On 11/27/1998, I took my car to get a regular oil change, the mechanic found that the fuel tank was leaking fuel. I then took the car to a Lincoln Mercury dealership that day. The service manager told me that the "seam" in the tank could be cracked, and proceeded to tell me that the need to investigate it to see what the problem was. On 11/30/1998, I was told that the fuel tank was leaking and it needed to be replaced. On 12/01/1998 I was told that they determined that in fact the seam was leaking on the tank and that they would replace it. This is basically the same issue that happened a few years ago with the Ford escort, but it was recalled. I spoke to a Ford customer rep., and she said that because it was a Ford recall, not Mercury, there was nothing that could be done. This is now costing me at least $500 for the repairs as well as approx $40 per day for rental car fees and I got the rental car on 11/28/1998. Is there anything that I can do regarding this matter.
