- Beaumont, TX, USA
Light for air bag came on with warning sound. Had local garage fix with new parts from Ford dealer. This morning upon backing out of garage at approximately 70,000. Miles same problem of light and sound. Supposed to take it to same garage to diagnose tomorrow. It cost me, a 78 yr. Widow, $561.72 to replace this in Aug. Of 2013. I am not going to spend another cent on this problem. What in the world has happened to air bag installation?

Air bag light on the dash comes on and stay on while driving.
- Columbia, SC, USA
Started car to go to work idling in drive way and I got an air bag light and alarm going off, turned car off and restarted and same thing. Was scared to drive until I talked to mechanic at local dealership. He said the problem is in the seat belt assembly and would have to be replaced.parts about 260 dollars plus labor probably another 200 dollars. Researching air bag light issues for Grand Marquis for fixes for my problem I discovered there are several other owners of same model with same issue. Was wondering if others has reported and if so why has there not been a recall. I love my car otherwise and poor single father raising my children on my own and cannot afford these repairs plus driving a car that the air bags possible wont work on lord forbid we were in an accident.

Had to replace both passenger and driver side seat belt assemblies due to defective airbag sensors within two months of each other with less than 14000 andlimited use of passenger side belt. Per web inquiries this is a common problem. As it is a safety issue as airbags won't deploy and it is quite common, how come a recall and replacement has not been ordered? it has cost me in excess of $1100 for their defective parts.
- Irmo, SC, USA
While leaving my home I noticed the amber airbag lamp on the dashboard had remained illuminated; the warning chime also sounded periodically. Upon taking the vehicle to a dealership that day I was told the driver's side seatbelt and buckle had to be replaced, and that the airbag would not deploy until the necessary repairs were made. Since that time I have driven without having the repair done because of the cost (approximately $800). I have done considerable research on the internet about this problem and found numerous instances of this problem occurring on the Mercury product line, primarily from repair forums, advice websites, etc. My search was by no means all inclusive, but I feel it representative of a systemic problem with, at least, the Mercury product line, and may extend to other Ford products. It certainly represents a serious safety issue concerning the use of airbags for passengers and driver. Thank you in advance for your consideration. I was driving along and the dashboard "front airbag light" came on and a beeping sound began. Since my vehicle is a Mercury and there are no Mercury dealers now, I called the nearest Ford dealership. They say that when the light is flashing it means my airbag is not working. If I bring the vehicle in, they will diagnose it for $49 and then tell me how much it will cost to fix it. They said there is no recall on this issue. I checked the internet and found several automotive forums that discuss this issue. Apparently it has been a topic of discussion since at least 2008. I'm concerned for my safety and will make arrangements to have the situation accessed and then fixed. However in today's economy, many people will just let the light continue to be lit and do nothing. This means that their airbags will be inoperable. I think either NHTSA or Ford should consider a recall on this.
