GM 2009 Saturn Sky passenger side air bag seat occupancy sensor has prematurely gone bad at 14,000 miles. Light comes on while driving the passenger side air bag system is disabled. This is the same sensor as the GM Cadillac cts which has a recall, but the Saturn Sky does not. I have taken to a GM dealer, tested and they say the passenger side air bag will not deploy with the bladder sensor bad. On the Saturn Sky forum, this is happening to most all Saturn Sky's and Pontiac solstice cars (which are out of production) but this is still a safety issue. I would hate to think of an accident occurring and GM and the NHTSA knowing of this issue from numerous complaints since 2014 and still not recalled as of today May 26, 2016! GM waited too long on the key issue, they should not wait on the air bag sensor issue as the Cadillac cts currently has a recall!

My 2009 Saturn Sky, with less than 50,000 miles, displayed the "service air bag" light in the instrument panel on 5/8/16 for no reason. The air bags have never deployed, and the car has never been in an accident. I am taking it to an authorized GM dealer, but this cost and problem is absurd for a car well taken care of and garage kept.

Passenger air bag light on dash indicates problem with passenger sensor. I was driving with my grandson who weighs about 110 pounds and suddenly the light came on. This is alarming since I don't know if there was a collision, it would prevent the air bag from deploying and my passenger would not be protected. Upon searching the internet it is obvious that this is a common problem with the Saturn Sky and should be recalled since it impacts the safety of the occupants. The sensor is a think plastic circuit which is located under the seat covering and gets worn out. Totally unacceptable and seems that General Motors would want to address this issue to prevent loss of life and potential law suits.

Service airbag light illuminated and took the vehicle to the dealer for repair. The assessment was that the passenger weight sensor had failed. The repair is to replace the entire seat at a cost of $948. The failure is to the sensor tape affixed to the bottom of the seat. It becomes brittle as it ages and cracks. That cause a fault to be sent to the sensor module. It cannot be repaired and the sensor is bonded to the seat bottom. There are no new parts being made since this vehicle went out of production in 2009. All sensor tapes are therefore old and prone to rapid cracking and failure. The Saturn Sky (and Pontiac solstice - basically same vehicle) are full of horror stories about multiple failures of this part that renders the airbag inoperative. There new part continues to fail in most cases and must be replaced repeatedly even though it is the passenger seat sensor in a two seat sports car. That seat in most cases is rarely used. In my case the vehicle only has 19655 miles on it and has had a passenger in the seat on only about 20 occasions. There is only a limited warranty on the replacement and service techs state that it will fail again fairly quickly. This in not only expensive, it is dangerous. Most owners like me will likely forgo the repair and just drive it with the light on and the passenger airbag inoperative.

This is in reference to the faulty air bag sensor in the seats of the Saturn Sky's and Pontiac solstice. A known defect in the air bag sensor in the seats is leading to an expensive fix for GM owners. The "service air bag" light illuminates due to a faulty craftsmanship in the seat sensor. This could possibly cause the airbag system to not function properly. It is a widespread problem with these cars and really started to take place for a lot of people after the ignition recall. The replacement part and labor is costing around $900 for the repair of one seat when the parts can be ordered form germany for around $80. GM knows and really needs to address this issue before this malfunction causes some type of bodily harm.

Passenger airbag indicator light is on. Diagnostics indicate module must be replaced ($700 to $1100). Research indicates a replacement module may fail again.

I purchased a 2009 Saturn Sky from a gillman Chrysler/Jeep/ Ram a houston dealership and the service air bag light was on when I test drove. I was told that this would be taken care of but as of now, it has not. I talked directly to Chevrolet but Chevrolet will not fix the problem even though this has occurred many times prior on the same car. This should obviously be a recall. Please don't wait for someone to die before you react.

I was turning into my subdivision and as I entered a curve in the road my hand hit the key fob and the ignition turned off. I stopped as quick as possible and put the car in park and restarted the engine. Immediately the check engine and have air bags serviced lights came on and stayed on. I recently had the ignition replaced under recall but the lights stayed on.

The air bag sensor in my vehicle came on two days after dealer repaired the ignition recall. And I took it back and was informed that it would have to be replaced at my expense. Service manager informed me that is very common in this vehicle. I have owned GM vehicles for 25 years and never had a problem like this. In fact I have a 01 durmax that has 375 thousand miles and air bags system has never faulted. You do realize any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($800-$ 1000.00), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. I have been on many threads where thousands of people are having this problem. This is my daily driver and I have passengers in this vehicle daily and, I feel your company is putting myself as well as my passengers at risk of injury.

2009 Saturn Sky. Consumer writes in regards to ignition and start switch recall parts issue. The consumer called the dealer three time, only to be told the parts were not available, but they had been ordered. The consumer referenced recalls 14V047000 and 14V171000.

Got the ignition switch replaced and now the service air bag light wont go off. This results in the passenger side seat and should be a recall!!! the car is not safe to drive with anyone in the car because the air bags will not deploy. I never had this issue until I got the ignition recalled.

After starting the engine, the passenger entered the vehicle and the "service air bag" light came on in the dic when they sat down. The passenger side air bag indicator said the air bag was "off". after the passenger exited the vehicle, the warning remained and the indicator lights still said "off". disconnecting the battery and resetting made no difference. It appears that the air bag will not deploy in an accident creating a dangerous situation.

Passenger seat module sensor not functioning (according to warning on dashboard), which in turn will not activate the air bags in a vehicle collision. I can not understand why General Motors has not done a recall on this continuing problem for most years of the Pontiac solstice and the Saturn Sky models. This is an ongoing major safety issue that GM is aware of. Please facilitate a response from GM to rectify this urgent situation.

First incident happen when I arrived at work. I got into a parking place and shifted the car into park. Then went to shut off the car by turning the key. The key would not turn and so I could not turn my car off. I had to cut the car off by opening the hood and taking the fuel pump fuse out to shut it off. The key would turn to turn it off but not off. Took it to a GM dealership and got it replaced. Not cheap. No warranty. An inconvenience. Second incident happen as my girlfriend got into my 2009 Saturn Sky on the passenger side into the seat. The service airbag light glowed into the display and has been on since. Now when I have someone ride with me they will not have an airbag to keep them safe in the event of a crash etc. It cost way too much to get it repaired. I took it to the same GM dealer I did that fixed my key stuck in ignition for me and just for them to look at it'll cost $100 even if I know what has to be done. The seat will have to be taken apart and a new airbag sensor module will have to be installed. Total cost: $850-$1,100. And yet now recall. GM needs to take responsibility for both these issues. They are both major safety issues. Airbag sensor module is made in germany but no more info. On them. All Saturn Sky owners have experienced this and even if we do spend the outrages amount of money to fix it both problems can and have happen again to Saturn Sky owners.

The contact owns a 2009 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light illuminated with the seat occupied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the air bag module sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

The vehicles air bag warning light appeared in my dash upon starting my vehicle today. The passenger seat is not registering that someone is sitting in the seat. According to GM {owner of the late Saturn)the passenger airbag will not deploy if I were to get into an accident while the light is illuminated and quoted me almost $1,100 to fix it. My friends Sky is doing the same thing, everyone seems to be driving around with faulty airbag systems! how is this not a safety issue? recall!
