2007 Saturn Ion. Consumer writes in regard to vehicle electrical problems. The consumer stated the vehicle would lose power and shut down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The service informed the consumer, no chip was found and therefore, the vehicle could not be fixed without a chip notification. The consumer has since traded the vehicle.

I have had trouble with this ignition for years, having to jiggle it to start the car, a key tip broke off from trying to turn it. I also was never contacted about fuel line recall that I had to have repaired and paid for. My engine has also lost power and the engine light has been on for years and they don't know why? I don't feel safe even driving this piece of junk to the dealer.

After my day of driving I pulled into my driveway at my home and put my car into the park gear and continued to remove my key--the key would not turn to off position. It had locked into place. I had to call my husband to come home and help me. He too tried. It would not turn to the off position. The only way we got the car to turn off the engine was to disconnect the battery cables. The key stayed in the on position. I had to contact the GM dealer the next morning -- I had to have my car towed to the dealership in frederick, Maryland. I was repaired and I was charged a total of $512.36 I received a recall letter today March 14, 2014 stating there is a recall 14063 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign id number for this recall is 14V-047 since this has already affected my car and I have paid I am requesting reimbursement.

I was driving home through the Maryland mountains after visiting family for thanksgiving. I was in a line of cars traveling at 70mph, passing a semi, when the engine suddenly shut off without warning. I could barely steer or push on the brake pedal as I had lost power. My turn signals didn't work and I considered putting my hands out the window to wave to drivers warning them of the impending danger. Thankfully the one car behind me must have known something was wrong because he backed off allowing me to coast behind the semi and eventually pull off to the side of the highway. I called my dad immediately and he started googling engine shut off problems and found multiple complaints. When I got home I called my local mechanic and he told me to call the dealer. I called the GM Saturn dealer in town and the person laughed stating he never heard of that before. Unfortunately, at the time, I did not make an official report with any other Agency. But I do have emails that were written to friends explaining the frightening experience shortly after the incident. This car is a 2007 and I didn't purchase the vehicle until 2011! 5 years after GM knew of the death trap on wheels. When I originally researched this car none of these problems came up on my search. It wasn't until I searched for the specific problem (engine shut off) that hundreds of complaints surfaced. I'm lucky to be alive today! I still drive around in this death trap because I can't afford to buy another car. It only has 55K miles on it and I used my savings to pay it off.

After driving my vehicle for approximately five miles, I placed the car in park and turned the key back to turn the vehicle engine off. The key turned back and I was able to take the key out, but the engine did not turn off. I brought the vehicle to a GM dealer and was told the cause of this issue was a faulty ignition lock cylinder assembly. The dealer replaced the lock cylinder, which was apparently not under warranty, but could be related to the recall that GM is now issuing, revolving around the faulty ignition. During this visit, the dealership checked to see why my check engine light was coming on and it was found to be valve assembly at fault in the secondary air system. Could this have been caused from the faulty ignition and having to disconnect the battery to stop the engine, which in turn through the entire computer off in the vehicle" when all was said and done, my bill for parts, labor and tax was $916.98. Less than six months later, the ignition lock cylinder assembly had to be replaced for the second time. Due to it being less than six months, I was not charged for this replacement. Although the vehicle's engine did not stop running as in the current 2014 recall, could this still be related to the same faulty ignition situation"

The power cuts off when hitting a bump/jarring and car loses all automatic features--power steering, power brakes. Especially likely with heavy key chain. Has happened multiple times since I purchased the vehicle in 2009, but more in past two years. Occurs when pulling into driveways of stores, hitting pothole, etc. This is the Saturn "sister" car to the Chevy cobalt ss and of same year at that recent recall.

As I was heading home from work, about 3/4 of the way home on the freeway there was a loud "bang" and a jolt in the car that was immediately followed by a high pitch "squealing" sound. I got off at the nearest exit and took other roads home at approximately 40 mph. The squealing continued the entire way home, but would stop when I had to stop at lights. As I was turning onto my street, a battery light error came on the dashboard and my car simply shut off and would not start. I was towed home and did not do anything to the car for 3 days. On the 3rd day I attempted to jump the car with another car and was able to get the engine to start, but immediately a different check engine light came on and a different loud sound was coming from the engine. The new sound was not the original squealing. After opening the hood, I found a large metal "chunk" was lying on top of the engine cover and a hole had been made from where it came out of the engine bay from. The only thing I can gather is that it may have been caused by a timing chain failure, because the only thing preceding the incident was a very faint clicking sound coming from somewhere beneath the hood.

My wife left work and stopped by the store on the way home, but could not shut the car off. She drove home where the car continue to run until I disconnected the battery cable to finally disable the vehicle. I had the car towed to the dealer. The key could not be removed from the ignition switch. The ignition switch cylinder was replaced, new key coded at a cost of $396.17. Saturn customer service stated that they have had no complaints of such a nature, I have done online searches and have found thousands of the same problems. The issue continues to this day along with the seals around the doors and windows leaking. This automotive company was bailed out by the government with our tax money, only to lie to the american car buyers who purchased their flawed products. If the NHTSA does not designate this as a recall status, then it is time for us Saturn owners who were sold these flawed vehicles to unite and file a major class action suit for more money than General Motors received in the bailout of the automotive industry.

2007 Saturn Ion I was involved in a car accident 02/03/2013, with very minimal damage to my left, front panel. Almost a month later, the vehicle was repaired and drove fine for 3 days. After the 3rd day my car would turn over but it would not start. I had the original repair center inspect my vehicle and they told me the timing chain was off, but it was not related to the car accident. I got a second opinion from another mechanic and he advised me that the timing chain was not due to my accident. I've never had any trouble with my vehicle before this incident and after searching the web and finding numerous complaints about timing chain issues, I'm curious as to why there's no recall.

The key to this vehicle is stuck in the ignition and will not turn off. This vehicle had this ignition replaced due to a similar issue in 2010 by a GM dealer in ourisman Chevrolet Buick (703) 329-1300 1800 old richmond highway, alexandria, va 22303-1856. The original part became defected for the same issue and I had to pay over $700 to have the part replaced. Now, the same issue has occurred. The key is stuck in the ignition and unable to turn off the car. I contacted General Motors (Saturn) at 1-800-553-6600 to report the problem and they are aware this has been happening. However, the is no recall to correct this measure. To turn the car off you have to disconnect the wires or replace the part for another $900. If GM (Saturn) is aware of the problem a recall should be posted to all owners of the Saturn Ion and reimbursement should be provided for owners who had paid to have the part replaced.
