Failure of fuel tank level sending unit to accurately report actual fuel level in gas tank. Fuel level sending unit will indicate full fuel, or partial full and then drop immediately to below empty will fuel remains in tank. Nissan currently has a recall campaign (nhsta #10V075000) on the fuel level sending unit for 2006-2008 Nissan Xterras, which provides for the replacement of this part at Nissan's expense. However Nissan denied my claim under this recall stating that my VIN number was not covered under the recall. I indicated that my vehicle was exhibiting the same problem that prompted this recall and that my vehicle should be included since my vehicle obviously had the same defect. Nissan North America refused to include my vehicle in the recall and I have been forced to replace the part at my own expense. Nstsa should require Nissan to include all Xterra vehicles produced by them for the years covered under the recall, especially those that are exhibiting the identical problems which precipitated the original recall, and not allow them to exclude certain VIN units simply because they wish to do so.

2006 Nissan Xterra ses light came on during hot weather while driving, ses code number P0463 fuel sending unit. Filled up tank and gas gauge doesn't work shows 1/2 tank when full, cool weather problem goes away some times, hot weather problem comes back, I never know how much gas I have, Nissan recall doesn't apply to mine due to VIN numbers not matching recall. Nissan Consumer Affairs was no help, bought brand new $30,000+,,75,000 miles now problem started at 71,000. Seems Nissan has a big problem with this issue and is very slow to address it. Poor customer service, danger of running out of fuel as I never know if my gauge is correct.

Fuel-sending unit prone to failure on 2006 Nissan Xterra. Shortly after purchasing my used Nissan the fuel sending unit failed and had to be replaced last fall. Less than a year later and the fuel sending unit is once again sending incorrect readings to the fuel indicator. Even after filling the tank the fsu reads as 3/4 full and does not indicate properly as fuel is used. Nissan has not provided a replacement part that fixes the problem, the replacement component is the same as the one that was installed at the factory and just as prone to failure. This could lead to the dangerous situation of running out of fuel in the middle of a busy road, bridge or rail crossing. Nissan has recalled only selected Xterras, but all 2005+ Xterras use the same part. Nissan says that this issue is a safety concern but has only issues a limited recall when many more vehicles are affected.

2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge misreads current amount of fuel in tank (I currently have a full tank and it reads empty on the gauge) this problem has been happening every time I filled my tank, which is often because I commute over 100 miles a day. I have called Nissan because there is a current recall for the fuel sending unit, which they admit is causing the problems, however my 2006 Nissan Xterra is not in included in the recall meant for 2006 Xterras, causing me to pay for the unit out of my own pocket, which is roughly $400. I see this as a problem since I cannot have an accurate reading on my fuel gauge, it may cause my vehicle to stall in traffic. There are many other Nissan with this same problem.

I own a 2006 Nissan X-terra and currently there is a recall defined for a specific set of vins for a fuel gauge reading malfunction, combined with an illuminated ses light. My vehicle which for some reason is not part of the recall has had this exact failure for over 1 year, as have many other Nissan owners. The problem creates a significant safety concern when you are unable to receive an accurate reading on the fuel level. And now it will not pass a state emissions test, because of the ses light. I have tried to deal with Nissan and every time I discuss the issue with them they explain that it is not part of the recall. I am going forth with a complaint through Nissan and a complaint through the NHTSA to help protect others.

The manufacture dates should be extended since it seems many 2006 Nissan Xterra owners have the same problem, showing that Nissan should take the blame on putting a defective part in their vehicles.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The fuel sensor failed and does not give an accurate measure of the fuel that is in the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where they replaced the fuel sensor at his expense for $375. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would not reimburse him for the repair since the VIN was not a part of the recall. The failure mileage was 30,000.
