to correct it.

My dashboard of Mazda3 2010 has been melting and continues to melt. I have taking to dealer several times but they don't want to assume charges claiming I did it when I haven't. ..They tell me for 700 dollars they can fix it. It's so unfair when I paid for a car that in 4 years starts to melt inside. It's also dangerous when driving because the glare gets in your way. I believe its a safety hazard to drivers..
- Jazmin C., North Miami, FL, US
The problem was reported to the Mazda dealer who elevated it to Mazda but they said there must be some sort of chemical spill over the dash. This is false, nothing like this ever happened and the dash deformation was direct result of sunshine which shows bad material used by Mazda.

When my dash first started "melting"i was still covered under my 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. When I took it to the dealer I purchased it from the device manager refused to repair/replace the dash under the warranty. Let alone agree it was defective.the only thing he would do is charge me $150 to replace it.
Update from Apr 5, 2016: Shortly after posting this i found out that the dealership would now take pics and send them in to have the dash replaced. It was about a week later that they did the replacement. (which is nice to have a non melted dash again) the down side was they forced me to pay $270 for the labor, the labor to fix a defect of their own. Has anyone else had to pay this fee too? So now i have a new dash $270 less and now I suddenly have a vent actuator problem, that was conveniently forgot to tell me about when the dash was apart.( This issue didn't exist prior to the dash replacement.
Love my Mazada 3 HATE HATE the service team at my dealership
