Was driving car downtown at a speed on average of 15 mph. Trip only lasted 15 minutes when I parked and noticed smoke coming from my hood. Smoke quickly escalated into a fire. Called 911 to have fire trucks out. Grabbed a fire extinguisher from a nearby business to try to put out the flames, but was unable to even while spraying directly at the flames. Firemen had to pry open the hood to get to the engine to put out the fire. Car engine was totaled.

While driving in my neighborhood I noticed a burning smell and a little smoke coming from under the hood. I pulled into my garage and popped the hood to find the oil feed line to the turbo had leaked oil all over the turbo and was burning off. I know the problem is a faulty line that uses rubber washers and over time heat from the turbo causes them to fail. In 2010 MINIput in a heat shield to protect the line, acknowledging the problem. This needs to be addressed properly, to many pre 2010 Cooper S are having this problem.

I have been a MINICooper owner since 2007 and loved my MINIIt was a 6 speed automatic and even though it had approx. 127K miles, it drove great and I had never experienced any problems with it in the six years I owned it. In July 2013, I was driving down a highway at 65mph and heard a very faint percolating sound coming from inside the dash. The car was running fine and there were no warning lights so I kept driving because I was in a deserted area at night. Approximately two minutes later, I saw a flame outside my right passenger side window. I immediately stopped the car and saw there were flames coming from behind the passenger tire of the vehicle and from under the hood. I called 911 but within minutes, the entire hood and front seats of the car were in flames. By the time the fire department arrived, the car was a completely engulfed by the fire. Nothing from inside the vehicle could be recovered. Other than the faint percolating sound and a slight odor immediately before I saw the flames, there was no warning. The fire department ruled the fire an undetermined mechanical cause and said it started on the right passenger side of the engine compartment.

One headlight went out. I tried to replace it, but the plug socket had a short in it. The bulb, socket, and wiring had to be replaced. 6 months later the other lamp fried the socket. The approximate cost of repair is about 300 per headlight.

I have had previous issues with the panoramic sunroof, I had to get it replaced. Then I had issues with the chain and chain tensioner and had to get that replaced too. Now the steering has failed on me, I can't start the car or even move the steering wheel. My steering is locked now; I had the car running, everything seemed to run fine and the steering worked fine. Once I shut the car off I couldn't start the car back up and my steering locked up. I had to get my car towed home. I wish BMW would do some kind of a recall on this car so we wouldn't have to pay so much money out of our own pockets!

Was able to put out the fire with out too much damage and disconnected the battery to eliminate power to the troubled area.car is being towed to MINIcooper of peabody Massachusetts.

Upon returning home and parking my MINIin the garage I smelled somthing strange. My wife and I unloaded groceries from the car I noticed smoke from the hood of the car. We quickly rolled the car out of the garage and opened the hood, I noticed the connection on top of the aux water pump burning. The fire subsided on its own.

My mint condition 2007 MINICooper S was destroyed by fire on 3/31/11. I had just driven it 4.5 miles to work, parked it, when approximately 12-15 minutes later I was alerted by the company security department that my car was on fire. The township police and fire department were already on the scene putting out the blaze. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical and started in the engine. My pristine car without a scratch or dent on it, had only been driven 15,000 miles -- and it was destroyed. The car had been faithfully maintained and I believed it to be in perfect running condition. Fortunately no one was hurt and no other cars were damaged. But what if this would have happened when the car was parked in my garage" I was shocked to read online that other owners have shared similar experiences and that you can find numerous video clips on you-tube showing minis on fire. What is BMW doing about this" updated 08/17/11 updated 02/02/2012

I own a 2007 MINICooper with factory installed gps. When my brake sensor activated my gps stopped working. The dealer says the entire system must be replaced at a cost of $2,500. Is anyone aware of electrical defects in the MINIsystem that would cause this problem?
