Warning symbols (ABS, vsc, orange exclamation sign, brake) showed up on the dash and the brakes began to vibrate and make a crunching noise. Took it to the Toyota dealership and they said it was the brake actuator which is a $2,500+ repair. They mentioned that the brakes were in danger of failing and the car would be unsafe to drive.

My ABS brake warning light came on two days ago along with another brake light. It happened while I was driving so it was scary. I took it to the dealership and they showed two codes - C1256 and C1391. These were part of a brake actuator assembly Toyota technical service bulletin which expired on 12/31/2017. Since mine went out after the expiration, I am stuck with a $2,500 repair. I spoke with Toyota corporate which had no compassion and said "good luck". I explained that this was clearly a major safety issue which could lead to my brakes not working at all or locking. Since this is an admitted Toyota fault, I thought there would be some sort of help. I was wrong. It is scary to think how many people will now be at risk of hurting themselves and others because of this problem. There are many people affected who won't be able to pay for such a high cost repair so they will just drive the car with the defect and hope for the best. A massive safety concern.

Brake actuator problem on my 2005 Prius. I have this vehicle I have been driving for since October and has always made this noise from the front like a pump running. The car itself did not have an issue until recently the ABS light and brakes started acting up. I have found out that Toyota had a warranty enhancement that expired in December this year. I had called a local dealer when I purchased the vehicle to see if there was any kind of recalls and they said none for this vehicle. This part is a known part that fails and when it does it could end up making the car like a run away train with no brakes depending on your speed. I tried contacting Toyota today but got pretty much no where they are saying that I need to bring it to them and pay them 3,000 dollars. The repair is not possible to be made by anyone else without a special scan tool the cars brakes will sometimes go away completely and the pedal becomes stiff and the vehicle will not brake. If there is any other info needed please let me know.

As the hybrid battery for my 2005 Toyota Prius began to fail, I noticed a degradation in my braking ability. My brakes would slip out on me unless the gas engine was running' in driving that relied on the battery, I essentially had non working brakes. When I had the hybrid battery replaced, a multi-point inspection revealed my front brake linings at 8.9mm and my rear drum linings at 3mm (which is still in excellent range). This was clearly not a case of worn out brake pads; and replacing the hybrid battery restored my braking function when running on battery power.

Multiple brake warning lights came on. Brought to Toyota dealership. Ran diagnostic and "internal problem in brake actuator" came back (code C1344) but is not covered in actuator extended warrenty. The dealership stated doesn't meet covered codes. This is a safety issue, clearly there are more codes that should be included in the new extended warrenty for safety. The brace actuator is a major issus and dangerous

Brake actuator assembly failure this system failed and had to be replaced by owner of Prius. Owner was driving car and the brakes stopped working almost causing a crash. Toyota recently (2016) offered warranty coverage for repairs in 2005. But having to take them to small claims because was denied on a technicality.

Digital dashboard sometimes is completely blank for extended periods so that I can't see my speed, fuel levels, odometer, and other info. The vehicle brakes failed to apply completely during morning start up and back up from parking space. The dash warning lights on included brake, triangle with exclamation, and ABS. During drive to dealer, pedal went to the floor. Toyota dealer found brake actuator assembly failure. Paid for repair and contacted Toyota with concern. Found internet information on similar failure with later 2010 model.

Even minor trepidation caused by any unevenness in the surface of the road while slowing down and applying the brakes will disengage the brakes momentarily causing a dangerous situation and risk of crash into vehicle in front. I observed this problem consistently in several Prius ranging from 2005 to 2010 since I purchased mine in April 2012. I have complained about this to a couple of dealerships but was told "it is a driver's fault"...!! all my friends owners of Prius have observed the same problem in their cars.

High pitched, steady tone comes on after several minutes of driving at start of driving day and does not stop unless/until brakes are depressed fully for at least 10sec., which causes tone to stop. The brake booster pump assembly is making a sound every time the car is operational. There is a structural deflect in the brake booster pump assembly causing gas to leaked into the brake fluid which can cause loss of braking. The 2005 Toyota Prius should be recalled to fix this brake booster pump. Based on research subsequent Prius models (e.g. 2010) have the same problem and were recalled. Therefore, this is a urgent request to please recall all 2005 Prius and any other applicable years. When I am going slow and braking, the car lunges forward when there is uneven pavement, a pothole, etc. Often it will happen at the same stop signs around my home. This has happened since I purchased this used car in July of 2014. It has happened more than 50 times in the year and half that I have owned it.
