The air bag warning light comes on, blinks the code 34 two times then stays on. After researching I find that numerous 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis have had the same problem. This is something that needs to be fixed by Ford. I have had more problems with this model than I have ever had with any other car. I have had to replace the A/C - heating system, front light system (after tons of complaints by other people Ford finally recalled and fixed the problem. Why do you wait? if one person complains, much less numerous others it should be fixed by Ford due to faulty parts. Of course now I will have to have it fixed and it is expensive! I use to have all the faith in the world in Ford but no more. You buy parts not made in America and this is the result and of course you don't put the parts where they can be easily accessible so the owner can repair it themselves and the dealerships charge astronomical fees to fix it. Wonder how long before Ford acknowledges and recalls or at least fixes the problem when someone takes in the car.

Both air bag lights have stayed lighted four months apart. Replacement was a complete (using Ford Motor Co parts) unit on driver-side in May 2014. Now(Sept 9,2014) the passenger side unit needs replacement at a cost of $700 for each side. The state of Virginia inspection process requires replacement for the vehicle to pass. I'm told the air bag is in-operative when the light is on this a safety issue.

Air bag light illuminated. Dealer said the passenger side seat belt pretensioner needed to be replaced at a cost of 500.00+. he mentioned that this was a chronic problem with 2005 Grand Marquis vehicles. He also mentioned that when the air bag light was illuminated and that the air bag system would not function. I also did an internet search and found that this is indeed a chronic problem with Ford vehicles in general for 2005 model vehicles. I hope to see this issue addressed by a recall as I cannot afford to pay to have it repaired. This vehicle was purchased new and has 32416 miles and has never been involved in an accident.

My 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis airbag light is on. Dealership claims the airbags will not deploy due to a malfunctioning seatbelt pretensioner. Repair/replacement will cost $1800 to do both passenger and driver. Car only has 29,250 miles on it. I have found where this seems to be an ongoing problem with this model. Also, saw where this issue has caused airbags not to deploy in a collision. Some have reported the problem reoccurring after repair. This is a bad design by Mercury and a huge safety concern that should have been issued a recall!

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated upon starting the ignition, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front passenger's side seat belt pre-tensioner was replaced. The failure recurred one year later, which would require the front driver's side seat pre-tensioner to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect and they informed the contact that the steering wheel air bag may not deploy sufficiently in the event of a crash unless the repair was performed. The approximate failure mileage was 94,300....updated 11-12-13 the consumer stated the function of the seat belt was not impaired by the failure of the pre-tensioner. Only the function of the air bag was impaired. However, to replace the pre-tensioner, the entire seat belt needed to be replaced, which was functioning.

The seat belt warning air bag light came on and won't go off. It happen back in Aug 2011 at 40,598 miles now two years later at 53,631 same probelm again. I filed a complaint then and now once again, when are you people going to make Ford fix these cars right. If you look at all the complaints filed concerning the seat belt probelm it would seem to me that you are doing absoulety nothing except letting these car manufactures give us consumer a bunch of bs and charge us and arm and leg to fix some thing that shouldn't be failing that soon. I mean come on in 13,000 miles and it fails again. It will cost me another $450 to fix the same probelm and if I don't the air bag system will not work so where does that leave me"?"

  • 37,700 miles
I own a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis gs original owner with 37,700 miles on the odometer. A week ago my drivers side air bag warning light came on when I started the car and it remains on while driving. After checking with one of my mechanics, I was told the air bag will not deploy if I am in a front end collision. I think this is the same problem others 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis' have had with the drivers side seat belt pre-tensioner, and think it will needs to be replaced. I will be contacting my Lincoln(formerly Mercury) dealership on bell road in phoenix, AZ, to take it in for repairs. While I have never had a accident with the car, I can't take the chance that me or my wife will not have the air bag deploy in the case of a front end collision. I purchased the auto in December, 2004, and am the original owner with only 37,700 miles on the car. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

  • 127,084 miles
I own a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The air bag warning light illuminated once the engine was started and remained on. The vehicle was taken to the local Ford dealer service department for diagnosis and I was informed that the driver's side seatbelt pretensioner would need to be replaced at a cost of $501 in addition to the $103 charged for diagnosis. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. I will inform the manufacturer. I observe from other websites/reports what I believe may be a pattern of premature failure of Grand Marquis seatbelt pretensioners especially in the 2005 model year. The failure mileage was 127,084 and the current mileage was 127,201.
