Altima SL 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 10,000 miles

We purchased a 2015 Nissan Altima new on August 23, 2014. Our complaint on the very first service is that with a passenger in the passenger seat, the ocs light would be on. We found the only way to correct this occasional problem was to stop the car and restart, and with the passenger in the seat, the light would go out.

When taking the car in for routine service, we have often mentioned this problem. The dealer has stated, they cannot duplicate or find the problem; but they did state that they have perfumed the recall problem and have installed new soft wear. We do have two case numbers with Nissan corporate. We still have the problem and the regional specialist stated they cannot do anything about it until they can duplicate the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

passanger air bag light is off with adult in the seat

Nissan has a major recall on the airbag system, see the attached photo for details. If you go to http://www.nissanusa.com/recalls-vin#/ and enter the VIN it will show you all of the recalls for that vehicle.

This particular recall is NHTSA ID: 16V-244NISSAN ID: R1609.

What's interesting is, with about 7000 or so miles on the car we brought in to Auto Nation Marietta, where the car was purchased, to tell them about the sporadic issue. They proceeded to "look" at it, say it is operating fine, and even printed the instructions for us so we can understand how the system works...

Fast forward ten thousand miles later, there is a recall for the very issue we brought the car in for!

For a vehicle that was purchased at the end of 2014 we have had, 3 recalls, a visor fall down, squeaky brakes, passenger air bag light issues, and the CVT is beginning to show early signs of the Nissan CVT death shutter and will probably conk out at 50k - 100k miles, so yeah it's safe to go ahead and update the 2015's Nissan Altima's rating from Beware of Clunker to AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE!!!

Altima Special Edition 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,550 miles

After 5 weeks of owning a new Altima, I noticed the airbag light is off when I have a front seat passenger in the car. I have read my manual 3x to confirm this is not normal. I took it to the dealership 30 miles from my house. They reprogrammed the airbag sensor and it is still not working properly. I would rather not wait until I get in a crash to see if the airbag deploys or not. I could not live with myself if my son or best friend died from a malfunctioning airbag.

Altima SV 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 2,000 miles

I've been reading articles about the 2012-14 Nissan Altima having issues with the occupant detection system. I just want to add that I own a 2015 Altima with this same issue. I have brought it to the dealership and they claimed to have fixed the issue and not even a week later the airbag turned off again with an adult on the seat. I returned the vehicle to the dealership but they declined to repair it as there were "no codes present". I was told to bring the vehicle back to the dealership when it happened again with the light on. Seeing as the problem is intermittent I have no way of telling when it's going to happen and I'm not going to drag someone else to the dealership while I'm in the middle of something.

While driving 35 miles, the airbag light went off about 5 miles from home so I guess the airbag is working again.
