Takata recall on February 26, 2018, I received a recall letter from Mercedes Benz usa ("Mercedes") with respect to a defect on the "takata" airbags, noting that "a passenger-side inflation explosion during deployment could result in sharp metal fragments striking the front passenger or other occupants, possibly causing injury or death." The letter also notes that replacement parts are not yet available for my vehicle. I called Mercedes to better understand why, if I am driving a car that is deemed to be unsafe and per the above, could cause injury or death, a replacement part is not available. I was told that Mercedes sent the letter with the verbiage as it appeared from takata, that many other manufacturers were impacted by this recall, and that Mercedes was "low on the list" for replacements. I do not understand how or why I should be expected to continue to drive a car with my family in it that is deemed to be unsafe. I further do not understand why Mercedes is not taking any action to rectify this situation. Mercedes determined that both they and you (as the regulator) determined that the car is in fact safe, yet the letter I was provided states otherwise. Please explain how this is possible.

The contact owns a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C300. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V627000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair as the recall notice was received over two months ago. The dealer (world wide motors Inc, 3900 E 96th St, indianapolis, in 46240) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was contacted several times and was unable to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact recently received a postcard from tk holdings, alerting her that they filed for bankruptcy. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

On January 17, 2018, tk holdings Inc. Mailed me an important notice for ownersof vehicles with takata airbag inflators. The card directed me to the web site www.airbagrecall.com, I followed the directions and entered the VIN for my vehicle. The site identified it to be under the recall notice then directed me to contact a number for the local Mercedes dealership. When I contacted Mercedes Benz of orlando they informed me that the vehicle is not under recall. They in turn forwarded my call to a central Mercedes Benz telephone number, and they said the same thing (my vehicle does not have the takata recall)

I was driving down the road at 15mph and the airbag in the drivers steering wheel deployed for no reason. Mercedes declines to complete an inspection and offered to replace and return the vehicle to me. I am concerned with the decision to not complete an inspection due to the severe nature of the situation. I was burned and bruised on my left arm and swerved into the other lane due to the shock of the airbag deployment. I am not comfortable driving the vehicle and I do not feel that it is safe.

Passenger airbags enabled then disabled just randomly while driving with an adult passenger sitting with the seat belt clicked in the front passenger seat. A airbag light come on indicating that the passenger air bag is off then after few miles suddenly a massage in the dashboard saying "airbag now enabled please see driver manual" I took the car to mb service, they couldn't find any code for problems. They ask me to videotape the messages and the lights when come on. I just did today. Will see what they will do with it. It's sound really dangerous to drive with passenger with his airbag disabled. Happen to me 5-6 times, the car has 4000 mile only !!

The 'passenger airbag disabled' message comes on even if when there's an adult passenger in the front seat. I brought it to the dealer several weeks ago and am using a loaner, another 2013 C300, the message just appeared in the loaner as well, loaner has less than 1,000 miles the message appears randomly whether parked or moving. The dealer cannot guarantee that the airbag will deploy or not. The part, which is manufactured in germany, is on back order until further notice.
