Problem with headlights going off started several months ago, but now it's a daily occurrence and happens in the dark! today it happened twice. So far I've been able to turn them off and on again and they work, but pretty scary when on an expressway. Really surprised Toyota doesn't take care of this as it's definitely a safety issue and they've known about it early on. Death or injury is sure to occur. I will definitely be contacting Toyota on Monday knowing so many others have this issue, too!

My headlights have been turning off randomly either separately or together. As time goes on they are getting worse and worse to the point of where they won't stay on for more than 2 to 3 minutes until I have to manually switch them off and on again. I have been pulled over countless times for this and it's almost getting to the point of dangerous because I can't even tell when they go out. If someone didn't see me they would hit me head on. I don't feel safe driving my own car at night out of fear of getting pulled over or getting hit because my headlights will not stay on at all. I've had enough of this and hope there's something that can be done because they've already been replaced and nothing has changed. Something needs to happen because I know I'm not the only one with this problem. I've heard of countless reports of this happening. This happens randomly without warning or reason. They will flicker at any time any place no matter what. I can not keep them on for anything. Please I'm begging for any kind of assistance for this matter. The passenger side headlight goes out intermittently. Turning off the lights and then back on will turn the light back on, sometimes. Dealer's repair shop stated hid lightbulb was bad and replaced it. It did not fix the problem. Based on other postings, this is a fairly common issue.

This vehicle has an issue with its headlamps. While driving down a major street in the dark, the passenger headlamp flickered between 1-3 seconds before shutting off completely. We tried turning the headlamps off and back on again, but this did not seem to work. This is obviously unsafe especially when it happens on the rural roads closers to home. We have taken the car to different Toyota dealers in which none can find a solution. We've replaced the costly bulbs in both lamps (because we noticed they were both affected) and got the same result on the same day of the replacement. Since then the car was involved in an accident at night when a driver did claimed to not have seen the Prius and that the lights were off. Four years later the lights still go out and don't seem to stay on longer than 2 minutes. This car was purchased to Transport our children, as our other vehicle is a pickup truck and not as spacious or fuel efficient. However, we work in the morning, when it's still dark and just don't want to risk it. We also have been cited by police because the one or the other lights goes out in the dark or those random rainy days. Truthfully, we only want to be able to safely drive the car we paid for, but don't get to use other than on very specific occasion like daylight savings or off days prior to rain or sunset. If we didn't have another vehicle, we would be swamped with fines.

I bought this 2007 Toyota Prius used and was not informed by the seller that there was a problem with the hid headlamps. While driving, the right headlamp will periodically flicker and/or cut out. Turning off then on the headlights resets it to be on. After researching the problme online, I discovered that this is a known issue with Toyota and that there was a class action lawsuit. Replacing the bulbs for this model are very expensive and this problem should not be occurring. I would like to know how to get this problem resolved. Thank you!

Front driver side headlight keeps turning off intermittently and at random while driving. The car has been in to the Toyota service department several times but the problem can not be isolated. Several on-line forums suggest this is a manufacturer defect with the hid or electrical connection and have been charged thousands of dollars replacing bulbs, light housings, and connectors without fixing the issue. Had all work redone with new Toyota parts on 11/29 and they are not working again on 12/1. apparently this is a known defect with this model and Toyota extended the warranty but that is long since past. The headlights are prone to turning to off randomly, sometimes one side, other times both sides. After turning them on/off at the steering column they will come back on for a while then the issue starts over. This problem occurs with the vehicle either moving or in the stationary mode. No headlights when driving at night is a definite safety hazard. So far, Toyota refuses to fix. The lights will go out one at a time if the drivers side light goes out both lights have gone out. I got a warning ticket for headlight out by officer when I turned them off and back on they came on. Next day went to inspection station and the lights passed. Have inspection report and warning ticket. Date of incident 11/27/2017. Replaced bulbs several times. Very dangerous to have both lights go out driving 70 mph.

The headlights might go off when I have them on. Sometimes on the drivers side sometimes on the passenger side. If I turn the headlights on and off they will come back on. Sometimes this happens a couple of times in a 1/2 trip sometimes it does not happen at all. A loose connection does not seem to be the problem because I can go over bumps and the lights don't flicker or go off. There is no rhyme or reason, I will just be driving and a headlight will go off and will come back on if I turn the headlight switch off the back to on.

The headlights frequently shut off for no apparent reason, either one or the other or both. It seems to occur at random, whether idling or while in motion. The headlights will turn back on if the lights are shut off and turned back on, however it can be dangerous when the lights can both shut off while driving on a dark road and the constant turning off and on of the headlights while driving is distracting and potentially dangerous to other drivers.
