As many others have described; anti-lock brakes engaged in light snowy conditions. Pedal firmness was lost. Initially brakes would grab when pedal pushed, then loss of brake pressure until pedal was pushed all the way down to floor (hissing sound). Some brake pressure could be restored by tapping brake as brakes were applied, but this application was not always consistent. Took car to national chain brake/tire shop. They looked at car and determined that calipers were hung up, so adjusted and lubricated calipers. This did not fix problem so brake lines were bled, still did not fix problem. Shop determined that they needed Mitsubishi proprietary diagnostic equipment to repair (refunded money for failed repair). Recommended car be returned to dealer for repairs. Dealer had car for two weeks (waiting for parts) determined that master cylinder had internal seal failure brake fluid leaked into booster, destroying booster, also showed internal valve damage to brake module which required replacement. Repairs cost almost $2,000 for a car with 52,000 miles! hydraulic system failed before brake pads needed to be replaced! Mitsubishi does not feel that this repair is unusual so has no relief program for costs. It seems that brakes that fail while driving would be something the government and the manufacturer should be concerned about. When will you force a recall on these items" does someone have to die first" hope I'm not the one.

Dear representative serious anti lock hydraulic brake failure. When I had to brake the other day I had low brake pressure and brake pedal almost went to the floor when I had to come a stop. This is a serious safety item. I had my the car towed to the dealer. The service department determined the ABS(antilock brake) system is failing. ABS part is not in stock and the part won't arrive in next few days. As I search on the web, other consumers with the same model car(Eclipse 2006-2008) are experiencing the same issue. The government need to get involved before someone get killed. This is a manufacturer defect under mvss. There should be a recall!!! another concern, I have another Eclipse. 07 that can get the same issue. We need a recall so the consumer can be safe and will not have to pay ~$650.

I hit some ice and the anti lock brakes made a sound and the brakes went to the floor and now the brakes are spongy. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I found a web site called club G forum and there were dozens of other Eclipse owners all experiencing the same problem as me. This is definitely a major defect and needs to be recalled before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.

I have been having problems with the braking system for the last 2 years. When I accelerate the brake light comes on. I checked fluid and everything. I drove it again and had to make not even a sudden stop and the pedal went to the floor board and almost did not stop.I have read all over that there are problems with the same thing on this same model car. Not sure why there is no recall on it yet. I have two small young children and am afraid I one day will not be able to stop. When you press on the brakes there is an air or whistle sound coming from them. The pads and rotors are good and the car is a 2008 with 88,000 miles on it. It has never been hard driven. Not sure what the issue is and if the power brake booster is $139 plus fright charge from out of state and that may or may not be the problem.

The brakes got spongy one day after I braked hard, there was a whistle on release and then were far less efficient. Sometime I had to push the pedal to the floor to stop. The pedal started to engage then didn't seem to work at all until I was almost at the floor. I had the master cylinder replaced and breaks tested multiple times as well as brakes bled and nothing helped. I've had multiple mechanics change out parts and look at it but it still continues to require a lot of extra stopping time and distance. It's very hard to stop in time if you have to stop short.

During a moment when I had to hit my brakes hard as another vehicle cut me off my brakes lost full pressure. Today my brakes continue to feel unsafe and I have read that the ABS system in these cars is bad. Same loss of brake pressure and activation happens when I hit a bump on the road.

Upon applying my brakes to slow down the pedal went to the floor and a hissing noise coming from the pedal area. Had done this before and then it was ok. Started doing it again and had the brakes changed. Was fine for a while then started again. Had ase mechanic inspect master cylinder, bleed brakes and brake booster. Still all the same. I know they recalled lancer for the same issues. And also 2005-2207- Eclipse. They all have the same issue. Cannot allow my daughter to drive this car due to the problem.

I noticed that as I press the brake peddle down and let off there is a whistle sound as the brake peddle is coming back up. This issue is continuing to get worse.the more that I drive the car, the less efficient my brakes are working to actually stop the car. Multiple mechanics have looked under the hood and said it could be either the master brake cylinder or the ABS control which is very uncommon for a car with such low miles."??"

As I was driving down a congested road, I tried to come to a stop and the peddle went all the way down to the floorboard. I tried pulling the emergency brake and that didn't work either. At that point I avoided a collision by going on the median and down shifted. The car, luckily, is a 5 speed. My husband replaced the brake pads a month or so before that, so he checked to be sure the lines were bled correctly. Which they were. This was the first instance. Today was the scariest. It was raining and I was going 45 in the middle lane. The car in front of me stopped suddenly and I tried, too. The front end kind of hopped up a few times as I tried to apply the brakes and E brake. Again, by the grace of god, I was far enough away that I didn't hit him. Being wary after the first incident, I stay far back from other cars. Every time this happens, I hear a whining sound when the peddle is pumped and until the peddle comes back all the way up. This year should be recalled, too. Tallahassee has no dealership, so my closet option is about an hour and a half away.

When braking to stop, the brake pedal experienced a longer than normal pedal stroke resulting in a rear end collision. It is an intermittent problem. The 2006 Eclipse has a recall for this exact problem. 2007-2008 Eclipses should also be recalled to fix this potential problem. There are several online posts describing this problem on a 2008 Eclipse.
