Car has been under takata airbag recall since July. It is October. Ford seems to be very nonchalant about fixing a problem which could, "cause serious injury or death." Is this also the position of the NHTSA?

Takata recall, I received notice for safety recall 16S26 from Ford Motor Company for my 07 Mercury Milan, I contacted my dealership and Ford directly by phone to receive a rental since my car is not safe to drive myself, my 10 year old step son and 1month old daughter. This car is my primary vehicle and I'm not continuing to drive it due to risk of injury or death to my family, which I was told by [xxx] at Ford Motor Co that its safe to drive, but this recall notice would not have come was the vehicle "safe" for my family to drive in. I have contacted my local news wnep 16 and the daily item, also tried my progressive insurance co and they all tell me Ford should be covering a safe vehicle for me till the fix takes place, which as advised by [xxx] at Ford could be awhile till the parts and letter for service are ready. Please if anyone could help me I would appreciate it, I don't want to risk my family's life to drive my car and with an infant I am in need of my car. My name is [xxx] and can be reached by phone at [xxx], thank you. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Passenger airbag warning light illuminated. Took car to Ford dealership who diagnosed it as a sensor problem, and if not repaired could prevent the airbag from deploying. I have owned many cars and this is the first time, I've ever had a problem like this. After researching online, I saw there were numerous complaints for the same problem. Is the NHTSA aware of these safety hazards and should a recall be implemented?
