This appears to be exceptionally common. The vsc trac, vsc off and ABS and parking brake lights come on, the brakes are degraded and the front end vibrates as the brakes appear to be pulsing. This has happens spare-attic ally over the years. At first we thought it was the emergency brake and we had the tightened, since it seemed that there might be something loose and it was engaging as we drove. That wasn't it, obviously and it continues to occur. With such a heavy, large truck, we have nearly rear-ended others, but got lucky. Each time the car pulls to one side sharply and you have to stop and restart the car to get all the lights to turn off and come back to normal. I have had the brakes done and redone several times and this still occurs.. on each occasion we could get out of it, but its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Toyota has obviously ignored this..I have download the complaints and there are >500 on this very topic. As I read through all these, the similarity between them is beyond coincidence and it appears that nothing actually fixes this. As of right now.

At apparently random times the ((!)) light indicating a problem with the brakes will turn on. Sometimes without warning the brakes will lock up at low speeds for a split second locking up the wheels. A little research showed that the 2003 of the same make and model had a recall (10V176000) that describes my problem in detail. I think this recall should be extended to 2004 model. I post on a forum got a lot of action with people having the same issue. This is very dangerous and since I regularly tow 5000lbs I would hate for this to occur then. The replacement part is available only from Toyota and at a serious price tag.

I purchased the vehicle used in 2008 with approximately 40,000 miles on it. Shortly after I got it, the brake light came on for what seemed like no noticeable reason. I had it checked out by the dealer and they said nothing was wrong. Throughout the time I've had the vehicle, the brake light continues to come on periodically. I've had it checked out a few times and they always say nothing is wrong. About two weeks ago I was stopping for a red light and all of a sudden the brake pedal went to the floor. I brought it in and they said there was air in the line, which they fixed. After that time my brake light came on several times, but I thought it was just the false alarms that I had always gotten. Then last night (9/15/2014) I had the problem once again with the pedal went to the floor when I was trying to stop for a light and the vehicle wouldn't stop until I lifted my foot off the brake and put it back on. Now the dealer says there is a leak in the master cylinder. One of my fears from all these years of the brake light coming on for no real reason was that one day it would come on for a valid reason and I wouldn't know because of all the previous false alarm lights. As we all know brakes failing can cause injuries or deaths.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that another vehicle crashed into the front drivers side of the vehicle. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. Additionally the contact stated the brake warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was unknown.

I have brought this vehicle to dealer numerous time over the years that the brake warning light came on. Over the years they could not pull a code because the brake warning light was not on. Because it was sporadic I left it until it they came on and would not go off. They wanted to replace it after the warranty had expired and after I had been telling them that the light had been coming on. Toyota has know that this a problem for some 2000 - 2005 Toyota products.

The vsc, trac off and break light all came on while I was picking speed from the stopping at the light. Previous to that, my husband has brought the car in to inquire about the break light coming on and off and Toyota stated there was nothing wrong with the car. Initially, I was told I could drive the car without any difficulties and once my car /account was pulled/viewed in the system then I was told to bring the car in immediately - within 30 minutes. Now I am being told that flush brake system - all, booster assy, cylinder sub assy, master cylinder seal,2 gaskets which is now costing me over $2,000. I have seen many complaints and recall on this same problem. Please advise. Thank you.

Date and mileage above are approximate. While accelerating on an up inclined entrance ramp to the ben franklin bridge in philadelphia, the engine lost speed and the vehicle quickly slowed. No one was behind me so there was minimal danger. The behavior was similar to snow/ice skid control whereby the engine decouples and the accelerator pedal becomes useless. After about 5 seconds power returned. On 6/24/2014 (mileage 165,400) my brake light came on. I coincidentally had an 5,000 mile service appointment today (6/24/2014) and the diagnosis was a code C1247 - ABS ECU (computer) is failing. The mechanic explained that the ECU had failing circuits, or failing solder connections. A little internet research suggested that the unit might simply have logic problems. The mechanic advised that when the brake light is on, all skid control and ABS functionality is gone. As the light was on for a short period of time, and is now off I am going to see how the vehicle performs and if safety is effected.

Alarm sounded and road slippage light began flashing on dash board. Car slowed down on its own with grinding sound under the hood. Brakes made the sound much louder and braking was ineffective. Afterward trac off and trac - lights came on. Happened three times before I could get back home - about 2 miles. After shutting car off problem disappeared and did not reoccur in brief test drive. Condition would be dangerous in traffic as brakes were ineffective.

I am bringing it into to the dealer (with copies of all these complaints) and see what comes of it. My hopes are not high. The recall in 2003 seems like they tried to address this (not clear if it was same issue). My concern really is that someone has to get killed. The issue with that logic is that dead people don't fill out complaints and if there was a death, it appears that the error/diagnostic codes do not register and get saved for retrieval (from reading all these complaints). Serious crashes would be investigated, codes would be looked at and nothing would come up. Case closed. What would happen, Toyota, if all accidents got re-investigated" how much would that cost" ask the GM CEO how much their investigation is costing.

While driving and gradually pressing the brake pedal, my 2004 Sequoia suddenly and abruptly stops while being driven on city streets or freeway at speeds between 35 to 55 mph. Immediately following the abrupt and unexpectedly stop, the brakes appear to remained engaged (vehicle is stopped) momentarily (for a few seconds); although, the brake pedal is no longer depressed. In order to get the SUV moving forward again, one must press the gas pedal (more than usual), because the vehicle seems to hesitate or be stuck/stopped. Because of the unusually high gas pedal requirement, the vehicle suddenly/dangerously lunges forward. This hole unexpected, abrupt stopping and abrupt rapid forward process is quite unsettling and scary. We're the original owners of this 2004 Sequoia and the vehicle has always been maintained and inspected 2 to 4 times per year by Toyota dealers in orange county, calif. Based on the commonality and high incidence of this anomaly on these vehicles, Toyota should voluntarily or mandatorily take swift corrective action.

While decelerating towards an intersection that I had to stop at vsc dash indicator light, brake light, & trac light all came on. Then, as I pressed the brake pedal I heard deep crunching noises from the braking system (sounded like front end). There was also loud "clanking" noises, as if something was banging around the inside of the rim or brake rotor. All the noises were also physically felt on my braking foot at the same time they sounded. My foot was being dropped and pushed noticeably by the brake pedal. I almost rear-ended the car in front of me because the braking power from fluctuating independently from strong to almost none within a matter of a few seconds. The same dash warning lights have been continuing to turn on for the last 5 or 6 weeks (sometimes all of them, sometimes one at a time), but the physical braking issue happened to me again today 9-11-13. I was on a back street so I tried to video it with my phone but couldn't get the camera set to video in time; and it stopped after occurring at three different braking attempts. The car fluctuated its way to a stop with the same crunching noises (no clanking) this time. The pressure fully changed on the brake pedal as the issue took place and I had little control of exactly when braking would happen. Have you seen the amount of times this is happening" are you reading these threads" I'm concerned to take my kids in the car. I'm concerned in letting my less experienced 18 year old drive it as usual. I went to the dealer and they were clueless and said that was part if the way the car kept me safe on wet roads. Neither incident occur on wet roads. I've been driving for 25 years; I did not have control of the braking in my vehicle two times in last 6 weeks due to a vehicle system going haywire! driving this vehicle is a hazard! please do something before someone gets hurt or killed because of this!

Driving to a stop when vsc lights, ABS, check engine light, trac off dashboard indicator lights turned on. When brakes were applied, experienced a jumping. Already had brakes replaced, tires rotated and alignment done. Contacted auto service technician and was told after a diagnostic was performed that issue is due to a faulty computer system with the ABS system how the computer reads the car performance. Was told that only a Toyota dealer would have to replace the entire computer system which is costly. The warning lights go on and off randomly as if the computer system is malfunctioning.

Vsc trac, vsc off, ABS lights have been coming on and off since I purchased the vehicle new in 2004. Dealer could not find any problems over the years. Last week lights came on and stayed on full time. ABS system severely shook when brakes were depressed. Dealership replaced master cylinder and brake booster system. Cost was $1,200. Warning lights still were present, and they were reluctant to let me leave the dealership with the problem still present. They decided that the booster was an "after-market" product and not properly communicating with the computer. Dealership wants another $600 to swap the brake booster, but still no assurances that the warning lights will not come back on. This has been problematic since the day I purchased the vehicle. It appears that this is not an isolated issue with the Sequoias and Tundra.

My brake light continue to come on and will remain on until I turn off the SUV. I have taken it back to the deal which I bought it from and they supposed to have reset it, however, it came back on a week later I took it back and they kept it all day to fix it. They could not tell me what was causing the light to come on after keeping the vehicle all day. I took it to an independent dealer cosby body shop and he checked the SUV but could not see what was wrong since the light was not on. The brakes did not show enought sinificant ware or tare and there was brake fluid in the brake fluid clyder he did not need to add any. I was told to bring it back when it comes on again and I did. He checked and discovered that it maybe the brake sincer. Now, I am calling toyato for assistance to see if there has been a recall on this vehicle.

I have a 2004 Sequoia and I have had problems with the vsc, trac, ABS, and brake lights randomly coming on for the last 3 years. I only have 105,000 miles. The brake light comes on and off regularly (mostly on more than off). However with the other lights it is very random. Upon braking, I will experience a loud grinding sound, the car jerks/whiplash motion, the car is hard to stop and manage and then all the lights come on after this occurs. It all happens within 3-5 seconds total but the lights stay on until the car is turned off. It may do it 2-3 more times or might not do it again for a week or even as long as a month. I simply was coasting from a fast food speaker to the window to pay and I experienced it and it almost pushed me into the car in front of me. It has done it when breaking coming up to a red or yellow light. I let off the brake when it does it and press again and it may do it 2-3 times until I come to a complete stop or might not do it again once I release the brake the first time. It is difficult to detect because it occurs at different times, different places, different braking speeds and might not do it again for a while. For 3 years I have put up with this. I go to the dealer and nothing can be proven unless lights on at that time. When I went to the first place I could get to before they went off they hooked it up to a machine and 6 possible problems came up. I have read this is a common problem for 2003-2004 models and you fix one thing and thats not the issue. I have been told it is a computer/brake communication flaw. I do not understand with the complaints of the same problem from individuals even on the national transportation board page that this is not considered a recall. We have to spend thousands of dollars to guess when it is clearly a computer or maintenance issue and definitely a safety hazard. Some lose vehicle power with it.

After making a left turn the vsc trac, slip indicator skid, and malfunction indicator lamp lights came on and have remained on. Today the brake warning light has come on and remained on. Concerned with the large number of complaints from other 2004 owners and Toyota lack of interest to resolve the problem in timely and fair manner. It appears this problem has been known for many years, changing owners many expensive repair bills and vehicles remain unfixed. Toyota owners relying on Toyota to provide a quality product and stand behind the that product when a problem like this occurs.
