  • 68,000 miles
Transmission problem for miles over 60,000. When at stop light and try to accelerate when the light changes, car does not move when accelerator is pressed. While driving, car does not switch gears and car slows down. This is a very dangerous situation for the driver and passengers. If you are driving one of these cars, it will be deadly one day. I don't understand how these vehicles can be sold. After many people lose their lives, someone will notice. This car is dangerous on city streets and also interstate driving.

  • 59,000 miles
I have a 2016 Nissan Altima with about 68,000 miles and my transmission has trouble changing gears after driving it for a few minutes. As I change gears from 0 to 40 mph, the car starts jerking or takes a while to reach 40 mph. It also happens when I'm driving around the city and I make a full stop at a stop light. After the light turns green, when I start accelerating the car won't speed up no matter how far I push the accelerator, after 6-10 seconds have passed it'll start moving but in a very jerking manner. To fix the issue at the moment, I have to turn off the car and let it rest for a few minutes. But, it still does this every time I drive. In the highway, I can not go faster than 70 mph because once I get out of the high way and slow down the car will have the same gear changing issue and it feels like the car will give up any second. This wasn't an issue when I got this car with about 48,000 miles about a year and a half ago. It started about 8 months after getting it and it has only gotten worse. I took my car to my mechanic to let me know what the issue was and he told me that it was the cvt transmission. Since my car is out of warranty and it doesn't fall under the recall made for the cvt transmission, my only solution would be to pay out of pocket.

  • 77,000 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that three days after the vehicle underwent a routine oil change, the continuously variable transmission (cvt) failed to properly change over for the vehicle to accelerate. The vehicle went from 65 mph to less than 45 mph, which caused the risk of a crash. The vehicle was driven cautiously to the contact's residence and then towed to priority Nissan richmond (16301 priority way, chester, va 23831, (804) 414-0550). The dealer diagnosed that the cvt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was excluded from an extended warranty based on the mileage. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000. The consumer stated vehicle repaired on 05/03/19 prior to breakdown.

Takata recall. My car started messing up after I came back from Texas. It was doing fine until it started losing power. When I press the gas it was going slow and I could press it all the way to the floor and it wouldn't move. The dealer that I got it from (car king) have went out of business and they are in a lot of trouble.

  • 97,000 miles
My vehicle's cvt transmission failed at 97,000 miles. I experienced the same symptoms everyone else has experienced with this transmission - vibrations, wildly fluctuating rpms and frequent downshifts. Within a matter of a few days the transmission started slipping. I feel lucky I wasn't killed when my vehicle's transmission slipped while I was attempting to cross traffic. After my local Nissan dealer quoted me a price of $4,087 for a transmission replacement, I called Nissan customer care and requested they cover the replacement cost of the cvt but they refused. No three-year-old, normally-driven vehicle under 100,000 miles should ever have its transmission fail. The Nissan cvt problem is a national travesty. I was a Nissan customer for life but will never purchase nor endorse their vehicles ever again.

  • 70,000 miles
I purchased a 2016 Nissan Altima in 2017. After about 60,000 miles I noticed it started to jerk when I accelerated. Since my oxygen sensor needed to be replaced I thought that was the issue. Once I hit 70,000 miles my transmission completely went out on me. Just 10,000 miles over their factory warranty. Nissan has extended their power train warranty in the past. However, since my car is a 2016 it is not covered in that warranty extension. There are numerous complaints about their cvt transmissions. Rather than fixing the issue they extended it on older models, and left everyone else to fix it on our own dime. Nissan should be held accountable for everyone of their vehicles not just a select few older models. I have owned a Nissan for 12 years. Never ever again will I purchase another Nissan. Since they obviously do not care about the people that purchase their vehicles

Cvt transmission slipping, delayed changing of gears, no response of gas pedal. My Altima rolls into traffic with me pressing the gas there is a 3-5 second delay before taking off. Very dangerous. No one was able to recreate the problem but now it won't shift. It revs high and will not transfer to wheels.

The transmission does not shift properly. After engine is warm, when you push the gas pedal, there is about 5-6 second delay before car will go. If you accelerate to get onto highway from on ramp, it makes a rattling sound. It is getting too dangerous to drive it, since you are not able to predict when it will do this. This always seems to happen if I am in rush hour traffic.

This vehicle was purchased new from anderson Nissan - lake havasu city, AZ and we also purchased the extended warranty (up to 60,000 miles). At approximately 64,000 miles the transmission broke down completely. When this was towed to the originating dealership, we specifically asked if there were any "known transmission issues" with this vehicle make/model/year. We were only told "this can sometimes happen". we have since learned that there has been a class action suit against Nissan for this specific issue. Anderson-Nissan charged us $3700 to repair the transmission and is not accepting any responsibility or replying to any emails as to their lack of transparency regarding transmission issues.

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that there was an intermittent failure and the transmission failed to change gears, when necessary, in any gear. The rpms increased from 1,500 to 4,000; however, the speed reduced from 80 to 40 mph. The contact was unable to safely drive the vehicle due to the failure and drastic reduction in speed. Goodman Chevrolet Cadillac Nissan (1003 happy valley rd, glasgow, ky 42141, (270) 678-1300), jim johnson Nissan (2200 scottsville rd, bowling green, ky 42104, (270) 781-6770), and an independent certified mechanic were contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

I have an intermittent problem when I'm driving where all of a sudden I can't accelerate. I'll have the pedal to the floor but nothing absolutely nothing happening. The gas pedal is fully depressed and yet the car slows down the way it would if you took your foot off the gas. This has happened 5 times over the past month. Bought this car new 2 years ago. I should not be having a problem like this. I've been to 2 dealerships and they both tell me they aren't getting a code so they can't see anything wrong. One of the Nissan mechanics road tested it with me and experienced the problem but I'm still being told that there is nothing wrong. I suspect something is wrong with the cvt. I'm terrified to drive it because I don't know when it will happen. This is very dangerous. It's happened at all speeds - 5 mph in a parking lot, 30 mph on the street, 45-60 mph on the highway. Most recently it happened on the highway at 60 mph. The RPM went way up but the car would not accelerate and I couldn't get it to go above 60 mph.

2016 Nissan Altima 2.5sr cvt transmission failure at 26K miles. While in motion going freeway speeds, vehicle suddenly loses power when attempting to maintain cruising speed and rpms fluctuated intensely up and down. Felt very unsafe while trying to pull over to the shoulder and feared other vehicles could have struck me while having no control over vehicle speed. Brought vehicle into Nissan dealership and confirmed it is an issue with cvt transmission requiring $4K cvt transmission repair, luckily covered under 5 year, 60K mile warranty. This issue seems common with other owners of the cvt transmission and should have its powertrain cvt transmission warranty extended on newer models to 10 years, 120,000 miles just like the 2003-2010 year models with the cvt have received.

I stopped at a light and proceeded to go forward and the car would not accelerate so I pushed hard on the accelerator and the car just took off. I was on a city street. I took it to my mechanic and he said that it's a problem with the transmission. I then took the car to the Nissan dealer and they ran a free test and said that I would have to pay $130 to get a diagnostic test. That would let me know if it is the transmission. We purchased the car nine months ago at 30,000 miles and now it is over 60,000 mile S. the warranty has expired at 60,000 miles. Nissan know there is a problem with the transmission and you have drivers with complaints. It is just a matter of time when their cars will hesitate and someone is going to lose their life. My car is not the only one. Families are going to be traveling and these cars hesitate. That is going to be a deadly situation. I don't feel safe driving this car. I will never purchase another Nissan.

At 61,000 miles (just 1000 miles after the warranty expired), the cvt transmission failed while vehicle was in motion. It started as a knocking that occurred while shifting gears. The next day, the engine violently fluctuated between gears while going ~60 mph on the highway. It then remained in the high gear after the vehicle came to a stop at a red light.

  • 50,000 miles
The car is barely 3 years old and I brought it new with only 8 miles. The car started hesitating while in stop and go traffic on the interstate. That's where I noticed the hesitation first. The issue occurs on the highway, city streets, turning, and car has had issues while in motion. When in stop and go traffic, stopped at a stop sign or have to stop to make a turn the car hesitates about 5-10 seconds and then takes off. This has caused me to almost be in several accidents. I thought it was bad gas so switched gas stations and it stopped for a while and then started back. While driving came to a stop to make a left turn. The car hesitated and then when the turn was complete the car would not accelerate pass 40mph. I came to another stop sign, car hesitated, and car would not accelerate pass 20mph. I had to pull over turn the car off and back on. It started accelerating properly but still with the hesitation from a stop. I took the car to Nissan and they did a diagnostic test for $125 which led them to say that the valve body needs to be replaced or the car needs a new cvt. The dealership request another $400 to inspect the transmission to see which way it could be fixed. ($1100 valve body and $4000 cvt replaced. This is very costly and a 2016 car should not need a transmission. There is a known problem with Nissan's cvt that I was not aware of until now. Among other things the service advisor advised that this just happens. Well it should not just happen in a 3 year old car.
