Murano

  • 59,817 miles
The vehicle was in motion on a highway. Upon braking suddenly due to a red light, traveling approximately 40mph, the brakes lost pressure, and the pedal had to be pressed all the way to the floor to slow the vehicle. The vehicle had to veer into a turn lane to avoid collision with the cars stopped at the stop light. After being parked and shut down for 30 minutes, brake pressure returned. The vehicle has 59,817 miles. It receives regular service only at Nissan dealerships, has new brake pads, and full brake fluid. This is the second time the vehicle has displayed this behavior, with the first incident occurring sometime last year though not as severely.

I have a 2009 Nissan Murano sl AWD. I'm the 2nd owner, and most maintenance was done by byerly Nissan in louisville, ky. The rear brakes were just recently serviced with new pads. After the service, a loss of brake pressure was experienced while driving. After a fight, byerly Nissan replaced the master cylinder saying that was the issue. Since then, I've again lost brake pressure. It's not something that happens regularly, which makes it more unexpected when it does happen. This is dangerous and needs to be recalled / addressed as I'm seeing many complaints online with the same issue.

On city streets, when my vehicle was in motion and I tried to stop at a stop sign or traffic light, the brakes on my vehicle have failed to stop on more than 20 occasions. After pumping the breaks and pushing the break to the floor several times, the breaks would start working again. I took the vehicle in to the dealer to check the breaks in December of 2016, and the dealer indicated they couldn't find anything wrong with the breaks.

Attempting to slow down on a city street for a right turn, the brake pedal went almost to the floor without response. As I was not going too fast to begin with, I was able to slow down enough to make the turn safely. I crept to the nearest tire center and the ABS system was diagnosed as the problem. The car was taken to the dealer for replacement of the ABS actuator.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While quickly depressing the brake pedal to make an emergency stop, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to immediately stop. The driver had to pump the brake pedal a second time before the brakes operated normally. The contact indicated that the failure did not occur when braking under normal driving situations. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (auto-nation Nissan in pembrook pines, Florida) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder was faulty. The master cylinder was replaced, but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was later diagnosed that the ABS actuator was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 93,000.....updated 06/21/17

2009 Murano le with AWD. Lost brake pedal pressure after ABS activation August 2016 with 72,600 miles on it. Purchased used from new car dealer with 22K miles on it 02/02/2011. I turned into a parking lot and drove over a speed bump at about 10 mph another car pulled in front of me and I hit the brakes and ABS was activated. The brake pedal was soft and went almost to the floor. I pumped the brakes and the pressure returned to normal. The brakes responded normally for a couple weeks until I braked hard to avoid another car and the ABS braking again activated and the pedal went to the floor. After that the brake pressure did not return although I could stop by pumping them repeatedly. I took the vehicle to mossy Nissan poway and they diagnosed the problem as a defective ABS actuator and ECU which was not covered under warranty although it has been a common problem with AWD Muranos. Part was $1822 and labor $560.

Brake pedal went all the way to the floor after hitting a bump in pavement. Turned vehicle off and was able to restore braking. This happened multiple times with first incident in April 2015. Vehicle was taken to Nissan dealership on various occasions. Was kept overnight but mechanics could not duplicate problem. Was told they had no other similar complaints. In September we took to mechanic who suggested new master cylinder. Worked temporarily. January had another incident after having to hit brakes hard, had no brakes. Beyond frightening. Went back to mechanic and he wanted to replace ABS but only Nissan could make repair. Back to dealer and spent $2800 replacing ABS. Believe it should not have been this difficult for them to diagnose problem. Spent a year feeling unsafe, never knowing when brakes might fail.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. As a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact received injuries to the left arm and hand, which required medical attention. The contact drove home with the hazard lights on because the vehicle was only able to decelerate instead of coming to a full stop. Once the contact arrived home, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that NHTSA was conducting an investigation for the year, make, and model vehicle regarding the brakes failing; however, a recall had not been issued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

On 2 June 2017, I was driving East on jimmy lee parkway in hiram, Georgia. As I was approaching intersection of jimmy lee parkway and metromont drive, I was three to four car-lengths from the SUV in front of me that was stopped at red light; therefore, put on my brakes to stop. Traffic was very light and moving slow due to the red light. However, when I put on my brakes, my brake pedal seemed to had slipped and went all the way down to floor board. Regardless, my car continued to move ' never stopped. When I realized that my car was not going to stop, I panicked and braced my left hand on the steering wheel. On impact into the rear of the SUV that was sitting at the red light, my left hand took the entire impact of the accident. Consequently, my hand is currently swollen to double its normal size. The accident resulted in rear-end damage to the SUV stopped at the red light and extensive front-end damage to my 2009 Nissan Murano. Police officer was not aware of my brakes. It was never discussed at the accident scene. As a matter of fact, he cited me for ''.following too close'' ' which is inaccurate and was never the case. However, he instructed me to drive home slow with my blinkers on due to the damage to my front hood area. As I was driving, I carefully and deliberately stayed at least 10-20 car-lengths behind the vehicles in front of me due to brake situation. Because, when I put on the brakes, the brakes continued to slip to the floor-board; but the SUV would only slow down and not fully stop. I purposely drove slow enough with my blinkers flashing so as to be fortunate enough to have all green lights all the way home. When I finally arrived at home, the steep incline to my driveway stopped my SUV enough to stall at my garage door. An us gov investigation was launched May 2015....updated 06/13/17

My front brakes are squeaky. Even after having my brakes regularly serviced with pads and rotors the brakes still squeak. Their have also been times when I stepped on the brake but the car did not slow down as expected. I had to pump the brakes to re-engage them. Once this caused me to roll into an intersection which luckily no other cars were near me. Now my front left wheel has started making loud swooshing and screeching noises. The faster I drive the louder the noise gets. The squeak in the left front tire is also present when driving in neutral. I have an appointment to get the car serviced on Wednesday. Even after servicing it makes me nervous that my car is not safe.

When I'm on a city street or highway driving and hit a bump while I break I lose my break pressure. The pedal goes completely to the floor and I can't stop. This is about the third time it has happened. I have to pump my break for them to work a little. But they still start to go down and the pedal is to the floor when it final stops completely. The most recent time my breaks went out was Friday May 19, 2017. I was driving on a city street the car in front of me was stopping so I started to press down on the break. When I was doing that I hit a bump and lost my breaks. There was no pressure. The pedal went down to the floor. Since its happened before I pumped my breaks almost hitting a truck in front of me and a parked car to the side of me because I was trying to avoid hitting anyone. I have taken it to be fix and first time was told my breaks weren't bled enough but it still happens. I won't drive on the highway anymore because I'm afraid my breaks won't work and cause a really bad accident. Possibly hurt or kill myself or someone else. Please look into this issue. I would like to drive without having heart attacks because of my breaks losing pressure and not be afraid of driving.

Murano

  • 160,000 miles
Brakes lose pressure after hitting bumps or slick spots in the road regardless of surface street or highway conditions. Attempting to break causes the brakes to be completely depressed to the floor of the vehicle and braking distance is dangerously increased. Removing the ABS fuse and replacing it will temporarily remedy the problem.
