I purchased my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am used. I've had it 3 years and have had break problems for at least 2 of the 3 years. My mechanic can not find any reason why I've had so many problems and when I spoke with Pontiac headquarters they informed me that since I did not have a documented case through a car dealership there was nothing they could do. I informed them that my private mechanic kept detail records but Pontiac informed me that even if I did use a dealership the problems I'm having are part of the normal wear and tear of a vehicle. My breaks have been grinding, squealing, thumping and now the whole front end is creaking. I've gone through several pairs of breaks front and back. I've gotten new rotors, have had the rotors cut. I've gotten new calipers but this still hasn't fixed my problem. At times I feel I am riding in an unsafe vehicle. My car has been looked at one month and less than 30 days later my brakes will be fully worn down. I just don't know how to have the problem corrected. On top of it all, the ignition has been changed, the drivers side seat springs are coming through the seat, the radios volume will go up and down for no reason, I've had to replace the whole turn signal / hazards signal part, the trunk leaks and of course none of it is under warranty. I still have a little over a year left to pay on the vehicle and Pontiac could care less.

1. (all lights) twice I have been left without any lights at night. Suddenly, all interior lights go out, and blinkers cease to work. The only lights that remain operating are the headlights.... then additionally, I have the problem with the blinkers and hazard lights. And when it rains, the blinkers cease working. 2) the dashboard light that indicates the time and radio station information fades out. Half of the number shows. I.e. the number "0" will look like a small "U", or a numberr "5" will look like a small backwards "C"... I returned to greenbrook Pontiac about this problem and was informed that nothing had been posted about it and they were unaware of a resolution to the problem. It has been occurring since approximately 8 months after purchase of vehicle.

When using the turn signals consumer noticed that the turn signals would work intermittently. The hazard light also worked intermittently. If the dash were tapped above the flasher button, it would sometimes make the turn signal begin to work. When the key was turned in the ignition the trunk lid immediately opened and a security message was displayed on the dash. Once the trunk lid was closed the car would not start. A later attempt to start the car was successful, however after shutting off the car, the next attempt opened the trunk lid again. The left front window quit working around the same time that the turn signal started to act up.

This car has had one eletrical system failure after anothere caused the following problems:1) terminals in the tail light assembly are not greased and have rusted away. Hence turn signals and brake lights do not work.2) all four back up lights do not work at all. 3) the 5 speed heater/ac blower only works on speeds 3-5. 4) engine power surges in cold weather.5) service engine lights, ABS light, traction control off light and check engine light all come on and go out without reason. 6) on one occasion the car stalled while cruising at 65mph. Once I got it to the side of the road, I was able to retart the engine and continue driving. 7) fuel regulator sometimes leaks, causing a gas oder in the cabin. 8) the volume control on the radio doesn't work. I am listing the number of failures as 730, because every day during the last 2 years at least one of these things has happened.

On my 2000 Grand Am the turn signals will work ok for a while then they will stop. At this time the hazard warning switch also will not operate. Since this problem was started "both" fog lights will not come on (both has been checked out twice and can find no problems). Now the power door switch on the driver side will work off and on along with the keyless remote (the only way to lock and unlock door is manually). All these problems started about the same time. I noticed there is a recall #03V327000. Spoke with GMC today and was told that it would be maybe April before letters would be sent and they were not sure my vehicle would be included. This is the second complaint regarding this vehicle. In 2003 I tried to get rotor replaced while auto was covered under warranty. I had a repair shop tell me it was bad rotor that caused pads to go bad. GMC advised me to take it to a dealer (were purchased it). Dealer said no the rotor was ok but the pads were bad which made the rotor go bad. This recall notice was vsg19990282. However because dealer disagreed with repair shop I had to pay for the repairs. I wrote to GMC on April 9, 2003 and never received a reply.

The turn signals only work some of the time. I can turn the hazards on and this fixes the problem most times till I try to use the turn signals again. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find a problem. My mechanic has looked at it, witnessed the problem, but can't determine the cause. Both the fuses and relay have been replaced to try to fix the problem. It seems to be worse when it rains or is damp out.
