The owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel sending unit failed. The fuel gauge would read empty whenever the fuel tank was filled with gasoline. The vehicle was taken to the dealer after routine maintenance and the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 108,000.

Noticed check engine light on dash was on but detected no issues and unemployed so didn't run down to Nissan to pay them $600 to turn out a light. Needed tx inspection sticker about 4 days ago went to get one at nearby jiffy lube and they denied because of "safety or emissions issues" on a code "P0463:fuel level sensor circuit high input". I got home and researched and found that is was quite common problem with Xterras and pathfinders. So common in fact, that previous generation Nissan were actually recalled for a similar issue. The sensor is in the gas tank and only checks the accuracy of the gas gauge. Unfortunately, no recall has been placed on the part for the 2nd gen yet, and so Nissan customers are being forced to have the dealer make the repair to the tune of about $600. What a racket. And without the repair I can't get my inspection sticker, when the worst that can happen is to run out of gas because the gas gauge may not show the correct level in the tank. My gauge is working fine. Since when is even a possible gas gauge problem a "safety and emissions" hazard anyway" racket. The guy at jiffy lube told me it might be sending to much gas thru the engine. What" a blatant lie. So apparently, the system has it that this unemployed person, with barely enough to survive has to either risk a big costly ticket for no inspection sticker or line Nissan's pockets with money I need to feed my family for a faulty part that they have even recalled the prior version of already when my vehicle runs good as it ever did and the gas gauge is working just fine. This is just wrong on so many levels and an injustice and apparently, you folks are the only ones that can bring justice to this situation by forcing them to recall that part they can't seem to get right before they rob more good americans of their limited resources in the racket they have going.

Nissan has had a great # of fuel sensor problems with their line of vehicles. This is a well documented fact. My fuel gauge failed a few weeks back and now reads empty all the time despite filling the tank up. The fuel sensor problem also loads a code which causes the check engine light to stay on- not a good thing if you need to get a state inspection done. Nissan has ignored mine and many other requests to fix this problem. With a sensor that does not work or reads gas levels falsely due to faulty parts Nissan is putting or has put in it's cars this is putting the driving public at great risk. Accidents could be caused due to running out of fuel when you thought you had enough because of this faulty fuel sensor.

2005 Nissan Xterra having gas gauge / service engine light issue. PO463 is the code which means the fuel sender/sensing unit is bad. This is clearly a faulty part issue on Nissan and there should be a recall. There are too many people having this same issue with their 2005 - 2007 Xterras, pathfinders, & frontiers. This is a hazard not knowing how much fuel is in your tank and it is a ridiculous to have to pay $600 to get this fixed when it is a faulty part issue.

I have a 2005 Xterra service. Fuel tank was not 1/4 tank and filled it up - had to stop at the store anyway so I gassed up. Anyway, driving down the road, I looked down and my fuel gauge is on empty and the light on. Interesting, I thought. Then the check engine comes on later. I was thinking some kind of gas pocket or something so I got home and un did the gas cap, and disconnect the battery. Engine light and fuel level still on and the unit is failure to read fuel gauge.

They received from Nissan a letter that said, that the fuel gauge was faulty and that they need to get it fixed, warranty was extended. Mine is not working. Called the dealer, they said I have no warranty, and it seems it is a problem with some Nissan models 2005 and -06.

The fuel gauge is malfunctioning, I completely filled up the vehicle with gas started the engine and it still read empty. It took a couple of days to move up to showing full but now I have a check engine light. I researched this issue and many other Nissan owners are experiencing or have experienced this problem with their vehicle around 50,000 miles. This is an issue Nissan needs to take care of with so many people experiencing the same issue, it is obviously a defect in their manufacturing and is very pricey for the customer to fix!

I own a 2005 Nissan Xterra. My problem started with the fuel leveling system and my check engine light coming on. It was the fuel leveling sender. My fuel was not registering correctly at all. Next came stalling of my SUV. I would be driving and it would act as if it was running out of gas and cut off. That turn out to be the emc, in which I paid for but was reimburse because Nissan issued a recall for the emc. This did not fix the fuel leveling sender problem. A few months later, my SUV was having a "hard crank". it just did not want to turn over. It would stall while driving. I would just cut off. I took that to a dealership and they said it was the cam sensors. So, I had the cam sensors replaced and I had the fuel level sender replaced. It was recommended that I have a mult-point inspection, so I had everything with that replace. I spent a $1000, only for my check engine light to come back on the next day. I took it back to the dealership for them to tell me now it is the catalyst converters and both needs to be replace. The price for both parts alone was $1300. I do not understand why so many Xterra owners are having these types of problems and Nissan are not responsible for fixing them. They will offer an extended warranty after the fact, but by the time the problem occur a 2005 does not qualify for the extended warranty. The catalyst converters affects the clean air for your vehicle. This is a safety issue.

Have 2005 Nissan Xterra and the fuel gauge reads empty or a 1/4 fuel then it shoots up to full. We never know how much fuel is in there. It has been below freezing here in the North and I am scared my wife and kids will be stuck out of fuel someday soon. Multiple complaints: At approx 55K miles, engine would rev out before shifting gears, at approx. 72K miles started vibration when at steady speed (approx 45 mph), so purchased new tires. At approx. 76K miles temperature gauge would fluctuate and vibration and gear slam increased. At approx. 79K miles blower stopped working and temperature gauge would go up and down. At 80,532 mi. Had radiator replaced and coolant flushed and two transmission flushes done, as coolant and transmission fluids mixed due to radiator leaking. Transmission continued vibration and began slamming again 3 mos. Later. 6 mos. Later engine overheated, had towed. Engine was bad due to overheating from radiator assembly fault Nissan describes. Rebuilt engine, new timing chain and timing control valve, and new radiator. Still cannot drive vehicle- severe transmission slamming gears, vehicle stalls when you take foot off gas, oil pressure gauge goes to bottom when foot off gas and up when you depress. Since, Nissan has extended warranty to 80K for radiator assembly can crack and internal leakage of coolant mixes with transmission fluids. I am not covered they say, but if I had been notified of this 2 years ago I would have been. Their letter specifically states that it can occur at "higher mileages". I want Nissan to reimburse me costs incurred and fix my transmission. I have been without a vehicle on and off for 8 mos. Of the past two years, and do not think this vehicle will ever run properly due to their negligence to notify owners of the potential problem. I've seen hundreds of complaints. Also have had engine light go on and off for last 2 years- due to fuel sending unit problem, Nissan has extended warranty for this to 72K. I now have 94K - these issues need to be recalls and owners reimbursed- please investigate warranty extension issue! also had squeaks, battery issue, no start even w/new battery, cleared electronics/radio blown, cds don't eject, driver window won't go up unless pulled.

The fuel sending unit is bad on my 2005 Nissan Xterra it is throwing a P0463 code and after some research I found it an apparent problem in most 2nd generation Xterra's and frontiers. The problem is that the fuel sending unit tells the gauge how much gas is in the tank and since it is now working the gauge is not reading the proper amount of gas which can lead to a accident when the vehicle runs out of fuel.
