It started around July 2011 when I sent my car for a transmission flush as per manufacturer recomendation when the car was 75000 miles. The mechsnic told me after a brief inspection that I have to change the radiator as the coolant had mixed with the transmission fluid. They showed me the white sticky coolant from the radiator. So I asked them to change the radiator that had cost me about $800. It was all fine until 2/2/2012 I was driving on highway and all of a sudden the car wont accelarate and on pressing the gas pedal the car whines and moan and groan, the rpm meter goes all the way up but the car speed is decreasing. I stopped aside and turn the car off and started again. Since then it only shift up to third it wont go to fouth or fifth gear and a squaking noise on reverse. I sent the car for check up yesterday 2/7/2012 and the first thing they checked transmission fluid. The smell was like the fluid was burning and they will have to take it apart and analyse the problem but they assured me according to the history I gave them, the smell of the fluid and the known information about 2005 Nissan Pathfinder it would cost me around $2500 and they will have to have the car for a week which means I will have to rent a car for a week so that I can go to work.

on 2/1/12, I had one incident when my car was stopped and when i accelerated it gave me a push/pull slow to move. on 2/2/12 the same thing occurred multiple times. My check engine light eventually came on and then my car eventually would not accelerate after being stopped. I towed it to Midas, who said they were unable to fix it. I brought it to Lee Miles Transmission and they told me the radiator fluid mixed with antifreeze fluid causing corrosion and contamination within the transmission. this is costing me a lot of money to repair the car.

coolant has leaked into transmission. Didn't know this was a problem with 2005 Nissan pathfinder until this happened to us. It is complete and total GREEDY ASS BULLSHIT THAT NISSAN WONT DO A DAMN THING ABOUT IT!! They wont recall it because they say it aint a safety hazard (MY ASS)!!! While driving it feels like it slips out of gear, in heavy traffic, that is definitely a safety hazard. NISSAN CAN SUK IT!! And I hope they have people that read this. And everyone needs to send them a very nasty letter.I sure am. I served our country for 4 years, and these Nissan people are COWARDS

I had the transmission serviced at 120,000 miles, no problems.. Nissan has been aware of this problem for quite some time and has not acknowledge their defect in the transmission. Myself like most people these days do not have $4500 laying around. And if this is a problem that is happening in a large number of vehicles Nissan needs to cover the cost. It is also a safety hazard as it loses forward propulsion and can cause an accident in heavy traffic. I will never buy another Nissan and will tell everyone I know about this problem and how Nissan has denied coverage.

Around December of 2009 I realize my heater was blowing cold air so I had my mechanic check it out and found that the radiator was not working properly. He filled it with fluid and that was the end of that. The heater would work sometimes and sometimes it didn't. I didn't think it was a major issue. This January 2012,I noticed my car not pulling when I got on the highway or drive at high speed. It seems as though the transmission was slipping. I took it to a mechanic today and found that I need to replace my transmission. I started doing research and found that this has been a major issue with Nissan Pathfinders. I am so disappointed in Nissan. I have the Preferred Plus Maximum Warranty up to 100,000 miles. My car has over 129,000 miles now. Had I known this was the problem, I would have had this taken care of in December of 2009.

I have never owned any nissan car before, but guess what this time a devil sneaked into my mind and altered my thoughts toward buying a nissan car and it happened to be 2005 pathfinder, the worst car in the world. I just bought this car in August of 2011 never aware of any design flaw with this car. I paid $ 6700 to buy it and after two weeks one wheel bearings got broken so I took it to my mechanic and it cost me 700 to replace. A month later the steering wheel became a problem because the rag was gone so I had to pay another $1300 to fix. Now two weeks before the XMAS of 2011, the devil openly announced its intention to ruin my family plans: the radiator has leaked into the transmission and there is no any solution except replacing both. Do you folks expect a Japanese car having a trans problem on its seventh birthday

I have never had a car with a transmission problem and this is the first. Two days before Christmas 2011 on my way home from the office my car begins stuttering and a burning smell fills the interior of the car. I managed to get the vehicle to the nearest repair shop, a Midas shop. I had no way of getting this vehicle to a Nissan dealership as neither option was close enough for me to make it. I was lucky not to have caused an accident. The Midas shop told me in 10 minutes what the issue was with the vehicle. They asked me if I recently had the car serviced and I said yes. The Midas shop contacted the Nissan dealership and they confirmed what work had been done on the vehicle. On December 7, 2011, I brought the vehicle in to Nissan to have them look at a couple of oil leaks from the front of the vehicle. After 3 hours they did an oil change and advised me that they had to replace an oil ring. They suggested that I get the transmission oil flushed. Normally this means I have a little time to do this so I figured I will be on vacation in 2 weeks so I will wait till then. Being the Holidays, I had the Midas shop go ahead and see what they can do to fix the vehicle. I contacted Nissan customer service and advised them on the issue and that I always bring my car to Nissan for all repairs, there should be file on me 2 miles long. At no time was there any mention by the Nissan dealership of this cracked radiator issue nor was there ever a recall notice sent to me. After speaking to 2 different people over 4 days, I was advised that my car was outside the warranty due to being over 80k and they could not do anything about it. By my calculation, extending the warranty by 6 years should have also extended the mileage to well over 100,000 miles. I asked the Nissan customer service rep if even tried to contact the Nissan dealership or the Midas shop to confirm the issue. Without even hesitation, the answer was NO. Basically the attitude given to me was it is your problem. What kind of customer service is that????? Not even a sorry, let me see what I can do for you, let me meet you half way since you are not having the car serviced at a Nissan dealership. Nothing................. It took over two weeks to get my car back. I am still out $5000.00 which I was working on saving for a new car.

Major issues with 2005 pathfinder, problems started very early. Experienced the radiator issue at only 56,000 miles. Had the radiator replaced at own cost and now suffering with replacement of TCU unit and a possible transmission rebuild. Nissan USA is not dealing with this problem effectively. Countless complaints for the same problem but a recall has not been issued. If only Nissan could take action like Toyota and save a lot of future customers.

I bought this pathfinder new. The first thing to go was the fuel gauge , next was the ECM relay and now the transmission. In each instance they are known problems with the SUV and Nissan issues a warrenty that is millage dependent so that it will only include the SUV if you hardly ever drove it. All I can say is that I will NEVER, EVER, EVER buy another new Nissan. Not because of the problems, but because of the companies lack of concern and caring for their product. This forum is my first stop and I will continue to let this issue be known to everyone who will listen. Thank you!

I am not at all happy with the performance of my Nissan Pathfinder 2005 SUV. Since the day we bought the car, the belt made a annoying noise while starting the car. Took it to dealer several times but they could never fix it. Once the car had around 60,000 miles it started shaking like crazy at high speed above 60 on highway. Discussed the problem with dealer and spent lot of money and they could not fix it. Recently the car started accelerating too much whenever we press the gas pedal. Took it to the dealer and they said the radiator had leaked which resulted in failure of transmission. Since my car had over 80 K mileage the repair was not covered under warranty so I had to pay around $5000 to get the radiator and transmission fixed. After paying so much money the car still doesn't run properly and occasionally has acceleration problem. I am frustrated and need Nissan to take care of my expenses and fix my car as soon as possible.

I've never had a problem with this Pathfinder, or any other Nissan I've owned until now. I was getting some vibration when going over about 60 mph, and took it to the shop. They test drove it and said it feels like the transmission. They pulled the pan, and it's full of what looks like a strawberry milkshake. The radiator has cracked and drained into the transmission. It's shot, and needs to be replaced. Nissan has pretty much told me there's nothing they can do about it. According to Jeff Wyler Nissan, one of the biggest dealers in Cincinnati, they've "only seen 2 of these, and both were under warranty" I'm calling BS on them big time. I talked to a very good transmission shop locally, and they've repaired several of these, which had been to that very dealership and were told there was nothing they could do about it. My choices are to replace the radiator, flush the hell out of the transmission, and hope it lasts as long as possible before replacing it....or replace it immediately, at the tune of over $4000. It is absolutely criminal that Nissan has allowed this to happen. Extending the warranty to 80,000 miles on the tranny is a joke. They should have recalled every one of these and replaced the radiator as soon as they knew about the problem. From everything I've read here and on other sites, most of the go out after the 80,000 mile mark. Shame on Nissan for ignoring a very loyal customer base. They will regret this more than they know, and I sincerely hope that the class action lawsuit goes through so that they can be held accountable for their actions.

Same problem as everyone else. My wife's 2005 Nissan Pathfinder transmission started making grinding and bumping noises. We brought it to the Nissan dealership in Lafayette, La for a diagnostic. Amazing thing is that they actually looked us in the eye and acted as if they had absolutely no idea what the problem was!!! Instead, they asked me if I had added anything to the radiator or the transmission because both had discolored fluid. We just had a tropical storm over the weekend down here in Louisiana so when the Tech mentioned to me that the tranny fluid appeared milky, I thought it sounded like it may have water in it, and that the transmission might be cracked, etc. I just happened to google "2005 Nissan Pathfinder transmission issues" and was absolutely floored when I read the hundreds of write-ups about this same issue online. When the service lady called me later today to give me the $6,000.00 estimate for the replacement of the tranny and radiator, I casually asked her if she was aware of the pending class action lawsuit against Nissan for the problem that I'm sure we're having with our vehicle. THEN, she informed me that they were familiar with the problem, but of course, until they get the tranny dissected they can't be absolutely sure that's the problem with our vehicle. I kindly asked her if she wanted to bet a box of cigars, which she wanted no part of. Now I'm just trying to decide whether to have the vehicle fixed, or drag it out into the parking lot of the dealership and set it on fire...

I took my car to the dealership in June 2011 due to my car vibrating. They said it was the tires - balance/rotate. The problem continued. Then my car would not shift gears during acceleration. I took it to a repair shop - coolant had leaked into the transmission. Now I have to replace the radiator, transmission and controller. I googled the problem only to find others with similar problems and Nissan is ignoring this! I hope the class action suit moves forward. Shame on Nissan!

I took my pathfinder in for a ECM recall module and asked them to drive my vehicle because it was shuddering when it tried to shift into overdrive- not to do anything to it that would cost me money! They came back after 2 hours and told me that tax and all I needed $8000.00 worth of work on my vehicle to fix it. They had run diagnostics on it - when I told them not to and charged me!!!! (without asking) They said the coolant line had broke in the radiator and coolant was running thru the transmission. Then tried to sell me a new vehicle with a CVT transmission that would never need service!

The dealership patted me on the back for buying the 2000.00 extended warranty and let me know that I got about 5600.00 worth of new parts out of it--- and wasn't it worth the money!!!!!

Our vehicle was stolen on 5/21/11. Although it was recovered two days later, the front driver and passenger seats were taken. Being that there were no seats, it was towed to the body shop and no one would suspect there would be any transmission problems. Our insurance would cover the costs for brand new seats. $9,000.00! On top of that, the seats needed to be shipped from Japan and would take about a month because of the tsunami problems. After the seats were installed, they found the transmission problems and our insurance agent informed us that it was a Nissan defect and not caused by the theft of our vehicle so they would not cover those repair costs.
