Under normal driving conditions the rear axle seals began leaking and damaged the rear brakes. The axle seals and spacers need to be replaced along with parking brake and rear brake pads.

The most recent occurrence occurred yesterday 11/1/09 as I pulled out of a parking lot and put on my brakes and the brakes began to shudder and a spring like noise occurred. In addition the brakes were soft and scraping sound occurred when applied. This occurred each time I applied the brakes for the next 4miles until I arrived home. The brake light remained on the entire time until I arrived home. I called the dealer and made an appointment for today, Monday. Late Saturday, I had to move my vehicle at home and noticed the brake light was off and the brakes worked normally without any sound or softness.the same thing happened about two years ago. At that time I drove the vehicle to the dealer and left the vehicle with the dealer overnight because it was late in the day near closing.. the next day the dealer said they took the vehicle for a test drive and it reacted normally and "it probably was some dirt/dust in and around the brakes causing the brakes to stick'.. there was no work done on the vehicle. Today, the same dealer looked at my vehicle and ran some tests after I insisted this is the second time the same thing has occurred. This time the dealer found a defective/worn delta speed sensor and recommended to replace the brake booster. They said it is not covered under warranty as the warranty expired 1/1/09.

My brakes appear to make a groan and the brake pedal will shove all the way to the floor before stopping. This happens about once every couple of weeks while driving. I have found that if I pull off the road and restart the truck it appears to reset everything and the brakes are just fine. My truck is a 2004 Nissan Titan that has ~55,000 miles on it. I have no advance warning that this failure is about to happen it just happens without any advance warning.

My 2004 Nissan Titan has been having periodic complete brake failure without warning during normal driving conditions. This has occurred 7-8 times. Started about 25,000 mi, currently at 34,000 mi. Took to dealer on 8-1-09, dealer reprogrammed the computer, said it had something to do with the ABS and vdc controls and that this would fix it, yesterday on 8-22-09 it happened again after normal driving as I was exiting the freeway, very scary. When the problem occurs, if you shut off the vehicle and restart, the brakes are back and seem to be working fine, they can go for a while with no problem, then one day they will just not be there, pumping the brake gives little brake effect and a noise emits from under the hood, a strange sound I have never heard come from a vehicle before, brakes will go to floor and will not stop if held, have to pump like crazy and resort to emergency stopping methods such as E-brake, downshift and rubbing tires against curb or driving into soft sand to stop vehicle. I went online and found this is happening to many other people with Titans and armadas (same exact vehicle mechanically). This is very dangerous, I am used to old cars that have problems, this really catches you off guard. I wish to file a complaint as this vehicle is not safe for road.

2004 Nissan Titan crewcab sle -2 wheel drive. First time this has happened to me, coming to a stop sign I put on the brakes and all of a sudden I had no control of my brakes. Heard loud noises like the ABS was kicking in and out as I applied the brakes harder to get the truck to stop. This continued until I got the truck home. After further research on the internet with Nissan Titan web forums I found that other people have with Titan's have experienced the same problems. From what I gather it sounds like it is the brake booster at fault. Also I found out that once you turn off the ignition the system resets itself and everything seems to be back to normal. I think Nissan needs to look into the brake booster problems that people are having and rectify the problem. Nissan wants $850 or more to replace the brake booster (truck out of warranty). Nissan needs to come clean and realize they have a problem with their Titan's brake booster.

I am a owner of a 2004 Nissan Titan who have had several problems in the past. However, I almost got into a serious accident yesterday, as I had no braking on my rear wheels. After inspecting the rear brakes and why they failed, I noticed that my seals on the rear axel is leaking oil onto my brakes pads.

2004 Nissan Titan brake failure. Power booster sensor is going out and causes mushy and violant brake pedal -- unable to stop safely. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Dealer flashed the brake computer...it did not work. Said that the power boaster needs to be replaced at a cost of $900 plus...I think it should be recalled. Xtreme safety issue. There seems to be a tsb out on it..but no recall. Need a recall...people could be killed.

Rear axle seals leak causing differential fluid to seep out onto the brake rotors. Both front and rear brakes have had problems.

Problem started gradually as occasional noises, such as "clunking" and rattling, from the wheels while driving. Took vehicle in to dealer who could not find the problem. One day later while driving, heard awful grating noise from wheels and ABS/vdc light came on. Took vehicle to dealer who stated that the emergency brake pad broke loose and destroyed the rotor, the ABS sensor, etc. ($1,200 in damage). During the two weeks after service, the brake light has illuminated about 3 or 4 times. When the light is on, the brakes react as if in ABS mode and grip and grind while stopping. Turning off the vehicle usually makes the light go off and the brakes then operate normally. The vehicle is currently back at the dealer, who stated they do not know what is wrong as they have not been able to re-create the problem.

My girlfriend owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. About a year ago the braking system started failing, so I purchased new brakes and no change. The problem continued until I talked to a mechanic and he told me to try the master cylinder. Purchased a new one, no change. Nissan claims there is no problems but when we press the brake pedal it doesn't want to stop. We can pump them a couple of times then it'll start to stop. Nissan won't even take a look at it and the only reply we get from them is "it needs new brakes, or the brake pads are on backwards." We where browsing on the internet and say an article where there was a lemon law and the braking system but Nissan still claims there is no problems with them.

I have 27,000 miles on this truck, I was in 2 times for brake problems the last time they said it was fixed right due to the new brakes. I have the problem again at 27,000 miles and they say warranty is out!! this was under engineered and now its my problem. Also the rear spring shackle broke sending the leaf spring into the bed of the truck denting it. I bought after market shackles and found the other side was cracked.

My 2004 Nissan Titan recently started leaking gear oil from both axles in the rear. Concurrently my brake pads starting absorbing the oil which in turn ruined my rotors, brake pads, and now is costing me a pretty penny to get it fixed. My mechanic said the local auto parts stores do not carry these bearings and seals and therefore must contact the original dealer to order them. After reading and following up on the additional complaints by many other Titan owners, I am curious to find out what steps in Nissan taking to recall these bad seals and bearings" why should us the owners have to fix costly repairs when Nissan knows their production efforts were not properly tested before fielding the dealerships" please inform me how to get it fixed free of cost to me.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact has experienced several failures with the vehicle since the date it was purchased. While driving various speeds and applying pressure to the brakes, the vehicle vibrated and the braking power was lost. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the rotors failed. The vehicle was repaired. The entire braking system (rotors and brake pads) have been replaced three times since the original failure date. When adults use the rear seat safety belts, they become tighter as the vehicle is being operated. The seat belts cause a great amount of pressure to the neck and chest area and have to be released and reconnected for safety. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 38,000.

I bought a Nissan Titan new in may of 2004. Problems with the brakes were immediate. The dealer has replaced the brakes, rotors, etc. A couple of times due to defects. They now say that the brakes are out of warranty so I am doing it on my own and often. This past weekend I almost hit another car because I could not get the truck to stop. I went and bought another set of brakes and rotors. While changing them, noticed that the brakes calipers were cracked and rusted. Had truck towed to Nissan dealer, waiting on a decision from them to see if they will fix them. Truck is under warranty, and extended warranty that I purchased from Nissan. These were suppose to have been replaced by the dealer before, but I don't think they did. I am paying a truck payment every month for a truck that basically sits in my driveway because we are afraid to drive it. We never know if the brakes will work. Nissan doesn't seem to care, even though they have admitted that there is a problem with the braking system design. I fear that someone will be killed if Nissan doesn't step up and put an end to the brake issue.

2004 Nissan Titan - repeated problems with front brakes. Rotors, calipers replaced or resurfaced 5 times. ABS wheel sensors. Currently no emergency brake - Nissan states no adjustments to fix - on occassion front brakes fail to the point the truck will not stop. This happens with out warning. When it happens the brake peddle goes to the floor and you can hear and feel the front brakes vibrating. I have to turn off the truck, wait a few minutes and it will then work fine. There is no warning when this occurs. Brake issues has been a major issue with the truck since the day I purchased.

In July of '08, my wife called to tell me she was having a problem with our truck. She was afraid to drive it, as she reported a brake failure that and was nearly in an accident. She was exiting a parking lot to a busy road. As she approached the end of the parking lot, she braked to wait for a clearing in traffic. She said the brake pedal went to the floor, the truck made a loud rumbling noise, and the truck rolled out to the edge of the busy street until she pumped the brake pedal and stopped the truck. She left it there and waited for me, afraid to move it. I inspected the truck and found no mechanical problems. I figured that there was a fault with the ABS system, which went away after the truck was turned off and the system was rebooted/self tested. On August 22, 2008, the fault returned. My wife backed the truck out of our driveway, and the truck displayed the same symptoms when she tried to stop at the bottom of the driveway. She avoided hitting a parked vehicle on the other side of the street. She left the engine running so as to not reset the ABS computer, and called me out to check the truck. I could find no mechanical fault, and found the ABS fully engaging when pressing the brakes, resulting in very little stopping power. Pumping the brakes cause near full application of braking force, even at light pedal pressure. I determined that it was an ABS issue. Both times the fault occurred, the "brake" light illuminated. Turning off the truck and restarting resolved the problem, confirming my suspicion of a software fault. I searched on line and found a Nissan tsb that addressed the issue. I brought the truck to dirito brothers Nissan in concord, ca to have the tsb applied, which involved a ABS software update. I was surprised and upset to learn that the repair was not covered under warranty, as the software update was considered an "adjustment." I was charged $150 for this service. The service writer stated he saw a number of trucks with the problem.

My 2004 Nissan Titan leaks profusely onto by emergency brakes. My emergency brakes do not work at all on a hill. The Nissan mechanic has pointed this out to me while the truck was up on the rack. He stated that the left rear axle seal was and still leaking. I would have to replace the seal spacer and bearing, for a grand total of $171 for parts, and almost $200 for labor. This has happen repeatedly on all Nissan Titan trucks. There should be a recall on this item. Owners should be compensated for their expenses on such a defective part.

2004 Nissan Titan brake failure/judder Nissan is aware of this issue and has yet to issue a recall. Nissan has several tsb on this issue. The government needs to demand Nissan recall and repair the brake system of these vehicles.
