The vehicle light that indicates skidding turns on and the car brakes suddenly, it occurs when I am on the freeway and my brake lights don't turn on....the car assumes that I am skidding but the road and tires are fine.

Several times now when trying to turn and accelerate into traffic the traction control light comes on and I'm not able to accelerate for a few seconds (no power). The tires are in good shape and the condition is dry. This is scary and dangerous at the same time.

Sequoia 8-cyl

  • 130,000 miles
When making left or right turns at slow speed, traction control light blinks, sometimes with beep alarm and sometimes engages the ABS system. Very dangerous when pulling out into traffic to not be able to accelerate since you lose control of driving the vehicle for about 3-5 seconds.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds over an uneven road surface, the vsc light illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

ABS, trac, vsc and brake and check engine lights all signaled fault codes. Codes are #1251 and #1223, again, this after computer module was replaced at full cost to the consumer $1,059. The same fault has re-occurred in less than 6 (six) months of having replaced the ABS, trac, vsc computer module.

Sequoia

  • 60,000 miles
Brakes fail on occasion and vsc light, trac off light and brake light come on. Hard to stop vehicle. Turning car off and back on again seem to temporarily solve the problem. Seems as if this is a common ongoing issue with the 2006 Sequoia based on previous posts. Taken to dealer on three different occasions and they were unable to identify problem. Today 5/23 dealer stated its a vacuum and repair part is approx. $1000. Please investigate this complaint because of the seriousness of the loss of stopping power with such a large vehicle before someone gets hurt. At least twelve complaints of similar problems have been filed.

  • 51,989 miles
After putting gas in the vehicle, I pulled away from the gas station and when I came to a stop sign before entering the main thoroughfare the brake pedal was so hard to depress that I almost had to stand on it to get the vehicle to stop, and nearly was unable to before plowing into oncoming traffic I also noticed that the "trac off", "vsc trac", and brake malfunction indicator were all illuminated. It was a real panic situation because it was totally unexpected and my wife and 2 young daughters were in the vehicle with me. I am an 20 year + ase master automotive technician with over 30 years experience. I stopped the vehicle and visually checked the brake system as well as I could on the side of the road and saw no obvious cause for the issue. The only way I could get the warning lights off and the brakes to work was to turn off and restart the ignition. After that, the vehicle went the rest of the day (140 miles) with no problem. I am now afraid to let my wife and kids drive this vehicle until I figure out what's wrong with it. I do see where there are a few similar complaints, and a couple that are pretty much identical to mine. This vehicle is in excellent condition with only 52,000+ miles on it. This is a serious safety concern and it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt of killed due to this issue. There should definitely be some kind of safety recall issued.

Almost every time I go over a bump or dip at 2-3 mph the traction control light comes up, the vehicle slows down and I am unable to accelerate for a few seconds, then all comes back to normal. It happens every day and a few times I nearly got in the accident due to unexpected slow down.

On two different occasions, while pulling into traffic from a stop, at less than 10 mph, the car lost power, the gas pedal was non-responsive, and the car seemed to brake for a few seconds resulting in my temporary loss of control of the vehicle. The vsc light on the dashboard flashed several times. After a few seconds, power to the vehicle returned.

We have four drivers in our family and have driven and owned 4X4 Wrangler, Explorer, Expedition, Subaru outback sport and 2 AWD Plymouth Voyager. We now also own and drive a 2006 Toyota Sequoia. The Sequoia is a danger to us and other drivers when there is snow or ice on the ground. We live in Michigan. With the 4 wheel drive on and with stability control, the back end still slides out easily without provocation. When it does the vsc takes over and leaves you out in traffic with no power. If you are going over 60mph you cannot turn on 4WD from 2wd. This requires slowing down in freeway traffic to activate 4WD. ABS does not come on if you are traveling at a slow speed like down a narrow icy driveway like we have. The Sequoia is a disaster waiting to happen. It obviously was not tested in real life winter conditions and needs to be fixed. Please help us.

2006 Toyota Sequoia limited 4 wheel drive. When I stop at intersections I receive a jolt in the drivetrain and a slight forward movement in the vehicle. The Toyota dealership has stated their is nothing wrong with the transmission and performed a driveshaft maintenance which has not alleviated the issue.

Our 2006 Sequoia experiences the same turning problem as announced in the 2003 Sequoia recall today. When making turns, the traction control light comes on and the vehicle hesitates a few seconds before accelerating. It is especially concerning because on left turns in front of other cars, you don't know that you will clear traffic. This has been happening over the last couple of months. I called Toyota and received case #[xxx]. I was told that they show no information on this model year having problems. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Sequoia

  • 91,000 miles
2006 Toyota Sequoia has experienced intermittent electrical problems since purchase. On 30 July 09 vehicle experienced multiple computer failure of ECU, vsc, and other computers. Toyota tech reps say vehicle could not have caused problem, therefore it must be an "external' fault. However, there is absolutely no evidence of any external arcing or other power surge indicative of an "external" event. Toyota refuses to admit potential of a latent defect and says incident must be referred for insurance. Toyota will not address logical questions as to why other (non-protected systems such as the radio) in the vehicle still function in light of the alleged "external event." Additionally, there were no circuit breaker or fuses blown, so again how is it possible for the "external event" theory to be valid" given the anecdotal evidence on the web concerning Sequoia ecus and vsc computers, what action can NHTSA take to have the manufacturer address the problems"
