Burning 1.5-2 quarts of engine oil per week, this has been an ongoing issue for at least 2 years. Oil consumption test was done on the vehicle and it failed. The dealership has failed to fixed the issue.

Oil burning recall. My car Rav4 burns oil at least one quart per 1200 miles. The dealership refused to replace any part due to the 1200 miles test driving. Toyota sent me an enhancement warranty notice about the problem of oil burning. This is unacceptable to me. We paid so much yet what we get is a defect engine in a new Rav4. This should be a recall and Toyota is responsible to fix the rings and other parts that are required to replace in order to stop the problem.

2007 Rav4 uses an excessive amount of oil. I recently purchased this vehicle used with approximately 146,000 miles. The vehicle has been driven approximately 4,000 and I have had to add 2 quarts of oil to the engine. While driving the car suddenly loses all electricity, all the lights, every light indicator, the radio are off. The engine stops running and the car stops immediately. This normally happens while driving on city streets but also happened once when the car was parked and the key was out. After I entered and turned the key the car wouldn't start and there was no electricity in the car. No lights, no indicators, etc were on. Took it to the mechanic to take a look but he couldn't find anything. Also took it to Toyota dealership and the technician inspected it and ran a diagnostics test but couldn't find the problem either.

Hello, my wife owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4 with 108,000 miles on it. It received an oil change at 103K miles, and I just brought it in to the dealership for a suspicious (and loud) top end noise, and the engine appeared to be empty of oil when the dealership checked it. There were no warnings, other than the check engine light coming on at precisely the right time to indicate the next oil change. Also no puddles of oil in the driveway. This appears to make me (at least potentially) an interested party in the Toyota oil consumption defect class action lawsuit, April lax, et al. V. Toyota motor corporation, et al., case no. 14-cv-01490, in the U.S. district court for the northern district of California. Please let me know if you can recommend a course of action for me at this time.

My vehicle has been burning excessive amounts of oil. It has been checked and there has been a repair @ a Toyota dealer I also was told there is a recall on the engine but I need to get a gasket fixed again. I was told there needs to be a test done of how much oil was burning which I think is a bunch of crap because they know a problem does exists and Toyota neglects to fix it. In the past few years I have been getting oil added at least once a month and my vehicle also shakes very badly while waiting at lights of just sitting still. Also, a few years ago my door caught on fire and I was accused of doing it which I tried to tell the staff at Toyota of braintree where I purchased the vehicle that I would not burn up my car but they kept insisting I did horrible things to make the door catch fire, like pouring water in the door riding with the window down in pouring rain putting lit matches in it. That was horrible I had to pay out of pocket over $600 then fight to get my money back after 2 years. When I confronted the dealership, they told me to come in and they would accommodate me; they wanted me to give back my vehicle get another one and have a payment, which I didn't do because that is not right to sell a defective product. My vehicle was paid off in 2 years and this is the service I get from Toyota" another payment" no! then the drive shaft/seal needed replacing, and then the window fell out $300 + which was another out of pocket cost. Now, I am totally disgusted with this vehicle after all of these problems and I brought it new. In light of that, I have decided that I will now go to the media to see if there is any help I can get because this is not fair that Toyota does not stand up to its products again, this is a problem that needs to be fixed at no cost to myself asap because I have put too much money in a vehicle that should not have these problems

7/24/2015 traveling from Wisconsin to Florida in 2007 Rav4. Driving on freeway when engine lost power. Unable to restart engine on the side of the freeway exit ramp. Had car towed back home. Later that week had car towed to mechanic. Mechanic discovered catastrophic damage to engine. The engine had seized. The metal on the pistons melted and other engine parts where scorched. Replaced engine with a rebuilt. Only had 136,000 miles on Rav4. The Rav4 had regular oil changes and routine maintenance. Now I am seeing on the NHTSA website that Toyota knew about engines problems. I did not receive notice of this issue and I am out the cost of a rebuilt engine and the cost of a rental car while the engine was replaced. Is this same thing going to happen to my rebuilt engine? Toyota had me submit documentation of what mechanic found and did told me that they would review documents and that I was eligible for reimbursement under the csp ZE7 program. On Oct 19 written notice received, states reimbursement for replacing the engine denied. Received notice from Toyota regarding warranty enhancement ZE7 after engine failed that rav 4 had an excessive oil consumption problem. Attached are pictures of melted engine parts of an engine that had regular oil changes.

I purchased a used 2007 Toyota Rav4 in late February 2015. According to my trusted and loyal car repairman, the car is a lemon. In the short time I have owned it, I have accrued well over $6000 in repairs which did not refurbish the vehicle and now the vehicle is not driveable as the engine malfunctioned. The dealership where I purchased it is refusing to help me since I purchased the vehicle without a warranty. It is my understanding that Illinois does not have lemon laws for consumers of used vehicles, however, the federal government may have lemon law protection for me. I am now seeking free legal consultation to successfully resolve this matter to recoup the purchase price, all subsequent repairs, legal fees, and damages for being stranded on the highway during a long distance vacation miles from home. The car had no warning lights come on whatsoever. Had the car died any sooner, we would not have made it to the shoulder risking a high-speed multiple car accident pileup on the highway.

Certain cars from Toyota have a know excessive oil consumption problem. My car is one of them. My car, while older, has less than 56K miles on it. Last year, the mileage dropped precipitously-- by 10 mpg, in fact. Since then, my low oil light indicator came on in less than 3,000 miles. Toyota won't fix the problem. They have redefined what it means to burn excessive amounts of oil-- 1 quart every 1200 miles isn't a problem according to them. Thousands of Toyota owners now find themselves with cars that burn oil, have reduced mpg, and no recourse with Toyota. My car has been to the dealer 5 times since last year-- all because of the oil issue. This car is not what I bought. I bought a car that was economical, environmentally friendly, and got good mileage. Toyota should not be able to redefine what acceptable oil consumption is! I now find myself in the unfortunate situation of having to carry a quart of oil with me everywhere I go because I do not know when my car will run out of oil. Of course, I'm now stopping every 190 miles or so to put gas in the car because of bad mileage (used to be around 350 miles). Why is ntsa letting this go?

This is an ongoing issue of excessive oil consumption. It has been an issue since my vehicle was purchase new. I noticed that I had to get my oil changed every 3000 miles and could not make it to 5000 miles as recommended by my mechanic for oil changes. This has gotten worse as my car has aged. I now run out of oil (oil indicator light comes on and not a drop on the dipstick) every 1200-1300 miles. I have to carry quarts of oil in my car all the time to be sure I don't get stuck with a seized engine and I need to top off my oil at least twice in between 3000 mile oil changes. I have spoken with other rav owners as well as my oil change establishment and I understand this is a common and known issue for ravs. Toyota needs to address this.

The car failed to start, the battery was extremely hot and had not water in it. Changed the battery, the car started properly; however, once set to drive it hesitated a bit, as if it were chocking for lack of gas but it had gas. Drove on and at about speed of 40 mph steering became hard to handle, ac and engine cut off. Restarted it drove back home... just made the last payment on the car, car was regularly serviced at the dealer.

I have been having regular oil changes at my local aaa shop as scheduled for my 2007 Toyota Rav4. When my maintenance light came on I took it in to aaa within the next few days. I was told it had only been 3000 miles since my last oil change, but that there was only 1 qt. Of oil left in the car. There were no leaks detected and they said the car was not smoking to indicate it was burning oil. Two mos. Later I took the car to my Toyota dealership for an inspection sticker. I told them the car was running rough and to check it out. They replaced spark plugs and valve cover gasket. Shortly thereafter I received notice from Toyota about excessive oil use for my model. I took it in for the excessive oil consumption test. During the 1000 mi test it burned another quart and a half of oil. They disregarded my complaint about burning all but 1 qt. Within 3000 mi. And said the consumption was normal. Car continues to run rough.

My 2007 Toyota rav 4 is experiencing excessive oil usage which Toyota knows is a problem with vehicles that has a 2az engine. It is believed that if the engine siezes due to this excessive oil usage for a vehicle that is in motion, the brakes and steering failure could cause loss of control and result in a crash. As such, I believe Toyota should be forced to issue a safety recall to correct this issue immediately.

My car has had every oil change and check up as prescribed. I was about 500 miles away from next required oil change. I noticed when I stepped on brake the oil light came on. Pulled into gas station and was told there was no oil in the car. They added 3 quarts of oil. I called Toyota and brought car in. They added 4/5 quarts of oil, and tapped up everything including dip stick so I could not check the oil. Told me I had to drive 1,100 to 1,300 miles and then come back. I was quite upset, because I was unable to know if oil was leaking again, since they taped the dip stick. Called corporate was told to take tape off dip stick. Have not driven the 1,100 miles but oil is a little below the 2 dots. I called Toyota, told them I had to be in raleigh for work and asked them to just fix the problem. They said I had 2 choices, delay my employment until I hit the 1,100 miles for a re check or leave for raleigh and if oil light comes on have car towed to Toyota. Really, I am 62 and traveling with 2 birds in the heat of the summer. They told me if I get to 1,100 miles and oil is low it does not mean they will fix the problem. They will add more oil so I can get to raleigh and they will call Toyota to see if they will be responsible for repairs. Really? I have to leave for raleigh the 19th of may thanks
