problem #56

May 092007

Titan 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,300 miles
2004 Nissan Titan 4WD. At 54,000 miles the rear differential gears blew apart while I was driving. This destroyed the rear differential and caused $3000 worth of repairs. The rear axle seals on both sides were leaking at the time the gears failed. Apparently, this was becoming a common problem/defect with most Nissan Titan, though so far Nissan seems to be ignoring the problem. Although the rear end gear failure did not cause an accident I was told by a mechanic that if the gears failed and lock at highway speeds they could cause the rear wheels to lock which could cause an accident.
