Camry

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

2007 Camry, bought new, dealer serviced until about 15,000 miles ago. 65,000 miles

It has became a major oil consumer right after warranty expired. This engine is definitely

a "lemon". I thought I was really making a good move when I bought it but I'm considering a different company. It sounds like Toyota doesn't care about future business by the way they pretend this is normal. That's an insult to what little intelligence I have.

Camry 24 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,253 miles

The problem is ongoing since nov 2009, when oil level was discovered at practically empty by dealer mechanic. This was only two months following a regularly scheduled oil change that was done at the dealer ,approximately 6000kilometers later!! I have gone through the Rostock analysis just like others that I have read and Toyota has the gall to claim that this is normal consumption within Toyota standards. Unacceptable, have been complaining in writing since and constantly adding oil.since November 2009 31000 km

Driven I have added 24 liters of oil(Excluding 4 regularly scheduled oil changes, minimum 4 liters each time)

The Camry was purchased new, there is no doubt in my mind that this Is a Manufacturer defect and that Toyota is hiding yet another major problem. Certain Camry owners2007 model Taxi cab drivers have had their engines replaced by Toyota. A legal. Team should initiate a class action suit.

I, as the other gentleman from Ontario, am extremely dissatisfied with Toyota and do not intend to ever purchase any other Toyota vehicle nor will I recommend it.

Camry LE 2.4L?

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,107 miles

My new '07 Camry (bought it in '06 from dealer) is a piece of junk. It was in the shop approximately once a month for the first year, and problems still persist. Rattles, squeaks, broken struts, waterpump, oil leaks, excessive oil consumption - the stupid thing loses more oil than the Exxon Valdez! These SOBs were in such a hurry to surpass GM as #1, they threw quality control out the window. They've ridden the last 5 years on their old reputation, and now are content producing garbage. I'll never step foot in a Toyota dealership again.

Update from Aug 1, 2013: Call me a fool - I was one of the first to sound the alarm on this site back in '06. I still have the Camry in question, because I couldn't afford to take the big hit when I sold it, nor did I want to rip-off some unsuspecting buyer. At 150kms, it goes through more oil than what was lost in the BP Gulf accident. I made it up all the way on the food chain to the office of the President of Toyota Canada to voice my complaint through persistant emails, calls, and letters where I was eventually and unceremoniously told to go F myself (of course, in PC corporate jargon). I guess you really can't fight city hall, particularly if it resides in Tokyo.

Update from Feb 15, 2016: Hell must have frozen over. I was one of the first posters back in '08 complaining about my Camry's excessive oil consumption. I fought like hell with Toyota, but they basically told me to take a hike as nothing could possibly be wrong with their splendid vehicles. Eight months ago they sent me a letter saying it's not a recall, but they acknowledge that a few Camrys are going through a lot of oil, and that they would fix mine (The last time I corresponded with them was about seven years ago). It took them over a half a year from receiving the letter, but the dealership from where I bought my Camry new took my car in and fixed it, and It no longer burns oil. You s*ns of b*tches - I literally spent thousands of dollars over the years topping up my oil, never mind the inconvenience of doing it every couple of hundred kilometers. It appears to me that with having incurred these additional costs in oil, my "free" repair really wasn't free afterall. Camry owners - go back to your dealer - they owe you.

Camry LE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

Noticed my 2007 Toyota Camry was 1qt low on oil after driving for 3,000 miles. So, I now have to keep a quart of oil in the trunk of my new car to add oil periodically, due to more than average oil consumption. I brought this to the dealership and complained. I got two different answers. One manager said it was normal. The other said its unacceptable. Either way, they did a visual inspection and found no leaks. Then they looked at the tailpipe and said it wasn't using any oil. Hmm....didnt I just put a quart of oil in the car to keep it from blowing up? Once again, I had to call the Toyota factory and complain. They instructed the deal to change my oil, and now I have to drive the car to the dealer to have them verify the oil level on the dipstick and document it. So, the consumer must drive a new car to the dealer every 1,000 miles and let them document the oil levels. Are they going to pay me by the hour to do this? I find this solution more than an inconvenience. I am more than dissatisfied with this vehicle. I have other cases open with Toyota regarding the transmission issues. Rest assured Toyota, I am not going away. They will fix this vehicle correctly or I will go all the way to Arbitration. If that doesn't work, I will be spending some time outside the dealer turning away customers. This is how angry I am about this car. I have never been more dissatisfied with a new product in my life.
