When applying the brake pedal, sitting stopped in traffic, the brake pedal seems to fade away intermittently. You only loose about 1-2" of pedal height, but the car will start to roll forward if you do not notice it and apply more pedal pressure to stop the car. I am ase certified in brakes and it has a bad master cylinder. Toyota states the this is a "normal" condition for this vehicle and refuses to warranty this issue. This vehicle has 4800 miles on it.

I just received a recall notice from Toyota concerning a 19 state recall of 'ssc 90H - certain 2009-2010 Corolla and Corolla matrix brake system vacuum port special service campaign". this notice advises (under "what is the condition"? "if the vehicle is operated under extremely low temperatures, there is a possibility that condensed moisture from a positive crankcase ventilation (pvc) port may seep into the brake system vacuum port ("port") and freeze. The port is located inside the intake manifold and provides vacuum assist for the brakes. Should this condition continue, ice may slowly accumulate at the port and in the worst case, ultimately plug the port. As a result, power assist to the brakes would gradually decrease (eventually to zero), and the increased pedal pressure required could lead to greater vehicle stopping distances." "what should you do?" "if you believe that there is a possibility for your vehicle to be operated in the 19 specified states or in the conditions described above, please contact any authorized Toyota dealer and...." this description of the problem is very subjective ("possibility of condensed moisture...", "ice may slowly accumulate..."if you believe there is a possibility for your vehicle to be operated...". I have already operated the vehicle in Nevada (one of the 19 states listed). If this is really a safety concern I would think that all vehicles should be either a) fixed with the redesigned air intake connector or B) provide the vehicle with a safety warning sticker (placed prominently on the steering wheel?) that advises the driver that this vehicle has not been fitted with the redesigned air intake connector and that vacuum brake failure may occur whenever the outside temperature is below X degrees F (Y degrees C) for periods greater than I hours. Without specifics I don't know if I should receive this new part, and if I elect not to, how do I pass on the possible extended low temperature impact to future owner(s)?

I bought a 2010 Toyota Corolla S in June of 2009. Whenever I would be driving on rough and uneven roads and had to use my brakes they would not work. The car would keep moving forward without slowing down when I would apply my brakes. This happened all of the time even after I took my car to the Toyota dealership for them to inspect and fix the problem. I told them about this when I would take my car in for an oil change and routine maintenance and the mechanic assured me that if there were anything wrong with my brakes that they would find it and fix it because they do a complete check of my car and it functions when the do the routine maintenance and car diagnostic. However, the problem still continued and I had routine maintenance on my car 3 different times. My car was also taken to the same Toyota dealership for the same problem during times it did not need maintenance and after taking my entire break system apart and still not finding anything, they told me that everything looked fine. However, this was not the case because the first uneven road I drove on my breaks did not work properly and the vsc symbol immediately came on and my car started making this constant annoying beeping sound that wouldn't go away. Therefore I called Toyota telling them about it and they said to bring the car back, so I did. They said they found a leak in one of my hoses. Something that their car diagnostic computer never caught when I initially complained to Toyota about this problem which existed since I bought the car. After getting the car back this time the problem seemed to improve a little but was still moving forward when I would break on uneven and rough roads.....I also told the Toyota people that the break problem the prius was having seemed to be the same brake problem my Corolla was having. Although I am aware that the brake system in the prius is probably different from that of my Corolla, because the prius is a hybrid. Perhaps there is a connection.

I own a 2009 Toyota Corolla with 19,000 miles. I am the original owner. I have taken the car in twice for a problem with the brakes. I have owned many cars but none have ever felt so unresponsive when you hit the brakes, especially in the event of a fast stop. The dealers tell me this is normal for vacuum assisted brakes. A brake pedal that goes almost to the floor when stopping and requires dangerous distances to fully stop is not normal, and if Toyota has designed the system to function like this they have a bad design for a major vehicle safety function. The braking system in the 2009 Toyota Corolla may be a dangerous design flaw. You may need to evaluate this function of the Toyota.

Bought a 2010 Corolla on 12/26/09 with Goodyear Eagle ls 2 tires. Upon driving home my steering was weaving left to right felt as though I was driving on ice and/or hydroplaning. Toyota regional rep came from corporate, looked at the steering 2 wks ago. Steering improved until driving in rain on 4/4/10 the steering became loose and the car was weaving left to right and I was once again hydroplaning at 65 mph Goodyear man said when traction is lost to the road, the vehicle will hydroplane. (these tires are dangerous) the consumer stated it was very difficult to control the steering. The vehicle would wander into the next lane. The consumer also stated the vehicle did not always stop in time when the brakes were applied. The consumer was told the vehicle was equipped with ABS and they were much better and safer. Approximately one week ago, my 2010 Corolla surged forward approximately 6-8 feet after I placed in park in my work parking lot. The tachometer went to above 2000 rpms, and the cars speed went over 20 mph before I was able to jam on the emergency brake. My foot was not on the brake or the gas pedal. I almost hit a tree. My head was thrust backwards. Three hours later the paramedics had to come to my office and rush me to the hospital as I had a tia as a result. This is the third acceleration incident with my vehicle since February 12th. The dealership has even had a specialist look at my car, and they said nothing is wrong with it. I brought the car back to the dealership today because of the above incident. The general service manager said to me quote unquote "we can find nothing wrong with your vehicle, and can not verify your complaint. You have brought the car to us four times for this same acceleration problem and there is nothing wrong with your car. We have not charged you any of these times. If you bring it to us again for the same problem, we are going to have to bill you for our time. They also charged me for the rental car today. He also stated that the media is blowing this way out of proportion, and that there is nothing wrong with any of the Toyota vehicles. He said the problem is one of two things. I asked him what those two things were. He stated that they are the drivers are bad drivers and the other is it is fraud. So I said are you implying I am a lier or a bad driver and he refused to answer. I then said I am neither of the two and that I resented the implication to both. I told him my car is a death mobile and unsafe to drive, and also that I had been hurt 3 or 4 times already.
