Truck would not start. Towed to auto garage. Told radiator has a defective coolest line that runs thru transmission. This caused cross contamination of radiator fluid and transmission fluid, causing breakdown of transmission and radiator. Found out online that this happens with three types of Nissan vehicles made between 2005 and 2010. Nissan will only cover if under 100,000 miles but I have to pay first 3000 on a fix averaging 3800 to 4000. I was never notified of any problems by Nissan. They knew their was a problem and I believe that are stalling and covering this problem. They should be 100% responsible for this liability. Car company's paid for all types of recall for their design flaws, what is the difference here other than the amount needed to do what is right.

I first began noticing a problem with my 2007 Nissan Frontier when the heater was having trouble heating up the cab as I was driving. At first the problem was intermittent and the heater would warm up for a while and then get cold again. Shortly after that I began to notice a vibration or shuddering at higher speeds as if I was hitting a rumble strip. I began doing some research on the internet and found that this is a very common problem with several Nissan models between 2005 and 2010. I took the truck to the local dealership and they knew immediately what the problem was and what was needed to repair it. The radiator develops a crack that leaks into the transmission and starts tearing up the internals of the transmission. The dealership recommended replacement of both the radiator and the transmission. The cost to do this repair was about $5,100. The cost was not covered in the Nissan extended warranty because the truck had over 100,000 miles. I am extremely frustrated that Nissan does not stand behind their vehicles. I did not receive any notice from Nissan that there was an engineering defect in their cars.

Purchased the vehicle on 8/16/2014 and I was driving the vehicle to work and transmission wouldn't shift out of gear along with the check engine light came on. Nissan claims powertrain warranty will not cover since it is a radiator problem which causes the failure. ----- leaking coolant causes transmission failure an alarming number of Nissan xterra, pathfinder and Frontier owners are stepping forward with stories about how cracked radiators are causing coolant to leak into the transmission. Once mixed with the transmission fluid this lethal combination kills the valves, seals and torque converter -- rendering your entire transmission useless. This issue is currently contained to the 2005'2010 model years. Some articles online claim that being aware of the proper warning signs may help prevent your Nissan from needing a rebuilt transmission. These warning signs are: Heavy vibration while shifting heavy vibration while accelerating abrupt stalling shuddering noises car doesn't warm up when sitting owners who have had their radiator crack are claiming that even if you catch it early, your transmission is still doomed trouble due to this engineering / manufacturing defect. Through no fault of their own, Nissan owners who are out of warranty are left to cover the hefty repair bill, which can be over $4,500 when all is said and done.

Over the course of approx 2 weeks the vehicle experienced transmission slippage and engine overheating. Then the transmission ceased to function. The vehicle had to be towed to a transmission shop. I was driving down a back road. While traveling up a slight hill the truck slipped out of gear. When I pressed the gas pedal the engine would rev but it would not accelerate. I pulled to the side of the road and turned off the truck. When I restarted and put it in drive I started rolling backwards. I ended up getting towed to my mechanic. If this was the original transmission I could understand that at 155K miles it could fail, however this truck has now gone through the factory transmission as well as a factory refurbished transmission all within 7 years. I read online about many Frontier owners having the same issue as I have. I brought the truck to my mechanic who informed me that the radiator fails which causes the transmission to fail. I feel lucky that I was on a back road because the failure happened quickly, had I been on a highway with moderate traffic I could easily been stranded in the middle of the road.
