The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The contact noticed that when the fuel tank was full the fuel gauge indicated that the gasoline tank was empty. The check engine light was also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the fuel sending unit was defective. The local mechanic advised the contact to have the vehicle repaired by an authorized dealer. The dealer confirmed that the fuel sending unit needed to be repaired. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in recall 10V075000, fuel system, gasoline: Storage: Auxiliary tank. The vehicle was repaired. Report number 6858003 was filed with the manufacturer who stated that they would not offer any assistance with the repair cost. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 90,700.

Having problems with 2006 Nissan Xterra fuel sending unit (fsu). The gas gauge shows erratic readings and the service engine soon (ses) light turns on. I pulled the code from local shop and the unit indicates PO463 error code. On one occasion, the vehicle stalled due to lack of fuel and the contact was unable to determine the fuel level. The dealer advised the fuel level sensor would need to be replaced. However, the dealer advised the contacts VIN was not included in the recall and the contact would be liable for any repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and he was awaiting a response. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure and current mileages were 84,000.

He took the vehilce to the dealer to have it repaired. When the vehicle was returned, the fuel gauge began to malfunction.he had not previously experienced any problems with the fuel gauge before taking it in for the recall. He took the vehicle back to the dealership but the fuel gauge still did not function correctly. He called the manufacturer and was advised to deal with the dealership. When he confronted the dealer, he was told that he would have to contact the manufacturer and they would notify him when he could take the vehicle back in to the dealer. He had not been contacted at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 90,000. Updated 10/27/10.

I contacted Nissan, but they informed me that my vehicle is not a part of the recall and that they cannot reimburse me for repairs; they also informed me that other 2006 Nissan Xterra owners are experiencing the same problem and that they, like me, do not own vehicles subject to the recall. The recall needs to be expanded to include those vehicles.
