Service engine light 2000 Nissan Maxima about 80K miles. In the last two months I have had my car in the shop 4 different times for my service engine light. My independent service station tried what they could, before finely replacing an oxygen sensor. This kept the service engine light off for the better part of two weeks. But it's back and this time the computer code is registering a faulty aacv valve. My mechanic says that this is a fairly common occurrence with these engines and that Nissan might help foot the cost of repairs considering that the seal inside the assembly is the known culprit. My mechanic could make the repairs himself but then the car would need to be towed to Nissan since the security codes would need to be reset and only Nissan can do that. I called my local Nissan dealership (where I purchased the car) and was told that since I had used an independent rather than their service center for repairs, the best I might get would be a hand shake. Is what my mechanic said correct" is this is fairly common problem? and, if so, how do I get Nissan to accept responsibility in as much as they used faulty materials in the manufacture of the aacv valve"

The vehicle started shaking uncontrollably and then stalled. The driver was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the dealer. The mechanic informed the driver that the ignition coil needed to be replaced........ignition coils and spark plugs were replaced a tcost of $638.

I am contacting the NHTSA in regards to tsb # ntb01-076B affecting 2000-2001 Maximas involving the egi harness breakage. I have attempted to contact Nissan's home division via E-mail on 3 seperate occasions with no response/reply back from their headquarters. This problem was identified on my vehicle last year causing the vehicle to overheat under normal conditions. Upon taking it into the dealership, I was informed that it was a known manufacturing problem and many harnesses have been replaced, but at the cost of the consumer ranging from $1,500-3,000 (depending on the dealership). I have now personally had my car overheat and shutdown on three seperate occasions, the most recent nearly being a severe accident if not due to the attention of the drivers involved. Next time this happens to an effected Nissan the outcome may not be so minor. Please investigate this tsb with Nissan headquarters, being they are unwilling to make any efforts to reply back to the consumer. The remote that controlled the door locks malfunctioned. When the remote was close to the vehicle it caused the truck to pop open unexpectedly. The remote's battery was changed but the problem persisted. Nissan customer affairs was contacted.

Had problems with engine ping 1 year after purchase. Was told by dealership to use better grade of gas and some pinging is normal. Pinging persisted and right after warranty expired, pinging got so bad the car was undriveable. All 6 coils and knock sensors needed to be replaced. Cost me $1500. Nissan won't cover any of it even though the problem obviously existed while vehicle was in warranty. Despite efforts to have the vehicle serviced, Nissan was negligent in refusing to perform the necessary repairs and stalling until the warranty had expired.

Vehicle would exhibit loss of power, misfiring and loud pinging noises at half throttle or more when passing or accelerating into highway traffic and when passing at any speed. Also, the engine had an intermittent rough idle problem. Rough enough to shake entire vehicle and either force me to pull over or prevent me from driving off safely. When I let the engine cool I would continue the trip hoping the problem would not recur. Both problems were determined to be ignition coil(s) related. All six coils were replaced because no diagnostic trouble code "dtc" to pinpoint an individual coil had registered at the ECU computer along with no service engine light "ses". the vehicle was less than three years old but had 37,500 miles. These coils are electrical components and are affected by age and/or design and not by miles driven. I did not qualify for warranty repair.
