The passenger seat air bag occupant sensor has failed, disabling the air bag system. This is a common problem to this car, and a serious safety issue for ourselves and any passengers. We request an investigation and recall to repair this known safety issue. I believe reviewing the GM records for the number of units sold as replacements will reinforce my complaint.

Solstice

  • 52,000 miles
The occupant module sensor (GM part #19124219) located in the passenger seat failed after only 52,000 miles. This module, when faulty, cuts off the passenger airbag restraint system.this is a safety issue. In the lifetime of ownership I only had a passenger in the seat approx 20% of the time so wear is not the issue.on further checking of the 40+ Solstice owners I know, most have the problem.the replacement cost for parts labor and recalibration is between $500 to $800. Most owners ignore it and the fact that half the airbags will not deploy in a crash because of cost. GM is aware of the problem part but apparently does not see it as a safety issue. A one time reprogramming to a "always on" state would be a cheap acceptable fix.

The passenger (service) airbag light has come on and remains on at all times. The light which says that the passenger airbag has been armed no longer illuminates. From the research I have done, it is a problem with the airbag sensor which must be replaced. The part is very expensive and breaks easily. I am worried that not only is there a chance that the passenger airbag may not deploy during an accident but that if I do get the part replaced, it will soon break again. This is a very common problem and I believe this is a major safety concern that needs to be addressed right away! there have been too many complaints about this part, which systematically goes out on every car, for this issue to be ignored!

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac Solstice. The contact stated that while a passenger was seated in the front passenger seat, the passenger side air bag system would not activate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the passenger presence sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed that the replacement passenger presence sensor needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was repaired. Air bag light came on while driving the vehicle. I took the vehicle to have the vehicle scanned to see what the problem was. It was determined that the pps module needs to be replaced. I decided not to do the repair because it was going to be over $800. I am quite upset because the vehicle at the time only had 38,000 miles on it, but was out of warranty ( being over 36 months). Why would a vehicle with only 38,000 miles on it have a faulty airbag module?

Add my complaint to the seat belt light list. GM hiding it's head in the sand again. In August of 2014, my daughter had her ignition switch replaced per the recall notice on her 2007 Pontiac Solstice. A few weeks later, the red air bag light went on along with malfunctioning of the passenger air bag status indicator light. Mileage 61,000. The yellow warning light will not come on when a person sits in the passenger seat! the red airbag readiness light on the instrument panel cluster is on all the time along with the service air bag display on the dic. GM fixed one air bag issue and now another one has surfaced. In reviewing the many articles on the web, there have been numerous complaints to NHTSA about on the airbag hazard on all 06 thru 10 Pontiac Solstices, Saturn sky and various other GM vehicles. The problems with the passenger seat renders it unsafe and may result in serious injury or death in a crash. This problem was reported to GM, they diagnosed same, said it was not related to the ignition switch recall and reported code 1063 - passenger pressure sensor defective. Replacement cost approximately $900. This defect will not allow the airbag to operate if involved in an accident. The cost to replace this sensor is prohibitive and should not fail. The sensor was manufactured in luxembourg, germany (manufacture unknown #br53008361171M8H). This is an inspection issue in some states and where there is no inspection, many people are just driving around with the light on not knowing their bags are inoperative. The defective seat module renders the passenger seat unsafe as the airbag will not deploy which could result in serious injury or death in a crash. Please review the complaints declare it recall. Thank you

My airbag lights suddenly came on and the dealer ship says my airbag module has gone out. Why would a vehicle with only 62133 miles airbag module go out, its been one thing after another, cup holder broke first month I had car, then rear axle recall, ,then ignition switch and god knows what else.I had to replace both door handles and the passenger door was hardly ever used but they broke off from just regular use. Now I am told I need an air bag module, shouldn't that have lasted for the life of the car. That's a safety issue because my airbags aren't working. I am gonna have to fork over 557 dollars not to mention the 92 I just had to pay just to find out why my airbag indicator light is on. I paid over thirty thousand for this car and it should still have working air bags.the company should have to fix it, they took that bail out from me the tax payer.

The passenger seat airbag sensor stopped working. It no longer sensing when a passenger is present in the passenger seat. This seems like a very dangerous problem since the airbag will not deploy on passenger side in a crash. It seems to be a common problem that is well documented, I believe GM should order a recall.

The air bag sensor in my vehicle failed after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($800 to $1,000), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle.

Air bag light come on while driving down the road a few years ago. It was determined to be the passenger presence detection sensor bad. I decided not to do the repair because it was going to be over $800. Today, I stumbled across quite a few forum posts with other people having same problem in their Pontiac Solstice and Saturn skys. There was even a media coverage about it in tn. www.kctv5.com/story/24037545/devices-triggering-passenger-air-bags-repeatedly-recalled?autostart=true&topvideocatno=default&clipid=9559298 I believe there should be a recall. GM has recalled other makes and models for the same issue, but because the Solstice and sky are low production they do not make it on their radar for researching if the recall should be made. I'm sure there are many others like me who have been living with it because the cost is too high to repair.

I just had my ignition changed under the GM/Pontiac recall, and we were driving the car down the highway. My check airbag sensor started flashing on and off intermittently and so did my passenger airbag off light came on each time the check sensor light came on. I did have a passenger in the right passenger seat. The next day I drove the car and the check airbag sensor was on steady. I took my car to my local GM dealer and they stated I had a passenger side airbag sensor failure. The cost with parts and labor was estimated at just under $800. I did check this sensor failure online and there are a lot of complaints regarding this and I believe this should be recalled and repaired by GM.

Passenger airbag sensor stopped working. I had noticed the light/sensor not coming on twice before when I had a passenger in the seat and it should have engaged the airbag sensors. No incidents, no trauma to the car nothing. It just stopped. Now it never comes on and there is a warning message on the dash hud. I've read a lot of similar problems and malfunctions with passenger airbags on other Solstices and Saturn sky cars so I know this isn't an isolated event. Currently at 65K miles and a mechanic mentioned to me that this problem might also cause my driver airbag not to deploy. I'm the only one who rides in my car so this didn't affect me until I heard this.

This light has come on indicating no air bags. The vehicle was parked. I've taken it into the dealer for the recall on ignition switch and replacement keys. They charged me for the diagnosis of a defective passenger present sensor. The part will need to be ordered at a cost of $761 plus labor. My wife does not feel safe riding in the car now. Every Solstice on the forum board reports this same problem.

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac Solstice. The contact stated that the passenger air bag warning light was illuminated. Also, the contact stated that when a passenger occupied the seat, the air bag would deactivate. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The technician diagnosed that the air bag sensor had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
