The ABS for the passenger front tire kicks in while driving. You can feel the ABS pump the brake & the vehicle pulls to the right for a few seconds. Then the vsc & traction control lights come on. Twice I've had it diagnosed as a faulty yaw control sensor. It seems to happen more often while towing a trailer. This normally happens while on the highway at a steady speed.

"takata recall", a month ago the vsc/trac light came up. After opening and closing the gas cap, it went away. Then came the grinding sound at the passenger side of the vehicle when slowing down to make a turn and also, a flapping sound (like a flat tire) when moving on the highway.

No matter what speed, the vsc alarm goes off, the car brakes violently and pulls to the right, and makes a horrible grinding sound. Then the vsc light stays on until the car is turned off and reset. Under warranty, I went to gilroytoyota in 2014 to get this fixed. They told me it was the yaw rate sensor, however that isn't covered in the warranty. It would cost around $800-$1000 to replace. They did replace the brake booster assembly, and that worked for about 6 months until the vsc light came back on and the car pulled and braked again. Very very dangerous when driving on the freeway when this happens, and the alarm goes off and the car brakes and pulls, could result in accident. Makes a horrible grinding noise as well that I can feel in the brake pedal when this happens. The car is always in motion when this happens, always on asphalt, not on dirt or in 4 wheel drive. (I don't use the 4 wheel drive) happens at any speed, either turning or going straight.

Driving at 25 mph vehicle front end started vibrating violently. Thought transmission or cvs joints had disintegrated. Vsc lights lit up pulled over.found nothing wrong" has done numerous times during last year. Started in July 2015 intermittently and currently happens daily. At 65 mph' SUV front end slipped'. also pulls to right. Scary what if on road curving left. People could possibly go off road and be killed and list it as 'driver fell asleep'. read on Toyota forum website, 2003 were recalled. Why not 2002????" people have taken 2002 Sequoia to dealer and delear changed out sensor and computer chip and owners still experienced problem.

Vse/trac light and trac off light comes on, beeping sound. Traveling at 70 mph or 65 mph vehicle veers left and steering becomes difficult. Just this happened three times within 24 hours on interstate driving. This is the same problem discussed in a recall of the 2003 through 2005 models. Many problems of the same nature are reported on internet forums for the 2000 T-model. This is very dangerous. It happens when the road conditions are dry and no hazardous conditions.

While driving on the freeway at 70 mph the stability like blinks and beeps then the vsc trac/vsc off light come on. There is no control of brakes or gas. Feel grinding in front of car. After managing to stop everything reset. Has happened several times with no warning or reason as to why. Have appointment with dealership to have fixed. But seems this is a common problem and very unsafe as to no warning and no control of the car when it does happen at any speed. The same problem in the 2003 model has been recalled. Is it going to take an accident or death before this is investigated?

Normally happens at low speed while accelerating. The skidding car symbol flashes, a warning beeper beeps several times, there is a noticeable swerve to the right accompanied by a grinding noise. The, trac off and the vsc off, lights come on and I am able to continue merrily on my way unannoyed, there is no apparent reduction in braking ability or steering control. I just have the "idiot" lights on the dash until I turn off the ignition. When I next drive the vehicle I am very wary until it happens again, maybe immediately, or 10 to 20 miles. But it always happens. The dealer says a new yaw rate sensor and vsc ECU will fix it. About $1800 above the $105 already paid for the diagnostic fee. What really gets my "goat" is: There is a recall for the "early" 2003 models for this same problem.

I have a problem with my trac and vsc light coming on while driving. The stability light would blink and beep and both the trac off and vsc light would come on. The brakes would also seem like it's grinding when the stability light is blinking and beeping. I have the exact same problem as this guy on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?V=L6qsguptdsq

The vsc/ABS indicator lights appear intermittently without any warning. The car beeps, makes a heavy grinding noise and the ABS brakes are automatically engaged without any action by the driver regardless of the speed, or whether driving on a highway or city street. The car will fishtail. Based on my research, I have found that this is a common problem among these vehicles and that there was a 2003 recall for this problem. This defect in the same model for the 2002 vehicles seems to be widespread. Must we first have an accident to win rights to be accommodated. Does Toyota not want to make good on its product and satisfy all owners/customers. I worry every time I drive my vehicle and thank god each time I reach my destination without incident. This is the only vehicle we have to drive our severely disabled 10 year old daughter and cannot afford a new vehicle. We are really scared! see other identical consumer complaints at www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Sequoia/2002/brakes/electronic_stability_control-4.shtml

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate severely and decelerated rapidly. The vehicle stability, traction and skid control warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The contact was able to pull to the road side to switch off and restart the vehicle. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 10V176000(electronic stability control, traction control system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Identical problem as described by many others. Vsc-trac and trac-off lights randomly illuminated on dry, level pavement when brakes were applied, causing a loud grinding noise (much louder than normal application of anti-lock brakes), and car pulled and would not stop no matter how hard the brake pedal was pressed. First couple times, brakes were applied to slow the vehicle in traffic, so the failure to fully stop wasn't noticed. Then, I experienced an incident when the failure occurred coming to a stop sign. Even with the brake pedal fully depressed, the vehicle continued into the intersection. Had a car been coming in cross traffic, this would have resulted in an accident. After this incident, we took the car for service, and the yaw sensor had failed. The part was replaced at a cost of $800, and 3 months later, the vehicle is experiencing the vsc-trac and trac-off lights remaining illuminated after the self-check when the vehicle ignition is turned on. Restarting the car typically clears the lights. Repair shop has indicated that the the yaw sensor will not retain zero calibration. They set it, restart the vehicle, and it loses calibration. Error code is now indicating that the control module (part# 89541-0C050) has failed (another $1200+ repair on top of the yaw sensor, which was also defective). These failures clearly put vehicles at risk of accidents, and it is difficult to understand why the 2003 Sequoias were recalled for vsc issues, but not the 2002, when the parts being replaced fit both years. I am the original owner of this vehicle, and the issues began at 60,000 miles. The vehicle currently has only 62,000 miles.

The vsc off indicator light along with the vsc and skid light and buzzer activates. This causes the skid control to activate front brakes on one side with a grinding noise and the steering wheel to pull hard to one side. I'm concerned this may cause an accident !

This has happened about 10 times when the skid light will come on and the vehicle will go left to right and the brakes do not stop the vehicle. Then the vsc off & vsc trac off lights will come on. This has happened at speeds from 15 - 60 mph at times you loose control of the vehicle at the higher speeds for a few seconds. If this ever happens in heavy traffic it will cause an accident. Vehicle has been taken to a Toyota specialist mechanic and they are still replacing parts. I understand that Toyota recalled all 2003 Sequoia's for this problem. My wife now refuses to drive the vehicle until it is fixed properly.
