problem #11

2500 4WD 6-cyl

  • 4,500 miles
While driving the vehicle I needed to change lanes and speed up. A vehicle was to my right and infront of me. I had to let off the throttle for a second to let the vehicle next to me pass. As I pressed the throttle to accelerate and pass the vehicle in front of me there was no response from the vehicle. There was at least a two second delay before the vehicle started accelerating. This has happened several times. Sometimes from a stop when trying to turn into traffic. Other times while moving. It seems to happen when the accelerator pedal is depressed and then pressed again within a short period of time.

2500 6-cyl Diesel

  • 2,000 miles
This vehicle has the worst acceleration and take off I have ever noticed. If I had to get out of the way of something, I would not be able too. If not fixed this will defiantly cause an accident. I can't even pull out onto the highway and get up to the same speed as other traffic. When I got in my wreck in June I was trying to pass someone who was driving slow and I could not get around them quick enough and they cut me off causing our vehicle to collide.

There is about a 1 full second delay from the moment you press the accelerator and the moment the truck accelerates. I have read it is just something you get used to and I have tried. I realized how dangerous it really is while visiting my in-laws last month. The street leaving their community exits on to a 45 mph road where the intersection is on a blind curb and overgrown. Several times during my visit I would press the accelerator and during the full second delay, a car would come into my line of sight. I would immediately have to go into evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision. While overgrown blind intersections aren't the norm, they do exit and the delay in acceleration endangers occupants in my vehicle as well as other drivers.

This is regarding the 6.7L cummins engine. Throttle lag from a dead stop such as merging into traffic or crossing a road is dangerous. This lag could very well cause me to get rear ended or broad sided. There is also very significant lag after the gas pedal has been released and then pressed once again. An example is when slowing down when approaching a slower car and then changing lanes and pressing and accelerating to go around the vehicle.

Dead pedal after lifting off throttle completely and then reapplying throttle. Have to wait 2-3 seconds before truck does anything and its not turbo lag. I've tried rolling off the throttle and also lifting off throttle quickly and it makes no difference, there is no response at all from the truck for an unsafe amount of time. Going through intersections it can be scary at times.

2500 6-cyl Diesel

  • 940 miles
Went to make a left turn across traffic at an intersection, started to go then let off the accelerator when I saw another car come from behind a vehicle and speed around it. But then I realized I was in the way of the on coming traffic so I pushed the accelerator down hard complete my left turn and get out of the way of on coming traffic. When I did this the truck didn't go anywhere for a couple seconds, then it went. It seemed to have a delayed lag to the acceleration. I made my turn without having an accident, but the car traveling the other direction did have to slow way down and honk their horn. I have read that this is a common problem with these trucks and now I know first hand how bad it is. I do feel like this could be an issue with safety if a vehicle can not get out of the way of on coming traffic if the accelerator goes "dead" for a few seconds.

2500 6-cyl Diesel

  • 500 miles
When starting to leave a stop sign after accelerating somewhat foot slipped off of accelerator. When I stepped on accelerator again there was a substantial lag (3 or more seconds) until the accelerator began to work again. When I reported same to local dealer I was told that this was how is was designed to work. Problem as I see it: I am pulling out into faster moving traffic and my foot slips off pedal, now I am already engaged in pulling out but my accelerator no longer works, this creates a safety hazard for me and whatever vehicle I am in front of. Solution is to decrease substantially or totally eliminate this lag.traffic. Dealer said this was a complaint they have heard before but so far there was no solution. I am driving a 2500 series pickup that weighs over 7000 lbs. So I can be a serious threat to someone that runs up on me due to the fact that I can not accelerate.
