problem #166

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 100,010 miles
While driving through the town of westport, ct, the car started to jerk and then it was difficult to get past 25 miles per hour and then all of a sudden the car shut off a couple of times. I then made it to a gas station and after a few minutes it started up and I made it home. I have now been told that there is a problem with the transmission on my car that causes jerking, gear slipping and sudden acceleration and cut offs that Nissan is aware of (on the 2006 Nissan Maxima models) and they have not addressed any of these problems or issues. I guess they will wait until someone gets killed before something happens. It is going to cost me $3000 to get my car fixed when it should be free because of the defect in the transmission on this model year car.

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 90,000 miles
Upon accelerating, the vehicle lost power and harshly shifted into the next gear, surging forward and causing the operator to almost hit a vehicle in front of the vehicle. When Nissan was advised I was told to have the trans replaced (not cheap). Upon checking Nissan forums and speaking with other owners turns out this is a common problem with Nissan of the same generation, like the murano, and Altima. The problem has persisted, I refuse to repair an issue that seems to be a defect, along with the power steering issue that is 'common' in these cars.

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 70,000 miles
After car has been driven for about 30 minutes the transmission slips and hesitates when shifting, especially into and out of 3rd gear. Took it to the dealership and I didn't even have to tell them what was wrong, he asked me if my transmission was acting up. When I said yes he rattled off about 5 things people have been experiencing (hard shifting in reverse, hesitation in upshifting, etc) and I said yes to each one. Without even looking at it he said it would be $4,000 for a new transmission because all of them have that problem. I contacted Nissan about paying for it and they refused, twice. I've almost gotten into a handful of accidents because of this. Switching lanes to pass someone on the highway and the transmission hesitates and sends the RPM's to 7000 and I almost get rear-ended, then when it does shift it jerks so hard the car swerves all over the road. It shifts so hard my engine mounts are broken and need replaced too.

Maxima

Transmission has acted up and gotten stuck in 5th gear since I bought the car. It is very slow to take off from a stop when this happens and does not drive well at all. It also slams in and out of first and second gear before getting stuck in 5th.

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 114,256 miles
The vehicle shifts gears in a very rough jerking motion. I have experience late gear engagement, which have resulted in multiple near collision accidents. Jerking also occurs when changing from reverse into drive. When pressing down on gas during highway travel, the RPM's raise and then a few seconds later the car will jerk into gear and then the speed will increase.

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 55,410 miles
This car has had hardshifts, between 2-3 gears and horrible downshifts. Nearly impossible to drive in stop and go traffic. Many other people have these issues. Flair shifts when coasting. Slipping in and out of gears. Please help! the car shifts erratically and this is due to a production issue with these transmissions. Nissan knows of these problems and that's why they now use cvt transmissions. Please issue a recall!

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 57,000 miles
Transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gears and very high RPM occurred at same time. Needed an entire transmission overhaul. Warranty good for 60 months or 60,000 miles. Transmission gave out at 57000 miles but car was purchased 7-18-06, so it is past the 60 months. Nissan taking no responsibility whatsoever, despite numerous transmission problems of Nissan owners. Paid over $3000 to fix transmission.

After reading multiple reviews, it looks like my car is having the same issues. I am driving down the road and the freeways and suddenly my car would shut down. On the freeway. With 2 babies in the car. I have taken my car in multiple times and nothing seems to fix the issues. In addition, my car jerks multiple times and wont kick into gear while driving and then all of a sudden my "check engine light comes on".

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 78,000 miles
Transmission slipped while in traffic on the freeway, the engine revved up then the transmission slipped back into gear, jerking the car forward and nearly rear ending the car in front of me. This occurred several times in subsequent days until I had the transmission replaced.

Dec 152013

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 85,000 miles
My initial incident occurred sometime in December, after putting my vehicle in to gear (D) from park position it hesitated and then it felt as if my whole car jumped. I stepped on the gas to slowly accelerate and the cars engine revved up but the car did not move. It kind of scared me. It continued to do so on my drive home. It continues to do so off and on predominately when my car has had the opportunity to warm up. After doing some online research as to what could be causing the issue it seems that there are many complaints with this same matter. It is believed that the transmissions installed in Nissan Maximas are faulty and Nissan refused to do anything about this issue. It is very hazards to be driving like this and it is a very costly fix for a problem that should not be happening this early on or at all with a vehicle.

Maxima

  • 101,000 miles
Every time I put car in gear it jumps and feels like car falling apart. As I am driving and get up to 50 miles per hour the car will jerk. I have replaced motor mounts, had transmission flushes, transmission fluid changes, new tires and car still jerks and tranny and gear shafts are faulty. The entire body of car feels like it's coming apart.

I bought the car with 81,000. Soon after, the transmission in the car started giving me hickups now and then and now, it hard shift from third to fourth and sometimes 1 to 2nd. The car has now 89,000 and I'm very disappointed with this for. A car with less than 100K miles.

Feb 102013

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 102,500 miles
Transmission is slipping and bucking so hard that it feels as if you either hit someone or someone has hit you from behind. Causes you to lose speed and makes the cars behind you to slow down to avoid rear ending collision. When the vehicle is like this it gives you a very uneasy feeling as to what will happen next to cause you to become a hazard and put yourself and others in danger. The vehicle has gone through 2 rebuilt transmissions already this year alone and the problem is starting to resurface again.

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 72,000 miles
I was a proud owner of a 2006 Maxima but now I am very disappointed. About two months ago, my car started jerking when switching gears, accelerating, parking, and slowing down. I went to Nissan and they told me that my transmission had internal failures and needed to be replaced at $4200!!! my car only has 73,000 miles should not need a new transmission. I looked on the internet and discovered that there are thousands of people who have had the same issues and have filed a class action lawsuit against Nissan because they know that their transmissions are messed up and they are trying not to own up to it. This is a safety concern because when it jerks violently or stalls, you lose control of the car which is very scary and terrifying. I will never buy another Nissan again!!!

Maxima 6-cyl

  • 79,000 miles
While in 3rd gear going into 4th, it would hesitate for a good 2 seconds then pop into 4th. It also started doing the same thing while going into reverse from drive and vice versa. I just think it's quite suspicious that these problems I've been having with this car just started happening within a couple thousand miles of my warranty ending.
