Vehicle was in automatic drive, not manual. All of a sudden the transmission dropped into 4th gear. I stopped, put the truck in park, and turned the vehicle off. Waited two minutes and turned the vehicle back on. Put the transmission into drive and it stayed in 4th gear and would not come out. Engine light did not come on until after vehicle was turned off and then back on. I disconnected the battery to try a reset and that did not work either. Computer reading stated shift solenoid malfunction. This occurred while driving on the highway with three kids in the truck.

While driving at 60 mph the truck failed to downshift for an incline on the highway loosing momentum. I depressed the accelerator pedal to the floor and nothing happened. At this point I signaled to move onto the shoulder while the truck continued to lose momentum. When I turned the steering wheel, it was difficult to move as if I had lost my power steering too. The brakes worked and I stopped on the shoulder. I placed the truck in park and back to drive: Nothing happened. I placed the truck in park, turned it off, waited a couple minutes and restarted. The transmission and steering now worked. At no time did any warning light appear on the dash. I could have caused a significant pile up on the freeway during rush hour. Since no warning lights appeared on the dash--how do I know what happened--or more likely, how will the dealership find the root cause for this failure. This behavior is dangerous and unacceptable for a 2 year old truck with less than 15K miles. I use my truck to sometimes pull a horse trailer. If this incident happens again while I am towing the outcome will be disastrous. I am now scared to drive my truck.

The transmission upon start up was locked in 4th gear. This is the third event of this type. The first time this occurred the transmission reset after I put the truck in park and restarted it. A trip to the dealership uncovered nothing. The second time was another cold start event with the transmission lockedn 4th gear. It took several restarts to reset but the check engine light was activated. Another trip to the dealership and the cause was stated to be the solenoid pack in the transmission. This was repaired and all seemed fine. Yesterday another cold start and the transmission locked in 4th. I drove the vehicle to the dealership in 4th gear. On the way I monitored the trans temp. It stayed at 86 degrees. The outside temp was 91 degrees. Upon arrival at the dealership a mechanic went with me on a test drive. We returned to the shop and he began a diagnostic. The check engine light was not on. I was told that they believed there was a wiring harness issue and they would order one and replace it. The mechanic told me that he did something and the trans temp jumped from 86 degrees to 160+. there were several fault codes found during the diagnostic. The truck is currently at the dealership being repaired. The tuck has less than 7,000 miles on it. It has the 4.7 engine. The first event was in June 2013, then twice in August 2013.

I was on vacation in smokes going up a hill. I was behind a slow moving car about 25 to 35 mph. When all the sudden my truck starts slugging. It was like it didn't know what gear to get in. It would go high and start jerking then low. Their was a car behind me so finally I just stopped in the road to let the one in front go on. It felt like the transmission was going fall out of the truck. Now it does it just going down the road. I can push the peddle 1/4 way down and it does not respond. It shifts in to a higher gear to soon this transmission in these truck need to be recalled before someone get hurt or killed. You never know what they going to do. Guess its the cause of the vibration at 60 to higher also. I took it to dealer today and they said its all normal. How can it be normal when it was not doing it when I first got it. Guess that is their answer to every problem makes their day easer. We the people of Ram owners need help.can anybody help us we pay to much for those trucks for them to ride like that. And for our peace of mind knowing that we are controlling the truck not the transmission. Don't wait to have it recalled because it might be you that gets hit by a defaulted truck or even worse your kid that is walking into a store. Asking for help before something bad happens. When driving in the snow and slush roads, when the truck turns to the left, the front wheel kicks up snow and slush towards the transmission. This results in snow packing around the shift linkage. The result is the inability to put the vehicle into park. It happened to me 3 different times during the snow storm that night. I had to crawl under the truck to chip away at the build-up of snow and ice. This would seem to be a bit of a safety issue to me. I made several calls to Dodge in reference to this and they haven't heard about it. I have heard of it happening to several other people as well. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I was driving on hwy 59 in houston for about an hour, I noticed a humming sound coming from below the vehicle. I was exiting 59 onto sam houston toll road, when the humming started and then I heard a loud crash. I immediately looked in the rear view mirror, to see if I had hit something and I saw the drive shaft flying through the air. At the time of the incident I was traveling North on sam houston toll road, just North of 59 at 70 miles an hour, I was able to steer the vehicle out of the way of traffic, but as soon as I was clear of traffic the rear end locked up completely. If the back end had locked up a minute before, I probably would have caused a very serious accident. The exit for the toll road is approx. 100+ feet above the lane below, and with the truck skidding out of control I very easily could have gone over the edge. Also, the drive shaft completely separated from the vehicle and went airborne. Had the drive shaft hit a car below, or next to me the damage would have been horrific.

I have a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 big horn with a 5.7L hemi and 6 speed tranny with in 30miles noticed very large flaws in the paint on the hood under the clear coat that I didn't see at dealer at time of purchase do to rain took back the next day and took them 3 days to repaint hood to match soon after getting truck back started putting miles on it and noticed large thuds when truck is slowing down and coming to a stop! also now at 2800 miles I am getting a front end/whole body shake when taking off till I get up to 35-40 mph feels drive line related. At about 1600 miles found tires where all set to 49-50 psi !!! and tires are only rated for 45 psi showing more signs truck did not get its pdi ! could have ended bad being my 2 year old is in my truck a lot! also at same miles found all lug nuts loose ! taking back to the dealer soon as I can to have problems checked out!

Transmission has a very moderate "bump" or jarring thud inside the vehicle after the truck comes to a complete stop from normal driving speeds in city/highway. Took to dealership and they could not repeat concern as I described. This bump is not normal and is not constant or consistent with all stops. Also, truck was towed to dealership for warranty work after 1200 miles. Trucks electrical system went out. Battery was dead and would not start. Unknown problem. Thank you.
