The vsc warning light and sometimes brake warning light will come one in 2004 Toyota Sequoia. There appears to be nothing wrong with the vehicle but it looses power when this happens and hesitates when you are making a turn. Toyota has come out with a recall for Sequoia 2003 and have a technical bulletin discussing 2003 - 2005, however Toyota refuses to do anything since my vehicle is not included in the current recall.

My 2004 Sequoia fails to accelerate from a start when entering a turn at the same time, the traction control lights flash on the dashboard. It typically does this while turning, making a left or right hand turn from a stopped position. My car is due an oil change and I am planning on taking it to the dealer this weekend and I intend to tell them of this issue. I see Toyota has a recall for 2003 models. The point is, my 2004 does the exact same thing as what is described in the 2003 recall notice. On average, it does this every other day and started 3 weeks ago.

I have a 2004 Toyota Sequoia, the vsc off, vsc on, brake light goes on time after time. The brakes sometimes feel like they will not work. There are so many complaints on this issue, hopefully Toyota will do something about this. This problem can cause life injuries and even death. I have stayed dedicated to Toyota and hoping for there honest mistake.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia which was purchased brand new. While driving at speeds of 60 mph there was a popping noise in the vehicle. The vehicle then made an unintended 80 degree left turn in a swift jerking motion and proceeded to hit a cement pipe in a ditch. The driver's side front tire was knocked off the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were knocked unconscious at the time. The passenger and driver awoke and the crash was still occurring. The vehicle continued to pick up speeds; however the contact did not notice the exact speeds. The vehicle was on three wheels and continued to proceed. The passenger was knocked unconscious a second time. The passenger awoke to someone flashing light into the vehicle. The contact sustained a broken tibia, seven broken ribs, fractured sternum and a fractured vertebrae. The driver sustained a concussion, bruised face and a small left hand fracture. Both were taken to a nearby hospital. A police report was filed at the scene of the crash. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileages were 84,199.

Vehicle loses control of acceleration when turning and causes other vehicles to nearly crash into my vehicle. The vsc (vehicle skid control) system activates in error during normal driving on dry pavement due to faulty system (this is know problem with Toyota Sequoia). Secondary problem related to this, the vehicle skid control system does not disengage while in snow and it gets stuck.

Vsc/trac off lights illuminated on 2004 Toyota Sequoia. Problem occurred while driving in rainy conditions on I-10. Lights have remained illuminated despite 2 computer resets. According to multiple internet chat rooms, this is a common problem on the '03 and '04 Sequoia. The most common fixes have been to replace the traction control computer and/ or the steering angle sensor in the steering column.

Just bought a 2004 Toyota Sequoia and the vsc skid control computer has to be replaced. Its $1500 to replace. Apparently this is not covered by the powertrain and this is a safety issue.

*******2004 Toyota Sequoia ltd vsc computer failure, wheel lockup on left********* brake light, vsc and trac light all came on. I was driving approx. 20 mph and the left front wheel locked up and the car pulled sharply to the left. The brake pedal went to the floor and I lost brake pedal effectiveness. I turned the car off and restarted it and all lights went out and brake feel and effectiveness appears ok. I took the car straight to the dealer for inspection. For the last 2 years the brake light would come on and stay on and when I turned off the car and restarted it the light would go off. For 2 years my local dealer in butler, pa could not get a failure code. When I took the car for diagnostics, the cause was the ECM part number 89541-OC062 at a cost of about $1377. They replaced it at the great dealership in langhorne, pa. I have 55,659 miles on this vehicle. Since the repair the brake warning light has come on one time and stayed on, when we restarted the car it went away. I will return to dealer to have this checked again next time it comes on. It seems to me that this lockup of the wheel and loss of braking effectiveness is a real big safety issue on these vehicles. Please get back to me to tell me if NHTSA is looking into this situation. Thank you!

Brake light, vsc and trac light all came on. Initially the brake light would come on and I was turn off the car and restart it and the light would go off and occasionally the vsc light would come on but lastly all came on with a weird sound as if the anti lock brake was activated when I was going to a stop at an intersection with a stop sign. The brake pedal felt as if I lost pressure and the car did not stop. When I took the car for diagnostics, the cause was the ECM part number 89541-0C062 at a cost of about $1800. I have just ran out of warranty several month back and I only have 38970 miles on the vehicle.

My complaint is basically identical to one already on file for another Sequoia 2004. When slowing down to make a turn, our vehicle has on a number of occasions lost power. There is a second or two where the accelerator fails to provide any response and then it recovers. Once when I was making a turn in front of oncoming traffic I thought I thought I would be hit before the vehicle recovered. I have asked the service people about this twice but they say they cannot do anything if they can't duplicate. However, one service man said he had heard of similar complaints from other customers. They mention something about a "firewire" that affects the throttle but with no remedy in sight. It seems to me that it's just a matter of time before this results in an accident for someone.
