Electronic power steering in my 2009 Toyota Corolla becomes noticeably loose and will drift to one side while driving. I notice the steering wheel become less responsive after pulling into/out of a driveway, over train tracks, pothole, anything that provides shock to the vehicle with throw off the steering control, but it could be a flat straight road and the vehicle will drift. The steering control is so loose that one must constantly be adjusting the steering wheel to prevent the vehicle from drifting. I had my alignment adjusted 3 times over the past 3 weeks thinking something may be wrong with it, but the technicians stated that alignment was within spec. I purchased new tires (and balanced tires) and the drifting still occurs. Found this technical service bulletin tsb-0140-10 and it is exactly the same drift like crosswind pushing the vehicle. I called a Toyota dealership and spoke to a service technician who stated that the authorized solutions was to replace the ECU with a different ECU part number, calibrate steering wheel centering and again align the wheels for the new ECU. If they give replace it with a different part number why isn't this a safety recall, since they are not replacing it with the same defective part number" someone at Toyota is clearly aware that the old part number is no good. If the vehicle steering goes out even slightly while the vehicle is in motion, why is that not considered a safety recall" no preventative maintenance can prevent this, only a Toyota service center can repair this. This would only be covered by Toyota warranty if the issue was reported within 36 months or 36000 miles, even though a settlement was reached with Toyota in July 2015 that closed the issue with the NHTSA. The Toyota dealership quoted me an out of pocket repair cost of $1200, for something that they know is a problem with the steering control.

Takata recall: How could this have a recall and your company is stalling to complete this recall when you are knowing that when driven we can get into a major fatal car accident with the airbags forcing pressure against our bodies and even can burn our face and moreso death can appear during this incident. I was so frightened to think I see the airbag 6 second light light up and blink driving on the highway. Thank the lord that nothing happened to cause an accident or a 36O turn multple crash on the rain, mudslide roads..

When driving, steering requires constant attention as it drifts both right and left off center making it difficult to drive straight. Vehicle, at highway speeds, will sometimes give the feel of hydroplaning or being buffeted by strong cross winds(very scary and dangerous). This vehicle is unsafe as it requires you to Focus all of your attention directly in front of the car just trying to keep it between the lines. Any distraction such as reading a highway sign for 2 seconds can find you drifting into another lane or off the road. The sudden feeling of hydrplaning is exceptionally dangerous as one can oversteer to correct.

Dangerous car to drive. Vehicle drifts hard left when driving in a straight line. Problem is made worse when driving next to a large trailer truck with crosswinds. Car steering has a large loose, dead center feel disconnected to the road. When turning, the power steering does not move the steering wheel to the center. The driver has to manually correct the wheel every time. I purchased the car "new" from the dealer. I still own it today, and the steering is just as bad. In bad weather, the problem is absolutely terrible. The dealer has no solution.

H first time the car malfunction I was coming back from returning the rental truck, I was pulling out on the highway and at that time the steering wheel locked up, the battery indicator light come on, ABS brake light come on, and rest of the idiot lights on the panel come on. It was very hard to steer the car, will all my effort with two hands I can steer the wheel and control the car. The engine was running really rough and sounded like it was going to quit. This lasted for approximately 20 seconds it seemed like, and then the car started running right now and I was able to steer again and all the lights on the panel went out. I was very concerned about this thinking my car was failing and I knew that there is probably something the matter with it but when it started running right, I figured I just can't fix something that's not broke and really take no notice of it. How my daughter got a driver's license on August the 4th and then on August the 6 you wanted to use the car. So I let her use it. The car malfunction again on this day and and it took out the alternator when it did. So I change the alternator in the car and let my wife use the car for two days because she travels a short distance to work to see if it's ok. After two days of my wife driving and then I resume driving it to work. Didn't appear to be the car was working fine until August 13th, and that's when my daughter erica drove the car again and while backing out of the driveway the car malfunction, she couldn't steer the car the brakes won't work and naturally grown in reverse the emergency brake is not that effective in she ran off the road and damage the car.

I was driving back to home, when I arrived I need to turn my car to the right side to my apartment but I couldn't steer my car to the right side. I decided to go straight to park in other parking space in front of me. I try to turn steering wheel but it became harder to turn then the beginning. Then I saw the "ABS" light and "battery" light are on, the steering wheel locked and my car stopped working. If I was on the freeway, probably will cause horrible accident!

There is a loud clunking noise coming from the steering column. The road surfaces causes the steering wheel to jerk and creates a rattling clunk noise and low speeds. If the steering wheel shook side to side, the apparent noise is clicking. I suspect this is a faulty steering intermediate shaft. At highway speeds, the car tends to drift out of the lane. Uneven road surfaces causes the wheel to jerk at city and highway speeds. Wheel balancing and vehicle alignment were performed. The issue has not been fixed. Replacing the intermediate shaft should be a recall as well as the replacement/reprogram of the eps module.

I don't drive this vehicle much on the highway. This problem has been coming on for some time. For the longest time I thought it was the wind. It's not. The vehicle floats on the highway and requires maximum attention or I'll find myself in the ditch or worse. I've had the alignment checked and the tires are in very good condition. There's something wrong with the steering. I call it my "all over the road Corolla."

The car is constantly moving left or right in your lane with out you moving steering wheel. You need to correct all the time. Some times when you correct a little it moves a lot. Every one that drives car has same problem with steering. To me it is a safety problem. Can cause you to loose control of car. Steering requires constant driver correction to go straight down the highway. Car pulls to the left or right, but won't track straight when driving on the highway. This occurs whenever the car is driven at highway speeds. When driving on windy days, it's more difficult to control because crosswinds add to the instability.

Car would not track down the highway. Feels like I'm constantly corralling this car, adjusting the steering wheel to stay in my lane of traffic. In my 40 plus years of driving, I have never experienced this behavior from a vehicle. This behavior actually occurs at all speeds. Have been told by my mechanic that it is not an alignment issue, but is a manufacturing problem. Seems like a grave safety concern to me. From the sheer number of complaints on steering components, looks like someone needs to be a little more proactive and pull the trigger on a recall.
