When attempting to park, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and I was forced to stop it by running into a palm tree in order to avoid hitting people and other cars or causing more serious damage.

On December 4, 2011, with my wife and returning from a visit to our children, I was driving our 2009 Camry East from brooklyn in the left lane about a mile onto the jackie robinson parkway at about 4:30 P.M., visibility very good and road dry. Traffic was heavy but moving about 35-40 M.P.H. when it slowed a little in front of me I put on the brake-- but the car speeded up. I repeated the braking and the car speeded up even more. These two attempted braking occurred in about 5 seconds. I saw we would crash into the car ahead. I tried to steer mainly into the space between that car and the one in the right lane so as to minimize damage to them, but the car in front of me went a little faster. Our car, having hit the right-lane car in its left rear, went past that car and into the opened-up space and the shoulder, and into an about three-plus-foot concrete retaining wall, hitting it at an angle with the right front of our car, which mounted the wall on our right-hand wheels and came to a stop there. Air bags had not deployed but tensioned seatbelts hit us hard in the chests. We managed to get my door open and get out. The car was totaled, with about 12,000 miles on it, always carefully maintained. I would add that when Toyota recalled the car in 2010 I brought it in for the adjustments and was interested to learn from the mechanic at the dealership that the adjustments would take awhile because they required modifications to the car's computer. Also, I as well as my wife have been driving, each of us for nearly 50 years, with exemplary records, and neither of us has ever pressed the gas pedal when we meant to step on the brakes. We are writing to you in the hope that still other Toyota customers will not have to suffer the upset that we still feel, or of course worse. (I sent this to you via pdf earlier today.)

2009 Toyota Camry had a uncontrolled sudden acceleration incident while my wife, daughter, 9 week old grandson, and two nieces were in the car. She was making a left turn when throttle locked on full power. My wife applied the brakes but did slow car to much so she placed in neutral, coasting into a shopping as the engine kept racing. She check the floor mat but no problem then stomped the throttle a couple of time until the engine RPM returned to normal. She then place the car in drive then parked the car into a parking stall. She recalled the smelling order hot engine and hot brakes. Vehicle was driven home and is being taken to Toyota 05/09/11 for inspection as instructed by service advisor.

The vehicle was towed to a body shop where it was being inspected by the contacts insurance company. The driver continued to take medication and was undergoing therapy for severe pain in her right leg. The passenger sustained scratches to his arm. A police report was filed. Prior to these incidents, the vehicle was checked by the dealer on their recall. I was traveling on a 2 lane highway at 60 mph with the cruise control on. I approached a slight incline in the road and the transmission downshifted as normal. Tachometer went from 2000 RPM to 3000 RPM. Then suddenly there was a sudden uncontrollable acceleration in which the engine revved up to 4500 RPM and the engine was screaming as though it was about to blow apart. My foot was not in contact with the accelerator pedal. The floor mat had been removed per the dealer instructions. I immediately put my foot on the brake pedal which stopped the sudden acceleration. If this had been on a wet highway or in traffic there would surely have been an accident. This same incident has occurred 4 times within the last 6 months. I took the vehicle back to the dealer and they reported that there was nothing wrong and they could not replicate the problem. After several conversations with Toyota, they said that they will make a record of my incidents but, Toyota will do nothing to fix the problem. This had to have been caused by the cruise control system or the computer/software controlling it.

The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they will send a representative to retrieve the black box. The contact was concerned since a severe crash could have occurred. The failure mileage was 15,000.

On the morning of Oct 22 '10, I was on my way to work when suddenly my 2009 Toyota Camry accelerated, I tried applying the brakes, however to no avail.. I tried to steer the car out of the way due to it was a busy intersection..it finally came to a stop when it crashed head on into a vehicle ( after crashing into 2 more on the way), the airbags never deployed, also note that I had taking it a few months back for the recall; I was bruised, however the mental scars which are the worse, cannot be seen, constantly thinking of what could have been, I'm reporting this incident because even though I would never want anyone to go thru what I went thru, unfortunately it will continue to happen if nothing is done about it, I am urging the NHTSA and any other entities that have the power, to keep the roads & the public safe, this is an urgent matter and hopefully something drastic can be done before we lose more lives.

My daughter was exiting a parking garage on a descending ramp going at the most about 10 mph in our 2009 Toyota Camry. She had her foot on the brake pedal. There were cars in front of her. The car suddenly accelerated. She pushed hard on the brake and the brake pedal went to the floor to no effect. She turned into the garage wall to stop the car so as not to run into the vehicles ahead of her. When she exited the car to get help the brake pedal was completely on the floor of the vehicle. While coming to a stop in my driveway my 2009 Toyota Camry had sudden surge with my feet on the brake. The car ran away and hit my house, bird baths, smoker on trailer, went into neighbors driveway and hit a van and finally came to rest in a hedge row. The physical evidence and police report show the brakes were on. The gas pedal was replaced in March under the recall. It had nothing to do with the sudden acceleration.

My wife was pulling into a parking spot and all of a sudden the car accelerated very quickly, she was quick enough to turn the wheel sharply to the right and hit the front left fender on the wall of the building, she also hit a parking sign on the right front fender. The damage to the car was over $7500. No air bags were activated. This is a 2009 Toyota Camry that we had brought into the dealership for a recall in April of 2010. My wife does not believe she stepped on the gas pedal but that the car just suddenly accelerated.

Unintended acceleration after recall fix applied. Recall repairs made on 2-10-2010. Two times on 8-19-2010 the vehicle continued to accelerate after releasing the gas pedal and applying the brake. The first was in the morning while pulling into a parking space. The vehicle was stopped by the concrete bumper. The second was in the evening. After removing the foot from the accelerator to apply the break while driving to slow for a speed bump. The car continued to accelerate.
