Altima 4-cyl

  • 2,000 miles
My Altima acts as if the alignment is out. At all speeds it drifts and I usually drive 55-70 on the highway and it will drift to the extreme right and left. I have to continue to steer left and right to keep it in between the lines of the direction I am traveling. If there is any wind I have to drive holding the wheel with both hands to keep it in my lane. I had a gust of wind cause my vehicle to travel in the oncoming lane because of the drift. This vehicle is a danger and life threatening to my family and me. I have taken it to Firestone for alignments and to landers mcclarty Nissan of huntsville Alabama and it remains a danger to my family. Alignments did not fix anything.

There is a loud, noticeable creaking/clunking noise coming from the right front passenger area when traveling over bumps (such as a parking lot speed bump). The dealership has replaced struts, springs, dropped the transmission, etc and after 19 days is unable to determine the cause for this noise. Both the service manager and someone from Nissan have attempted to diagnose. I have owned this vehicle for 47 days and less than 700 miles. So far it has spent 22 days in the shop for a myriad of problems; it is currently at the dealership as this complaint is being submitted.

I first noticed it driving the car home from the dealership. I felt as though the front tires were moving in different directions at the same time and there is a metallic sound in the front end (can only hear when your next to barriers or bridges on the highway). The car drift is so bad I feel I will be pulled over for dui!!!! I was planning a trip that week to Texas with my grandchildren and I had already had an issue with the airbag light being on so I took the car back to the dealer to look at it, they couldn't get me in!!! I made my trip anyway and it was the scariest most dangerous trip I have ever made!!!! I was all over the highway on any straightaway, the slightest wind or another vehicle passing me would send me into the other lane. I finally was able to get the car into the dealer and advised them to take the car on the highway and listen for the noise as well at overpasses (when you have noise coming back at you) the rep came out and said that his tech could not find any thing wrong with the car and that it drives like all other Altima's! this is not true!! and they said they never heard the noise, which I find very hard to believe because I hear it all the time! the driverside front-end sounds like a 10 year old car when it hits a bump in the road or parking lot, like its shocks or something are bad... I am soooo disappointed in Nissan and with the Altima completely, what is the use having a beautiful car when it is a danger on the highway!!!!!!!!!! I will post on all websites about this car! it is dangerous!!!

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the steering wheel was very loose and that made it hard to keep the vehicle straight. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed an alignment. The contact stated that did not correct the problem. The failure mileage was 15 and the current mileage was 3,250.

At highway speeds the car is difficult to control - very poor handling. A lot of sway in the steering and suspension. Car constantly drifts side to side at highway speeds requiring continuous steering correction. Not a mechanical or electrical malfunction, just poor handling.

This vehicle wanders left and right, especially at highway speeds. It feels like you are driving in breezy conditions, even when there is no wind at all. The effect is amplified on concrete highways with light drainage grooves. When the road is wet, it feels very unstable. It is difficult to keep the car going on a straight course, with constant steering corrections needed. The vehicle is also very sensitive to slight crosswinds or passing vehicles which send the car off its course. The dealer said it was caused by the tires but I know this is not true because I have a 2013 Honda Odyssey that has the same contiprocontact tires and it drives like a dream.

Since new this car has had a serious handling issue. It did arrive new with defective tires. New tires were installed, problem caused by tires was know gone. However, the car still handled very poorly at speeds over 65 mph. The handling is so bad that I feel it is dangerous at freeway speeds. Handling is a very subjective complaint, and because it is, I do not feel that this is being treated the way it should be. The may issue of popular mechanics describes this issue perfectly. "against the competition the Altima feels disjointed, as if different engineering teams had calibrated the steering, suspension, and powertrain without talking to one another.when we pitched the car hard into a corner, for instance, the light steering made us wonder if we'd be able to complete the turn. We found that the body bobs and weaves during a hard run through the canyons, leaving the driver without confidence in its handling.' I have contacted Nissan, and I truly believe this is a very serious issue that needs to be addressed before someone is injured or worse.

On Aug. 10th we recd an email from the empire Nissan fleet mngr [xxx]. he stated that they needed to have the car back and would pay our first mth pymt and give us a replacement car of like kind and quality. They would not tell us why the veh needed to be returned. We notified Corp Nissan Consumer Affairs dept and they contacted empire Nissan. They finally advise that the reason they need the veh back was because there was an open campaign on it with a single recall. We agreed to return it for the repair. We took the veh back to Nissan and later on that day, we were notified there were 10 recalls found on the veh! at this point we realized that was why they wanted to swap the veh. They agreed to give us a rental car during repairs. We picked up the veh & as soon as we left, there was a constant buzzing noise coming from the car, there was a lot of road noise and whistling from the windows, the engine was loud. We called the GM [xxx] & ask them to buy the veh back & they told us that we were asking too much and that we are acting like we are the victim. We also called the svs mgr, [xxx] to make have the veh serviced again. He was rude and said he didn't want to get in the middle of this with the manufacture & to not bring the veh in to them for svs & they will not be providing a loaner nor a rental for us. He stated he would have an engineer come out to look at the veh to determine the cond. We have heard nothing. Nissan has been evasive and has not been honest with us. Knowing that veh had several mechanical issues, they allowed us to cont to drive this veh and put us in danger with no regards to our safety. Just a day ago we saw on the news there are now two more recalls on our veh. Now a total of 12 recalls on a brand new car! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
