  • 116,000 miles
The brake lights illuminates when pedal is not engaged, and goes out briefly when engaged. I became aware of this situation when in for inspection the car failed for the center mount stop light was not working due to burned and melted bulbs and holders. Upon being told I needed to replace the whole unit, I took upon myself to get the aftermarket bulb holder and fix myself. Upon completion it became know as to the lights brake light turning on when pedal is not engaged. Changed brake switch, problem still continued. Seek info on internet and came upon former recall, and recent complaints. Called GM dealer and was informed there is nothing they can do to fix the problem. This is a safety issue and reason for bulb holders melting is from heat from being on all the time.

The mileage is a rough estimate because I don't remember exactly what it was but this all started in the fall of 2011. My brake lights are working in reverse. When the brake pedal is pressed my lights go off and when I'm not pushing the brake pedal the lights are on. The dealership did the recommended service by putting the lubricant on the brake module. It worked fine for about 4 months by then my car was no longer under warranty so I was not going to pay the dealership to do the service. My dad replaced the whole module and again it worked fine for another 6 months. When it happened again my dad put lubricant on it again, worked fine up till this past May. My dad is going to take a look at it again. I'm scared to drive in this car for fear of being rear ended due the lights no working.

I was attending my aunts funeral in hackensack, NJ. I reside in Maryland, so its about a 5 hour drive for me. Half way there, my sister called me and asked why was I riding my brakes. I told her, I was not riding my breaks. She informs me that my brake lights flash all the time. I could not believe her. Coming home from the funeral, we witnessed the same thing. Then several days later, I could not get the car out of park. I had to sit at foodlion for about twenty minutes, before I was able to get the car in gear. I called GM 800-620-7668 and tried to issue a complaint. I was told there was no recall. But I happen to see this issue all over the internet. My issue is still occurring, again I called GM and I was brushed off. I feel this issue should be corrected by GM and not my bank account.

I am so frustrated with this car. There was a recall for the same year model my car is for the exact same issues I'm having (recall #80317 summary: GM is recalling 8,012 my 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The brake lamps may not operate properly because of corrosion in a wiring connector. Corrosion in the connector could cause the brake lamps to illuminate when the brake pedal has not been depressed, or the lamps may not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. In addition, the cruise control may not engage, and greater brake pedal force may be required to shift the vehicle out of park. Consequence: Brake lamps that are not operating properly may not warn a driver in a following vehicle of the braking status and could lead to a crash without prior warning.) and I have been trying to get it fixed for almost 3 years now and no one will help me. I take it to the dealership and they inform me that my VIN is not part of the recall and send me on my merry way with no help or other solutions but I'm having the exact same problems and I'm to the point where I'm scared to even drive the thing and this is my only way of transportation. Mine is the 2006 2 door GT I'm not sure which models were involved in the original recall but this one needs to be looked into as well. Every vehicle I have owned has been a GM and I've never had any problems until this one and it has really put a bad taste in my mouth. If I could get rid of it right now I would.

When I am driving my vehicle, the brake lights are on as if I am pressing the brake. However when I press the brakes to slow down or stop, the brake lights turn off. When I start my vehicle and the vehicle is in park, the brake lights of my car are on as if I've pressing the brakes. However, again once I actually do press down the brake pedal, they turn off. So my brakes are on when I'm not pressing the brake pedal at all, and are off when I am pressing the brake pedal.

I noticed my brake lights were on when I wasnt using the brakes and went off when I pressed the brake pedal and sometimes the brake lights just flash on and off when the brakes aren't being used. This has been an ongoing, very frustrating, not to mention dangerous problem, especially at night! I contacted the manufacturer and since my vehicle wasn't made at a particular location, it didn't fall under a recall they had previously issued for this very same problem and refused to try to fix the issue. Please have this car manufacturer extend the recall to all 2006 Pontiac G6 vehicles.

As many owners of this vehicle are experiencing..trouble getting the vehicle in gear from park, have to step on the brakes to the floor. Brake lights work in the reverse direction and 3rd brake light stays on when foot is not on the brakes..help please..this is a matter of safety and may cause injury or death..my VIN number was not listed on the GM recall. My VIN number was about 1,000 cars after the recall.I am going to a GM dealer and I have been told a new brake pedal comes with the brake sensor..I do not want to throw a ton of money not knowing the exact problem.

Drivers headlight went out. Replaced bulb. 3 days later bulb out again. Took back got new bulb. 3 weeks later pass headlight went out. Took for replacement bulb. 1 week later bulb on passenger went out again. Got another replacement. 2 weeks later, drivers side went out again then came back on next day. Took to mechanic who said there are major problems with the wiring harness on these cars. Take to a GM dealer. I now have no head lights at all and GM will not back the issue saying it is not a "safety issue". how can no headlights not be a safety issue. What if they go out while you are driving at night? I have read on GM forums there is a known issue with this vehicle. The wiring harness is faulty and the headlight connector melts.
