  • 73,000 miles
My transmission failed and it only has 70000 miles on it, I know I'm not the only one this has happened to. I think everyone needs to be reimbursed or some form of compensation for this problem.

  • 50,000 miles
My transmission stopped working in the middle of a busy intersection with my grand children in the car. Construction vehicles were speeding by on either side and I was helpless. I was told by my dealer that the warranty was up by three months even though my 2013 Nissan Altima had only 50,000 miles on it. The safety factor should speak for itself. On the web there are hundreds upon hundreds of complaints about this issue especially the 2013 Nissan Altima. I believe it's time to recall this automobile before someone gets seriously hurt. Thank you for your time and consideration concerning this matter.

It started with a whirling when descending an incline. Since I had the recall work completed, I assumed this sound was normal. I have never driven or been a passenger in a Nissan. Exactly 1,383 miles after my warranty and 13 months and 2 days after the recall work the car began to shudder and cut off at intersections. This is extremely dangerous in atlanta and its famous spaghetti junction. The first time I assumed it was a fluke. The 2nd time I wanted to blame it on bad gas. I had a diagnostic done, however, there were no codes. A technician drove it and said it felt like it was searching, but did not shut off. He told me to pop it in neutral when approaching a light or slow down. I drove to an aamco where it shuddered and shut off in their lot. Five hours later aamco was unable to duplicate the shut off and found no codes. I took it to a different Nissan dealer than the one that performed the recall work. They got no codes, but they were willing to sell me a battery, cables and an idle reboot for $360! the Nissan manager picked me up as a curtsey and once I told him the problems, he immediately said that he knew exactly what the problem was-the torque converter. That basically the car was stuck in 4th and couldn't slip into 1st. I asked that a technician drive it home in hopes of duplicating. The next day a service rep reported that they were unable to duplicate the shuddering/shut-off, but that they could feel it searching for gears. They said it was possibly a torque converter and that a total rebuild of the transmission at $4,000 was required. Aamco is willing to replace the torque converter as long as I acknowledge that I may need a total rebuild as they have never seen it just be a torque converter. As I owe more than the car is worth, I have zero options but to pay for a costly rebuild.

Altima

  • 87,000 miles
My 2013 Nissan Altima has 87000 miles on it and had a second transmission failure that needs replacing. This was quoted at $3600+ tax. This failure is due to a transmission fluid pressure sensor going bad that can't be changed alone and requires a whole new transmission. 2 transmission replacements in under 87000 miles is unreasonable.

Having issues accelerating (in motion) when driving the vehicle. Engine light came on. According to the mechanic when the system was checked, the problem/issue originates from the automatic transmission. After further investigation, this seems to be an issue with the Nissan Altima vehicles.

Altima

  • 92,000 miles
Cvt transmission failed completely on 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 S with 92,000 miles. Vehicle began shuddering and jerking while driving at moderate speed in town. Rpms shot up to 3-4K intermittently while maintaining speed on flat road. Started to hear grinding noise from engine compartment, so pulled into parking lot. After waiting an hour for power train to cool off, started the car again to find total cvt failure, with vehicle stalling and engine shutting off upon shifting into R or D. could not even drive vehicle back into parking space after it rolled backwards on first attempt to move. Vehicle was towed to dealership, who diagnosed internal cvt failure with $3800 quote for repair. Nissan Consumer Affairs was contacted numerous times and offered no assistance. Nissan regional specialist stated that 2007-2010 Altima cvt warranty was extended to 120,000 miles due to widespread problems, but that problems had been fixed in newer models, so no warranty extension applied to 2013 Altima. As of April 2018, the 2013 Altima has more power train complaints to NHTSA (241) than all of the 2007-2010 Altima model years combined (206). Vehicle had tcm reprogramming performed at Nissan dealership in April 2017 within two weeks after recall notice was sent to owner by mail.

Altima

  • 35,000 miles
As I was driving my 2013 Nissan Altima with 35K miles on it, I came to a stoplight at a busy intersection and my car cut off completely without any indication that something was wrong. I was not able to put my foot on the brakes, I could not move my steering wheel, it just cut off. I was able to cut my car back on, however whenever I shifted my gear into drive it cut off again. I had my car towed to the Nissan dealership, and they stated they could not find the issue but reprogrammed my cvt since there was a recall issued for my car. They determined that after driving it for 25 minutes that day and 25 minutes the next that the cvt reprogramming could have been the solution to the problem but to return it to the dealer if it happened again. 3 days later my car began shaking and stalling very roughly while in motion and again cut off in the middle of the road while in drive. This time my young son was in the car with me, and him and I could have both been harmed or caused an accident and harmed someone else. This is unacceptable that Nissan has not recalled these vehicles or the car has been returned to customers without a solution to the problem.

Altima

  • 69,700 miles
I purchased a used 2013 Nissan Altima S 2.5L in May 2016 and in Jan 2017 the transmission died. I contacted Nissan and my dealership for assistance, and no one could assist me with anything (paying for repairs, a different car, etc). My car barely accelerated across a busy intersection and I could have gotten killed. I had to continue paying my car note while getting rental cars/riding uber and lyft/ getting rides, calling out from work some days, while I waited for any response from Nissan, only to finally receive a non-chalant, "Nissan cannot offer you any assistance at this time". I contacted numerous mechanics for transmission prices and all of them told me that other people with the same car/year had called with transmission issues as well. I can see online that many people have the same issue with this specific year of Altima and Nissan is doing nothing about it and not being held accountable. Now, almost a year later after I got the transmission replaced, my engine is stalling, I am having the intermittent acceleration issue once again, and I would hate to fork out $4000 on yet another transmission -or be without a car- or have to get a different car (with a compounded loan or a lower value car). I am extremely frustrated by the situation and lucky to be alive after having this car. I should not have to suffer this with a car that is not even 3 years old. It is unsafe for these vehicles to be on the road if they can stop working at any time while driving during a commute and Nissan won't address the issue or acknowledge that they have designed a faulty transmission in their 2013 Altima.

Wish I had seen all these complaints before purchasing this vehicle 7 months ago for way more than I should have. Within 3 months the transmission went out and I had to spend $4,000 to get it rebuilt. It has been back to the mechanic 4 times (luckily under their warranty) and is still messing up every few weeks. I feel like this is a defect through Nissan and they should take some responsibility. I guess they would rather get a bad reputation and less future sales. My car has completely stopped working while I have been on the interstate going 70 mph. I have 2 children to Transport and 2 sick parents. I should be able to rely on this vehicle and I can't. very frustrating !!! if I didn't owe so much on it, I would definitely get rid of it. I previously had a 1997 Nissan Altima that gave me very little trouble, but now I will never purchase a Nissan again !!! www.carcomplaints.com says to avoid this car like the plague. I think they are so very right.

2013 Nissan Altima with only 52K miles I first noticed the problem when I was backing out of my drive way; first it stalled, shaky when I accelerate slightly it was fine. When I went to change to park mode; experience the same thing stalked&shake if I stopped at a light, stop sign, or change speed I experienced the same problem this will happen in busy traffic, highways in fact my 17 year old daughter (1st time driven herself home from work) experience it, at a very busy intersection she couldn't get the car going. We had to turn the engine off for about 15-30minutes and pressed/ pulsed the gas to finally get it to move... this all happened for 3 days and I took it to Nissan dealership (payed $140 to diagnose the problem) mechanic said just from driving the car into the shop, 9/10 it may be the transmission. To pinpoint the problem they will have to remove the cover body ($546) and if it's the transmission, repairs will cost $4600!!!! even though mileage is within the warranty range of <60K it's not covered because they claimed the car was in an accident and was salvaged. I really don't understand why that will impact it given the car had only 13K when I purchased it. It seem this is common problem reported by many with this particular car. From what I have read, complains dating back to identical to issues with 2008-2011 models, multiple recalls... this sort of problems could course accidents and loss if life. These are human problems...I believe Nissan should be held accountable and to much higher standards in this space- vehicle manufacturing, dealership, parts, sales, repairs etc. If nothing is done to address these issues, I will never purchase a Nissan!!!

My Nissan Altima was in park it started up however I could not get the car out of park this is a 2013 this is a very serious issue after reading the many complaints concerning the shifter and cvt this car needs an immediate recall before someone is killed. Each time the car was stuck in park the car was running and stationary the Nissan dealership diagnosed the problem as the shifter and said the whole shifter needs replacing after viewing numerous complaints a recall must be issued before it's too late. I can provide documentation if needed the repair was $768 this is an on going problem with Nissan 2012-current.

Cvt transmission issues. Received a recall notice on the cvt transmission to reprogram the cvt. Issue started before the reprogram and before 100K miles, stalled out in traffic, smelled burning rubber, sputtering while driving no engine light appeared on the dash. All these issues occurred before the recall notice. Once I received the notice from Nissan, took into service department to complete. Worked fine with little issues, still sputtering and stalled out once for about 2 months, issue started again. Check engine light came on this time. Took into service department for diagnostics as requested from Nissan, my own expense, was notified by service department the code is P17F1 " death code" for transmission. Called Nissan Consumer Affairs to apply for out of warranty assistance from Nissan was told did not qualify, due to mileage. Mileage is now over 100K. The cvt transmission problems consist of the transmission oil getting to hot while driving on trips, causing the seals to burn. Nissan is aware of the issues customers are experiencing with the cvt transmissions and should be responsible for repairing.

When engaging the vehicle into gear the engine dies. Service tech at local Nissan dealer confirms transmission malfunction. Vehicle has 65,000 miles. Nissan has had issues with similar transmissions in the past and extended the warranty to 120,000 to assist other consumers. Due to my transmission being a "generation 2" it is not covered by the extended warranty. Although, obviously, "generation 2" has malfunctions as did "generation 1".

Was driving my 2013 Altima sl and without any warning the transmission started slipping, stopped vehicle, and everytime I attempted to put car in drive or reverse, the motor died, and I restarted the motor due to the bitter cold weather conditions, called Nissan North America talked to colleen agent # 731913 with my concerns on 12/29/2017, after hanging up with colleen and continuing to try to get the vehicle to, called Nissan North America again and spoke to erik case # 29343050, who adviced me to call Nissan the next day 01/01/2018. I called and it was a holiday and not opened., finally got the vehicle in drive and attempted to drive it home with transmission slipping and motor dying in heavy bumper to bumper holiday traffic. On 01/02/2018 contacted Nissan North America, was advised to take vehicle to nearest Nissan dealership, and they would pay $100 towards the record bill. I paid this wrecker bill out of my pocket with receipts. The vehicle was delivered to walter's Nissan 30 walter's lane pikeville, ky. 41501 on 01/03/2018 were it was evaulated and determined to be complete cvt transmission failure, and would be replaced. I have the Nissan security plus gold preferred vehicle service contract 60 months/75,000 miles, service contract # 0 7236319. This car has 68,000 miles on it, and the contract expired on 01/04/2018. It was in the dealership on 01/03/2018 and determine with the cvt transmission failure. I called walter's Nissan on 01/05/218 and was told they had ordered a new cvt transmission under warranty. Today I was advised by walter's Nissan dealership they was in a dispute with Nissan America regional specialist, due to the warranty expiring on 01/04/2018, today 01/08/2018 and would not honor the warranty or a request for a rental car. The cvt transmission has had many failures similiar to mine, yet Nissan America still markets this vehicle
