Forenza 4-cyl

  • 27,000 miles

The failure continued to recur and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Approximately one month later, the failure began to recur while driving approximately 45 mph for an extended period of time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and it was repaired. I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza with less than 50K miles on it. The transmission range sensor needs to be replaced. It begins when I put the car in reverse.the car will jerk and the RPM's will begin to rev but car wont take off and when it does, it goes very slow for a while. As I move the gear into park, drive or reverse, the car will jerk through each gear. This began happening once or twice a month and now has progressed to at least once a day. This is not safe when going through an intersection because you can take off when there are no cars, but the cars soon come racing through and I'm still not across the intersection yet because the car moves extremely slow when the light is on. My husband is stationed in germany and car repairs are extremely expensive here so we haven't gotten it fixed yet because we don't have that kind of money.

I own a 2006 Suzuki Forenza, the car has been nothing but problems, numerous trips back to the expensive dealership for repairs that just so happen to not be under warranty. My wife was driving on the interstate a couple of days ago and the car just stop going, she said it felt like the car just shut off. After pulling over on the side of the road, mind you now we have two small children, she called me and I told her to hold tight until I got there. It ends up being this transmission safety switch, which would you know is not covered under my powertrain warranty, pathetic.............. this dealership and Suzuki are gonna keep nickel and dimming me until I am flat broke................... signed fed up with Suzuki !

Forenza

  • 50,000 miles
I own a 2006 Suzuki Forenza sedan. When putting the car into gear, transmission "slams" into gear, instrument panel display scrambles. Sometimes vehicle slips into a higher or lower gear on its own. A week ago, I was passing another vehicle on a two lane highway. While still in the opposite lane, car switched into neutral on its own and I was left in the opposing lane with oncoming traffic coming! I was able to switch to another gear and continued to safely pass the car in front of me, but it was a bit scary. Fortunately, the car I was passing was driving about 40 mph under the speed limit. From what I've read online, there have been several different instances of this issue occurring. It is related to the transmission range sensor. Currently the dealership charges nearly $300 to replace the part, and some say they have similar issues even after the replacement. It is very scary not knowing when your car might decide to switch into neutral or another gear. I hope it never switches to reverse! unfortunately, this issue tends to occur between 40000-60000 miles and is past the initial 36000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, and because the sensor is outside the transmission and not "in" the transmission, it is not covered by the 100000 mile powertrain warranty.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles
I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza with an automatic transmission. For the past few months while we are driving the car shifts out of gear, into another gear, or will not shift at all. We have taken the car into West valley Suzuki to have diagnostics and repairs done, they have replaced a transmission sensor, but one week after the repair was done we are still having problems. The issue is intermittent, but we are concerned about the safety of our family that the car would just shift without the driver moving the shifting stick. We have just taken the car back to the dealership and they are saying that there is nothing wrong, and they can't fix anything.

Transmission range selector switch on the 2006 Suzuki Forenza is failing, and yet they do not consider this important enough to recall. Through searching, I have found many people who have complained about this switch going bad in their Forenza's. this switch is obviously defective, and initially would only "act up" about once a month, now it has progressed to once or more a week.

I purchased my 2006 Forenza on June 15, 2006. I had a no start problem at first but the was corrected. In March of this year, my headlight and high beams completely failed. I took it to a Suzuki dealer and had the wiring harness replaced, costing me $118 because my warranty had expired and there was no recall issued for that particular failure. Although the service manager stated that it was a known problem. Now my car, like many other 2006 Forenzas, has a failure with a transmission sensor. I called the dealership, and was told again that it has a common and well known problem, and I do still have a powertrain warranty, but as the sensor is on the transmission and not in the transmission it is not covered under warranty and I will have to pay $235 to have it replaced. I am livid right now! I was on the highway when the sensor told my transmission that it was in neutral and went from 65 to 70 miles per hour to 40 mph. Why doesn't it surprise me that Suzuki refuses to issue a recall on this" oh, that's right, because it only has to do with the safety of it's consumers. Can someone, please educate Suzuki on what the word "safety" means"

I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. I bought it new, off the lot in york pa from a Suzuki dealer. About 3 months after my purchase, the car began bucking and when I took it to the dealer, they could not find anything wrong. Over the last 3 years, the car has continued to buck on cold mornings and after sitting for more than 24 hours. The car now has approximately 59,000 miles on it. Then, last week, as I was driving, the car suddenly lost power. The engine light came on and the "D" (for drive) began flashing at me but it had a line through it, making it look more like an "8". I had to floor the gas pedal to get the car to accelerate. I immediately took it to a local dealer (not a Suzuki dealer). They found that the transmission selector switch was bad. Over the past several days, I have read of other peoples' stories, very similar to mine. Had this problem happened on the highway, I could have been in a serious or even fatal accident. I am now going to have to put out a great deal of money to get this problem corrected.

2006 Suzuki Forenza. Vehicle shifts out of gear while driving. The dealer who will be repairing this defect stated that this is a problem on most Forenza vehicles. A switch on the outside of the transmission needs replacing and it will cost $186 to replace. He also stated that this happens so often on Forenza vehicles that he advised everyone to keep their receipt in the event of a company recall.

The contact owns a 2006 Suzuki Forenza. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle changed gears independently without warning. The failure began on January 9, 2010 and recurred three times within the weekend. The speed sensitive warning light illuminated after the vehicle changed gears. The contact was forced to shift the gears in drive 2 in order to drive forward. The vehicle will no longer shift into drive; however, the vehicle has to be driven in drive 3 to operate normally. The failure mileage was 37000.

2006 Suzuki Forenza, brake sensor went out and car would not go out of park and into drive. I fixed that and then on December 19, 2009 I was drving down the highway and the car went out of drive and into neutral. I almost wrecked because I couldn't get the car back into drive to keep up with the flow of traffic. In a panic I put the car in 3rd gear and I was able to make it home. The mechanic has had the car for over a week trying to figure out what the problem is. This could have caused a serious accident.

2006 Suzuki Forenza wagon. I have searched the internet only to find that very many other people are having the same problems with the shifting of the automatic transmission just like we are. It is stuck in 2nd gear & very slow to accelerate, revs way to high when reaching posted speeds.both are very dangerous. Why is this not a recall? we feel we are destroying the engine. We bought it last year, used & with no warranty. We feel we have been taken advantage of. The dealer will not help us(Dodge dealer). We called a Suzuki dealer and they told us this problem is very common but it is an electrical issue which is not under warranty and extremely expensive. What can we do? please help.
