Rear brake lights fail to turn off even when you are not using the breaks. The rear brake lights stay on even after you turn the car off. The only way to get them to turn off is to pump the brake until they turn off. People driving behind you do not know if you are stopping.

Brake lights are working in reverse to the required operation. Apply foot pressure to the brake pedal and tail light go out. Remove foot from the brake pedal and the brake lights illuminate. This is causing constant near rear end collisions and immediate road rage from other drivers.

I was recently informed that my brake light was illuminated while I was driving. The light went off when I stopped the car. That problem also affects the cruise control. The cruise control is not working because the brake light is illuminated. Or the cruise control disengages after a while without me applying the brake pedal. I had the brake switch replaced twice but that was not the problem. When I surged the internet I found numerous G6 owners with the same problem. I called GM to question the recall and was told that my VIN number wasn't part of the recall. I would need to go to the dealer and have to pay for the repair. I don't think it is right from GM to include only a handful of cars in the recall when obviously other cars same year same model have exactly the same problem. The internet is full of postings complaining about the same issue.

The rear brake lamps illuminate without the brake pedal being depressed. Depressing the brake pedal causes the brake lamps to shut off completely. While the lamps are illuminated, the cruise control is not able to be engaged. This issue has the same symptoms as GM recall no. 80317, but my VIN falls outside of the recalled range.

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6, the brake lamps stay on when the brake is not depressed and turn off when the brake is depressed. I went to 2 dealers and have seen many complaints online. They tell me that this is not a mfg defect. Maybe not but it is surely a hazard. This effects my cruise control and prevents it from working because the brake switch sticks as if the brake is being used. I had the brake switch replaced once before but it is happening again. Is there not some recourse for the repair. This has happened about 7 times over the last 6 months.

The brake lights on my car only work properly on an intermittent basis. The brake lights come on when the brake pedal is not engaged and the brake lights will stay on at times when the brake pedal is no longer engaged. The cruise control will also just disengage while driving down the road or fail to set a speed when trying to set. There is a current recall on this exact problem with cars like mine. However, GM claims that my vehicle is not included in this recall as the defective part/issue is not on my vehicle according to the VIN number issued.

I previously leased a 2005 Pontiac G6, and loved the car very much. Through my lease, I just had one issue, which was covered under the warranty. Since the return of that lease, I purchased a 2006 G6 because I really enjoyed the car. However, I am now experiencing the same issue with this car as well. The issue is regarding the brake lights. The brake lights will illuminate without pressing the brake pedal. The danger occurs when fellow drivers are unaware if the brakes are truly being pressed. With the 2005, this problem progressed where I actually pressed the brake lights would actually go off, which was extremely dangerous. I assume that since I have owned two cars, and both have now had this problem, that it is a wide-spread issue. So, I conducted some research, and found that appears to be the case. I found information regarding a recall on this issue on several websites, noting that the recall began in February of 2009, and also provided information to call Pontiac about it. Upon calling this number, there were no recalls found regarding my car. I found it troublesome that I found recalls in research, but nothing was issued through Pontiac, so I E-mailed them about the issue on 08/05/09. They responded with a phone call to inform me there was no recall on my car. Since it is a very serious problem, I have been waiting since for a recall; however there has not been one issued as of yet, so I am hoping this information might help. Some of the recall information that I found was at the following locations: www.internetautoguide.com/auto-recalls/09-int/2006/Pontiac/G6/index.html (recall id# 69074) www-ODI.NHTSA.dot.gov/recalls/results.cfm (NHTSA campaign id number: 09V036000).

I was driving my grandparents in my 2006 Pontiac G6 and while on the highway my power steering suddenly stopped working. Fortunately I was able to get off and right to a repair shop but this is an extremely unsafe problem to have. I've begun looking into common problems with this car and it seems there are a few other common problems that make this car unsafe to drive and give it a guaranteed expensive repair bill. The interior lights have also apparently shorted out and I will now be checking for a common problem I have heard in which the brake lights may be on even when the brakes are not being applied due to corrosion of a wire. These problems are very serious and could easily cause accidents, especially for a 20 year old first time car buyer like myself.

When I arrived at work, a person who had been following me drove up and informed me that the brake lights on my 2006 Pontiac G6 came on while I was driving and went off when I applied the brake. The cruise control also didn't work. I subsequently found out that there is a recall for 8012 Pontiac G6S (NHTSA campaign id number 09V036000) for the same problem. For some reason, my 2006 G6 isn't one of those vehicles. I had to pay 254 dollars at a GM service center to have the problem repaired. I'm curious why my G6 isn't also covered by the recall as it obviously suffers from the same '!@#$% design..
