Power steering seems overly sensitive. Constant minor corrections to steering wheel are required to keep the vehicle in a straight line. Even with all the extra steering wheel corrections, I still end up weaving down the road. I have heard others say they feel as if the are losing control. My complaint is that I have to control too much. I have had six other Toyota Corollas none of which had the electric power steering. They are fine. I noticed this behavior as soon as I drove the car home from the dealer on the day of purchase in January, 2009. When I asked about this I was told by the dealer (metro Toyota, cleveland, Ohio) that what I am experiencing is normal for a car with electric power steering. I'm not so sure.

I would like to complain about the steering system of my 2009 Toyota Corolla. At the limits of the steering system there is a loud noise. That is, at the end of the degree to which I can turn the wheel the steering system makes a loud knocking sound. I have pointed this out to classic Toyota in mentor Ohio in the past and was told there is no problem. I am concerned that there is a steering problem!

My 2009 Toyota Corolla has issues at highway speed with its steering. It will be fine and then it will want to go side to side very quickly for a short while, then go back to driving normally. It is similar to what would happen if you were to move the steering wheel rapidly side to side, but just a few inches. It happens at speeds over 50mph and has done it up to 80mph. It does not always happen, but does so several times a week. I have an 80 mile round trip commute daily, and sometimes it happens several times in one direction.

I recently read about the power steering issue being probed in 2009-10 Toyota Corollas. The symptoms that I read about are exactly what I experience in my 2009 Corolla. When I am at higher speeds, it feels like it is being blown by really strong wind and at times I have to fight to keep it going straight.

When driving my 2009 Toyota Corolla on the highway at speeds of 50 mph or more, steering becomes extremely difficult to control in my car. It jerks to both the left and the right with no warning. I thought it was my tire alignment at first but that is not the problem.

I noticed a problem with the steering on my Corolla. The car had 12,116 miles on it when I brought it in to the dealer. The problem I experienced was that it seemed that I had to wrestle with the wheel to keep the car from drifting side to side. It had not happened during the first 12,000 miles. The dealer said there was nothing wrong with the steering.

On January 11th 2009 I got in an accident in my 2009 Toyota Corolla. I was traveling at approximately 65 mph on the I-5 South in san diego. I noticed a car inching into my lane close to hitting me so I immediately took evasive action and turned my steering wheel to the left and immediately lost control. I skidded to the left then to the right trying to counter steer the whole time to no effect. I hit the car that I was trying to avoid and then spun 180 degrees and slammed into the center divider. I feel that I lost control way to easily. I noticed not being able to keep the wheel steady as well prior to the crash. I received whiplash and wash treated at a military hospital.

I owned a 2009 Toyota Corolla for only 2 weeks because I sold it. The steering was horrible, on the freeway you had to constantly stay alert to keep it in a straight line it was like driving a 20 year old car. I felt I should say something with the latest problems.

As a current owner of a 2009 Toyota Corolla I believe that the steering issue is something that needs to be looked at. While I have not had any serious problem, the car at highway speeds, on a windy day is very uncomfortable to drive. It seem that at highway speeds the feed back to the driver does not allow for good control when hit with a gust of wind. This car even on a good day needs to be driven with great care to keep it in its lane. I am sure this is not the last we will hear of problems with this.

On February 11, 2010, when I was driving our new 2009 Toyota Corolla from wilmington to philly on I95 and my husband was sitting on the passenger side. We feel our vehicle was continuously vibrating. The car vibrate just like the earthquake. Our speed is only 55 miles an hour. And there is no wind in that day. It is very hard to control and we were scared, so we slowly take the brake and stop the car to inspect, we did not find anything unusual. Then we kept driving it on the I95, we felt the same vibration. Regarding to the safety consideration, we left the highway and we are afraid of driving it on highway right now. I consulted with some people who have some knowledge on car, they told me it is some problem with the steer system. I am communicating with my dealers and trying to get the feedback from them.

Purchased Toyota Corolla 2009 and ever since had steering problems on highway. When driving at highway speeds the car wants to go all over the highway by itself. It is exalting to drive any distance on the highway. I am constantly fighting with the steering just to keep the car straight. I do not drive in the middle lane of traffic because of my car veering around and do not want a traffic accident.

Since May 2009, my 2009 Toyota Corolla drifts on the highway left or right. I hold the steering wheel very tight, and still the car drifts. I have used the stock rims, new rims, original tires, snow tires and new tires. Have had front wheel alignments done, and nothing. Now that I am hearing about this problem, I thought it was just me. But got new tires on 2/19/2010, and the same thing. I drive 80 miles round trip each day to work and am concerned about my safety. All it takes is one look away, and you are drifting. This car does this all the time. I am going to ask the dealer to do something about it, since there are more complaints now.

Power steering problems. Car is hard to keep in straight line. Power steering over corrects with the slightest movement right or left of the steering wheel. While traveling on I 40 in a one lane construction zone near winston salem N.C. on October 16th 2009, I turned the steering wheel to the right. I then had to correct by turning back to the left. When I turned left the steering over corrected causing me to strike a construction cone with my left mirror. The glass in the mirror broke and I replaced it at my expense. I have had problems keeping the car in a straight line while traveling between 40 - 60 miles per hour ever since the car was purchased. I travel thousands of miles every year driving several makes of vehicles. This vehicle is the only one I have had this problem with. After hearing of other people having the same problem, I believe this is either a design problem or an equipment failure and should be corrected by Toyota in order to prevent accidents or deaths caused by this problem.

My 2009 Toyota Corolla keeps pulling left - it is particularly obvious (and more difficult to handle)when driving 55mph+ on the highway. I went to my dealership, reported the problem and asked them to check on it last week. They said that there was no problem with the alignment of the car. However, they rotated my two front tires - which did not fix the problem. My car keeps pulling left when driving at high speeds (55 mph+) on the highway. This hasn't caused an accident yet, but it does make it difficult to drive the vehicle.
