Car looses power numerous times in stop and go traffic, almost caused me an accident while trying to turn left with an oncoming car. Took it to Nissan, they said it's because oil level was low. After oil change service, problem still exists. Looks like it is a transmission failure but Nissan denies it.

I drive a 2003 Nissan Murano. I had exited off the interstate right to a red stoplight. The light turned green and I pushed on the accelerator to only drift into the intersection. I floored the pedal and the vehicle finally jerked into motion after my light had turned red again and traffic was waiting on me. Perhaps it was a computer problem? restart a computer and things clear up. That's what I did with the Murano. The problem seemed to have corrected itself. I was wrong. The next time it happened I was leaving a drive-thru and once again was slowly coasting through a busy intersection until the Murano jerked into action. In all of these situations I have been lucky enough that the other drivers were observant and didn't hit me. I have now noticed this problem occurs at any type of stop and go traffic situation. This problem seems to come and go. It won't happen for days or weeks. Then it'll do the slow and jerk every day at every stop even if I do turn it off and restart. I don't live near a dealership, so I took it to the local dependable shop. Not one of their mechanics could reproduce the condition. I thought it was possibly an acceleration issue. My Murano is a high-mileage vehicle. My friend had mentioned having the transmission in his high-mileage car rebuilt and how it felt like it was new again. While researching on the internet, I didn't find information on a re-build kit, but I did find many forums from other Murano owners with the same "slow and jerk" problem that I have been experiencing. Right now, I'm pretty much waiting for my transmission to fail. I have inquired about the price of removing and replacing the transmission: $4500 was a conservative estimate.

The dealer also stated that the failure could potentially have been caused by the transmission and was unable to confirm that the repairs would correct the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 202,000.

When pushing on the gas pedal the vehicle will not go, it is a once in a while occurrence. Took it to the mechanic and he can find nothing wrong. I did find the problem in a search through the internet, that many people have had the same problem. This is a very dangerous defect!

Driving my 2003 Murano two days ago at around 25mph up a small hill. The vehicle begins to jerk and lose power. I briefly let go of the gas and problem stops. I hit the accelerator pedal again, and again begins to jerk. Check engine light comes on. I pull over, turn off the vehicle for about 30 seconds. Turn it back on, take off again and jerks again. I back off on the pedal and had to climb the hill at 15mph. Once at the top, the vehicle drove fine. I got to my destination and stayed there for about 1.5 hours. Took off and got home with no obvious problems. Weird! next day, at a stop sign a block away from home. Car coming from left, I accelerate and the car bogs on me. Would not accelerate just coasted. No power! called the dealer and dropped it off. They call me later that afternoon and they admit there were high gear issues that were resolved with resetting the transmission computer but they can't find the source of the low gear problems ( these gears are usually the ones in use at higher speeds..... ). very dangerous when driving. I felt very unsafe and afraid that it would happen again which is why I dropped it off at the dealer write away.

Ago, same thing happening again, when is enough, enough what will it take for Nissan to accept full responsibility for this very dangerous problem I guess someone will have to be seriously injured or worse for something to be done how come Toyota is being torn-apart for somewhat similar issues and Nissan is allowed to skate by. A higher authority needs to come to the rescue of us consumers especially in these hard economic times people will continue to drive these death-traps because they cant afford to fix them, someone will be injured because of this, its not a matter of if, it's just a matter of when?

I was trying to merge into traffic after stopping at a stop sign and the car rolled forward a bit but would not accelerate. It finally lurched forward after a few seconds. The problem continued at every stop after that until I shut it off. I took my Murano to a Nissan dealership in East providence, ri and was told the vehicle needed a new transmission. The dealership acted like they had never heard of this before, but searching the internet reveals this is S common problem with Muranos. This is a potentially dangerous problem especially in heavy highway traffic.

I own an '03 Nissan Murano. Since 114K miles, I have experienced stalling following idle. The problem usually occurs when the vehicle is very warm (not overheating). After sitting idle for a few minutes (I.e. at a redlight or stop and go traffic) when I press the accelerator, nothing happens for a few seconds. The RPM's do not indicate any change. And then all of a sudden, the vehicle "realizes" I am pressing the accelerator and takes off at excessive speed/rpms. The problem has put me in very dangerous situations such as when I am trying to make a left hand turn across traffic and suddenly stalls. Or like the first time I experienced the failure, I was trying to pull onto a major highway. By the time my vehicle decided to go, another vehicle was approaching in the lane I was trying to turn onto and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid pulling out in front of the oncoming vehicle and causing a wreck. Several vehicles were behind me waiting to get onto the same highway and were very aggravated I was holding up traffic since my vehicle was stalling. The problems occurs as regularly as I sit idle in traffic or get into a congested traffic area. Every single time. After reading hundreds of early year Murano owners are having the same problem, I feel Nissan should recognize this as a defect and take responsibility for this costly danger. I have read that many have had to replace the entire cvt transmission and that Nissan is often misdiagnosing the problem. A code reader indicated my tps sensor was bad. I changed it with barely any noticeable changes. Later a dealer's code reader said I should replace the Cadillac converter. After that pricey repair, I still have the same problem. Extremely dangerous.

1: after driving the car for along period of time in stop and go traffic or on the thruway. Then coming to a complete stop and pressing the gas the car will crawl forward as if you were not pressing down the gas pedal after 1-3 sec of the car crawling into the middle of a intersect and no way to get it out of the intersect when other cars are coming down at 40mph into the intersection; will be disastrous and potentially cause a lost of life. After 1-3 sec the transmission will finally engage. The funny part is when you turn the car off and restart it the problem clears it self until it problem recurs. After reading other stories of there's cvt transmission in the Murano doing the same thing to the other Murano customer. I decided to take it to the dealer 2: this is a sporadic event and every time I took it to the dealer to get it check they could not duplicate the problem on March 9th and told me the transmission performed normal and it was engine [misfiring and slightly burning oil and compression lost related not transmission [I have enough automotive skill to tell me that this is definitely not a misfire/slightly burning oil/compression lost because once you turn the car off and turn it back on the problem disappears, witha engine misfire it would still persist, the engine is 100% running without any problem until this problem arise: So yesterday, when it started happening to my wife on her drive, I advise her to stop immediately at the dealer to have them take a look at I, to my surprise they refused!!! to take a 2nd look at it as they advise me they already diagnostic it as a engine problem and will not. I called them and demanded that a service tech, test drive it and he said nope this is a engine problem and told my wife to tell me that im making all the service department mad?!. I took it to 2 other transmission place and they verified that this is 100% indeed a transmission problem.

My 2003 Nissan Murano has transmission problems. After driving a couple of hours on highway, it will not pull up a hill, pass a vehicle, especially if I press on the accelerator hard, it jerks, slows down and almost stops. It only does this when warm/hot. It won't do it when cold, so the Nissan dealer can not see the problem. It seems to be getting worse with age. It is a very dangerous condition. I dare not let anyone drive it in the family except me. Nissan should replace the transmission. It is obviously a common defect from what I read on the internet.

I am one of probably thousands of Nissan Murano owners with the cvt transmission with the same problem. I drive a congested freeway and at least twice, sometimes three times a week, in stop and go traffic the car starts to hesitate when I step on the accelerator. I actually have found that "feathering" it helps from having it jerk forward as I step on the accelerator, but it is still extremely dangerous. This is continuous when I come to a stop or almost to a stop until, as others have mentioned, I have an opportunity to turn the ignition off. Difficult to turn the ignition off while driving in stop and go traffic on the freeway. It goes away for a while after I turn it off, but if the driving conditions are the same, it happens again. I took it to a mechanic who stated that the problem is a sensor inside the transmission, but there is no way to fix it. The transmission would require replacement, as there are no re-builds available and Nissan does not have parts for this transmission available for re-builds. The quote for replacement is over $8,000. I believe this is approximately what the car is worth. This is an extremely dangerous situation, and I am concerned that someone will be injured or worse as a result of it, if it has not already happened.

Previously in love with my 2003 Nissan Murano, within the last 4 months (100,000 miles) I have had so many problems. Throttle body, cv boots, axle seals, front and back motor mounts, radiator, and most recently needs a 4,000 transmission repair. Just as others have reported, my car gets to the point where it will not accelerate, even if I push the accelerator to the floor, then it suddenly lunges forward. I am so disappointed and refuse to spend another dollar on this car, which is falling apart at an exponential speed. This is only a 6year old car!

After about 20 minutes driving I get a lagging issue where I step on the gas pedal after a complete stop and nothing happens, then all of sudden after 5 seconds the car accelerates dangerously! my wife drives this car and she's driving with our baby. I'm afraid that one day this problem will happen, and she would accelerate after the lagging issue only to hit someone in front of her and cause a major accident. I'm also afraid when she tries to make a left turn during the lag someone might hit her causing an accident. This manufacture need to recognize this is a safety issue, and they need to have a safety recall on these vehicles.

I won a 2003 Nissan Murano. For the past few years, I have noticed a severe problem with my vehicle. After I am in stop and go traffic for about 5-10 minutes, the accelerator no longer responds properly. When I press down on the peddle, nothing happens for a few seconds. Or, I need to press down very hard on the peddle to get any acceleration. Unfortunately, this cause the vehicle to 'surge' forward. The only way to (temporarily) fix this is to shut off power to the car and restart the engine. However, the problem returns after a few minutes as long as I am in stop and go traffic.
