The steering makes a loud creaking noise when the steering wheel is turned left or right. The crecking noise is louder when the car is driven further otherwise the noise is intermittent.

When turning to the left, the steering wheel stiffens/locks into a certain postion. This usually happens at low speeds. I feel that this presents a safety hazard due to the fact that I cant complete a turn in the manner I need. This has been a noted problem in the '97 to '99 model year Grand Prix.

The steering has hung up (lack of power assist) turning left at slow speeds (3) times. Worked O.K. after it popped. It has popped (3) other times when vehicle has been started with little or no movement of the vehicle.
