2006 Pontiac G6 my power steering cuts out when I'm driving. It will not come back on till I shut car off and restart. Sometimes it takes maybe 6 or 7 restarts to free up powersteering. It is hard to pull over and get out of traffic to do this. This is very dangerous.

I have my Pontiac G6 for a little over 2 years now. Nothing but steering problems. There is a load clunking sound that happens when your turning, braking, or just driving. There has been many times I have almost be in accidents due 2 the steering. I got a letter say the recalled the power steering pump, but that's not the problem. This car is very unsafe. People are going to get hurt or killed if the steering problems are not fixed. It seem that's what got to happen first in order to get something done. Please have the GM company fix there cars....before its to late.

On May 30, 2011 I ([xxx]) was driving West bound on interstate 90 / U.S. 20, between the I-39 South exit and the South alpine exit. At approximately 17:30hrs. My 2006 Pontiac G6 lost it's power steering. I had very little control of the vehicle at this time. So I immediately exited at the S alpine exit wondering if the vehicle could make it. I was able to pull into the phillips 66 gas station upon my exit from the highway. There I waited for a tow. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Mild clunking when steering at low speed. Can be felt in the steering wheel. Had suspension checked and tie rod ends. All are not the source of the noise. Suspect steering rack but car only has 64K. This seems to be a common complaint as well as NHTSA has a tsb listed from 03/01/2008 #060232007 as well as a possible loss of power steering problems which I have not experienced yet.

About a week ago, I was driving at about 50 mph when my steering wheel locked up and I could not move it at all. I managed to pull over. The radio screen flashed and dinged "power steering" I called my husband who came and saw there was no power steering reservoir. Turns out its electric. After turning the car on, it seemed to be back to normal. This happened a few times since then, now my car is stuck permanently. As soon as I turn it on, it says "power steering" and will not resolve no matter how many times I turn it on and off. Horrible car!!

I have a 2006 pointiac G6, I had a letter about the steering but I have miss placed it. It stated that if my steering went out have it checked. Well I was on the highway with my granddaughter and I went into the other lane infront of a truck and guess what the steering would not move. I called a dealership in mn and they said until my car stops all together they could not fix it; I have my grandchildren with me quite frequently I guess they want to fix it when something happens to my grandchild or myself I don't think so; please tell me what to do before someone gets hurt and I don't want it to be anybody. Also, I have replaced the rotors, brakes all four tires in the fall of 2010 in the beginning of 2011 I had to have them fixed. Well I have to go and have them fixed again I have never had a car like this in my life, I am a 65 year old single woman and I hate that this car is so badly constructed no wonder people do not buy american cars. Please tell me what to do about my brakes, thank you.

Electric steering assist kicks in and out. Steering wheel turned hard to the left on its own while I was going down the highway at 65mph. It took both hands to take back control. Power steering light blinked on the radio. When I stopped the wheel was making clicking sounds and turning violently to the left and right. After restarting the car the steering temporarily went back to normal. I have been have similar problems with the steering for the past year. Took to the dealar showing them bulletin # 10183 describing the exact problem for 2005 and 2006 G6's but they did nothing stating my VIN # was not in the affected range. This is extremely dangerous and will kill someone.

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 and loved it til I started having power steering issues. Come to find out it has electric power steering pump, which was not disclosed at time of purchase. The computer system in the car is failing causing the loss of the power steering pump. Its bad enough I have to pay the car every month but now to have to pay for this additional replacement as the warranty is up, is just not feasible. It is a safety issue and can cause an accident, but it is my only transportation. Hoping they aren't waiting for a fatality before they issue a recall.
